From Paul Ryan to Nikki Haley: GOP Nightmare of Senate Budget Chair Bernie Sanders About to Come True

With Sen. Sanders sitting at the head of the table, swinging a gavel, at least progressives will get a word in edgewise for a change. And hearing new ideas explained without the usual b.s. will be a nice change, as well. Even the most cynical will at least appreciate a different political scent emanating from the swamp gas around the nation’s capitol. Optimists may actually hope and fight for a lot more than hot air or stink. We shall see what happens.
Sen. Sanders and his spokespeople will start painting an entirely different picture for the 99%.
The next 4 years of proposals could set up the next two decades for progressives and much of their legislative agenda. A chance is all we can ask for, given the present circumstances.
As we celebrate MLK Jr. this weekend we must remember that the goal of progressives is to get everyone to the mountain top. Not all of us will get there at the same time. Or, will share in the comfort and peace of finally residing there, equally. But, from healthcare to prosperity, from housing to equal justice before the law, the vision of America’s progressives like Sen. Sanders and his many supporters will get some real face time, finally. A breath of some fresh air would be nice.

I made a mistake. I came back and read more comments. Now I need a blunt and a drink and I don’t drink. Crossing my eyes. Going to have to take another break from you guys. My soul can’t take it.

If the priorities for passage are right with real benefits coming to their own voters, Manchin, Coons, Sinema, and Tester just might change their tune.

Just remember to differentiate between the messenger and the message. People aren’t averse to optimism, but false optimism leads to laziness, and laziness leads and has led to Trumpism. We must never forget that the right wing is not disposed to automatically embracing the left, obviously. It is incumbent upon the left to force their way into relevancy and to win the day at any and all costs - not rejoice at the tiny fleeting spark in the eye of the hurricane and expect it to become an eternal flame of hope and redemption. That spark must be fanned and fueled into a flame which must be painstakingly nurtured and fueled incessantly as a matter of our very survival.

I feel ya. Then they would still have to herd the democratic cats into some sort of coalition in order to pass actual legislation, progressive or not.
I pray that the DINOs all see the light (and that includes Schumer) and that they realize that the nation IS in dire straights.

I fear that progressive democrats may just be hoping for a moral turnaround from the DINOs not seen since Ebenezer Scrooge.
I’m not sure there are enough ghosts left.

Hi Shanti;
I am going to change the lyrics to that old ’ i am Woman ," song:l
"I am BERNIE and so you know
We the PEOPLE have far to go,
So the GOP had better listen close!
For that Donald he brought us down,
HE’s a brainless , thoughtless clown,
And his future truly read turns him to TOAST!

trump has ruined so many lives, plus an entire nation, that he should probably hire a food taster!

Oh Beli. Whereas your rhetoric sometimes bewilders me, it never fails to give me one of my recommended 12 belly laughs of the day.

I do not believe that persons like Schumer and Pelosi are grounded enough to realize anything at all, there are a few democrats who may be, however, but not democrats holding the key positions of power. The recent vote for Pelosi shows that just over half of the democrats in congress are out to lunch, and there are more republicans now than before the election, but democrats wrongly think they have a mandate. Republicans, with the exception of Trump, have actually increased their stranglehold in the last election, and consolidated their power. All republican’s need to finish the job now is an over-confident, milquetoast, democrat administration, (and congress), who hopes to enact a slow and gradualist campaign to ease, very slightly, the pressure of the boot on our collective necks, while making very sure never to remove it.

I think Nikki being female is her sore spot with the right. A lot of terrorist, nationalist groups hate women. She doesn’t have a chance.

This is where the working class remembers how they pushed FDR. Those wins in so many states, especially Georgia, were greatly, if not entirely, due to the organizing efforts and activism of Sanders’s network of supporters.

Small first step forward amidst regression: Representative Katie Porter is off the House Financial Services Committee. Guess she embarrassed too many financial mucky-mucks.

This is the best news feature of today. Thanks for this piece, Jon.
It is a joy to see Bernie serve as Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, “to protect working families, the sick and the poor.”

When I wrote my comment above, I didn’t want to outright say it for fear of sounding sexist, but, yes, “She doesn’t have a chance.”

She also doesn’t have a penis, which if you’re a Republican is an absolute necessity if you run for President.
