'Fracking Is Bad, Actually': Ocasio-Cortez Interjects After Harris Falters Over Pence Attack on Green New Deal

I was hoping to see Kamala Harris connect with some good punches. I’d like to see evidence that she, at least, would just as soon win this election. I was pleased: I thought she came off as the balanced, calm grown-up in the room – hitting back to defend her dignity as necessary. Demeanor is vital, and she nailed that much. Given what she had to work with (having to twist herself into pretzels around GND & fracking), I thought Harris handled her task about as well as anyone possibly could. Whatever you think of her ultimate allegiance, the woman is clearly talented, imho.

Fortunately that fantasy is for most part only believed by ‘centrists’ now, who are right wing, nowhere near the actual center and represent around 13% of the population, the most fring political group in the US in other words. The movements that are now taking action to bring about vital change, whilst some individuals may be voting for Biden, as is their prerogative, are no longer mistaking magical thinking for reality and will bypass both of the state approved parties. It’s quaint, in a strange way, that so many (mainland) Americans still don’t understand that they live in an oligarchy and that general elections are largely theater, but these people now have only two real choices, whether to side with and enable the oligarchy, or to join in removing it from power. Anything else is just performative.

Whilst your sentiment is appreciated, voting for republicans who call themselves democrats is not a viable way forward. Amy McGrath, for example is pro Trump and is running on the basis that her opponent is not doing enough to help Trump.

Not only are the corporate and so called centrist Democrats not cutting it, as you aptly put it, they are now the enemies of the people just as much as other right wingers are and should be treated accordingly.

instead of coming out with a strong response on the advantages the Green New Deal would bring–a healthier planet-the millions of jobs-reduction of the environmental racism that places fossil fuel, related production, and the corporate waste in minority communities, the Democrats have doubled down on the environmental destruction of the corporations paying them money for their world destroying policies–like their refusal to call for M4A–they are showing us that they too --could care less if we live or die–that their only concern is their political power-that they are only just slightly better than the moron they want to replace and that they are pawns of the corporations bribing them as they take down life all around the globe

any damn fool can see the results of our political leaders failure to protect the essence-the foundation of our lives–that being a living planet on which we and every living thing depends on for our existence–this is the result of the failure to listen to the science for over 50 damn years proving the Democrats ARE NOT listening to science any more than the Republicans-are in fact climate deniers in the pay of the destroyers of our world-and just like the Republicans-support the financing of climate collapse done by corporations and their banks, subsidized(even though they are incredibly wealthy from their planetary destruction) by both political parties and promoted by the corporate media-FOR THE MONEY to be made on that destruction

it is this that makes this election such a tragedy and why I feel that as bad as Trump and company are–the Democrats are a major part of the problems facing our survival–NOT the ones who will lead us to environmental sanity–in this-- the refusal to support M4A in a pandemic(much less at any other time)–their war mongering(even bringing the architects of those wars to their convention stage–not to mention Republicans opposed to a women’s right to chose)- refusal to support LIVING wage(as opposed to the pathetic $15/hr that is about $5/hr-$6/hr short of a living wage insuring the continued hand to mouth existences of millions of our citizens)–the Democrats have shown they are simply the other side of an ugly coin in the pay of the corporations who are destroying the world around us

I will Not be voting for the Dems --again this year–a pox on any politician who supports this as they take money from the people doing us harm–if they take a single corporate dollar --they ARE NOT WORKING for us—as the 1/2 of our population that does not vote have long realized–if the Dems want my vote they need to come to the table with something more than --Trump is a racist clown and supporting the legalization of pot just does not make the cut-

and since one war mongering planet killing politician is like any the other planet killing war mongering politician— I will be voting–for the Greens–

blah blah blah been listening to that line for the last 40 years and the Dems just got more and more like the Republicans–time to wake up and smell the garbage inhabiting every level of our country’s political establishments–my memory is good enough to recognize this perennial line of BS from Nixon’s election and in almost every election since then–get real

I am not voting “for” anyone - But - I am voting against the psychotic malignant narcissist, and his dangerous theocratic Dominionist V.P. Biden and Harris are both equally DNC-corporatists. I am a progressive. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party is our only hope of a sane future.

As I have said before, and it bares repeating. The only way Joe Biden gets my vote will be if he promises green new deal and single payer.

To continue to vote for the same things over and over again and expect different results is worse than crazy, it’s delusional, and I won’t be a part of it.

While Justice Ginsburg was laying a corpse, the Democrat House passed pro carbon legislation under the guise it would make jobs. Noting the legislation was lobbied and championed by the outstanding pro green company ARCH Coal is all one needs to know. Frack the Neo-liberal Democrats. Biden will have all the congress votes needed for business as usual.

LLSOre-Wa attacks the central economic problem facing the country as high value jobs continue their flight out of our country. But that never came up during the debate and never will as long as the Corporate interests of the mass media coincide with our other Global Corporate Masters.

Still there were some good questions posed by the moderator in a debate that was easier to tolerate than the never ending Trump show. But, how many Americans noticed that Harris and came with their memorized talking points, which they prattled on about, while ignoring the moderators question ? Just one example, Pence never answered the question as to why the USA has had a far worse Covid-19 outcome than (socialized) Canada or almost any other Western industrialized nation. One could add China and South Korea to that list of better performing health care systems.

It wouldn’t hurt to point out to all listeners that Trump enjoys socialized medical care under the care of 20 doctors even as he screams that socialized medicine is an existential threat to the good life we enjoy. Trump is the most dangerous criminal liar on the face of the earth.

It became obvious as the debate went on that Biden’s means-tested, half measure policies, designed to appeal to “moderate” Republicans and his corporate sponsors, will not satisfy the country’s majority who overwhelmingly support the Green New Deal and Medicare for All. Even Kamala is likely more progressive.

Harris’ performance was overall lackluster, not even close to what a skilled attorney should have done to hammer Pence for his constant lying.
Fracking is one of many environmental crimes hastening anthropogenic mass extinction.
But at least Harris didn’t lie constantly like Pence.
One must be grateful for small victories, lol.

Yours is the most succinct and accurate reason why all true progressives will vote Biden/Harris: the GOP and Democratic parties are NOT the same–the Dems have at least 97 Congressional progressives, including a senator. The GOP has NONE!

In the 1770s our forefathers didn’t have the word “socialist” but they weren’t royalists. The European nobility laughed at the idea of “mob rule”, a self-evident joke to them.

I see two neo-royalists going after each other, fighting because one royalist is accusing the other one of not being royalist enough, so the other one says, “I am too!” In the finest royalist tradition, “And what is truth?” - Pontius Pilate.

I realize I’m an outlier, but allow me to assert that the GND is pretty much a recipe for continuing the capitalist dream of mass consumption. An excuse to continue driving from homes out in burbs, in battery-powered cars loaded with lithium we stole from Bolivia and cobalt we stole from Congo. An excuse to keep growing human populations and feed them from huge plots of industrial agriculture that were once habitat for wildlife. An excuse to centralize and expand corporate power on the same trajectory we’re on now.

In informal chats with fellow environmentalists, many agreed that the GND was conceived to glue a veneer of economic sensationalism onto the hope for an emissions-free future. But my fellow environmentalists understand that that future comes with its own price tags – and none of them are sustainable. Bill McKibben and AO-C tout the GND “job creation,” but they don’t talk about the consequences of all the added consumption those jobs will create. More computers, more cars, more appliances, more bullshit that no one needs delivered to their front porches.

Meanwhile, GND or no GND, we rush headlong to collapse. Because climate chaos is now baked in – we fiddled and now Rome is starting to burn. And flood. And blow away. And dry up. And after that collapse, an era emphasizing sustainability will arrive (or not,) forced upon the survivors who won’t have a choice.

Yes. Correct. The D Party has many, many good people in it. The rank and file of the D Party are a million times better — more intelligent, more compassionate, more opposed to oligarchy — than the rank and file of the R Party.

But here’s the rub: the LEADERSHIP of the D Party serves the same special interests (and is bribed by the same special interests) as the leadership of the R Party. Schumer, Pelosi, Biden, Tom Perez, Obama, Clinton et al might as well be Republicans, because they aid and enable the same regressive trends toward fascism

We’ve been hearing it, since 1963 (BUT, Goldwater! they told Black, MS. delegates) 1968 (BUT, Nixon! they told draft age guys) 1980 (But, REAGAN! they told any actual, life-long FDR Democrats left) as an obvious duopoly of two corporations dismantled everything our parents, grandparents and great grandparents sweated, fought, even DIED for. That dead-eyed, soulless slavering kleptocrats like these creatures were handed by craven petit-bourgoise, just TERRIFIED of losing their white flight suburbanite/ urban elite privledge.

Just cut to the chaff here, no matter who is elected nothing is going to change. Sure Biden and Harris will project something of a more reasonable face but that is all. Military spending? No change. Overseas wars? No change. Economic assistance? Minor if anything. Health care? Who knows, but it will not be anything substantial and O-Care simply is not enough. Environment and climate policy? Well maybe some high profile but mostly meaningless gestures, but no changes on the core issues of carbon reduction, green energy and certainly not the green new deal. It is going to be interesting as the Democrat Party will now hold responsibility for solving our problems when all they want is to keep everything as it is.
