Excellent backgrounder on the various progressive or potentially progressive constituencies in the U.S.

What is the one thing that could unite all of these groups?

The root cause of global dysfunction is private control over money creation; that is, the hegemony of the Anglo-Euro-American banking cartel over the key corporate and governmental assets on the planet.

How did they get this power? Ownership of the Federal Reserve System, which not only issues the private bank notes for the world’s largest economy, but serves as the world reserve currency for most of the planet.

Literally all the issues that we have and the money needed to fix them can be reverse engineered to this one issue.

Nationalize the Fed and all the wasted productive capacity of the U.S… somewhere between 40 and 50%, and all the profiteering on war, healthcare, and education goes away.

One of the key ways in which the cartel, the .00001%, keeps the 99.99999% at bay is to distract them with issues that will never change the power structure. If we focus on this one issue, not only is the situation laid bare in its entirety, but we shall change the world.

“And even then you can go wrong. Look at Howard Dean.”

Yeah, and then Bernie Sanders -" … stabbed the progressive movement in the back by" backing Clinton …

“Our Revolution” is about electing more Dems - sorry, one would have thought we had gotten over that by now …

No, that leaves you trapped in the duopoly paradigm that has been dragging us down for ages - Sanders in his role as “Head of PR er Outreach” for the DP is a de facto supporter of the corp DP …

The GP offered it - we didn’t support 'em - it is not a vision we lack, what we lack is the resolve to support those who carry it …

Sen. Bernie Sanders campaign put up a really good, do-able set of goals: https://berniesanders.com/issues/.
This is a starting point.
Next WE have to BE the CHANGE we want. The way to change any political party is to take it over from the inside out. It is an instance of “if we support them they will come”. Do not expect some “savior” come forth and lead us out of the wilderness. We must have hundreds if not thousands of progressives running for local and state offices as well as a few for national offices (for as long we still have a national government).

We have seen this movie before and we now see where it has gotten us: Trumplandia. The professional class Dems are just now learning the lesson that you abandon the rest of us at their (& our) peril.

Don’t give up; Show up!

Yes!

It cannot be over emphasized, that Our Democracy was Stolen from us on 11/22/63.

A small cabal of Fascist Dicks, the CIA, led by its deposed (by JFK) leader, Allen Dulles, aided and abetted by the Military and the FBI, TRAITOROUSLY murdered the Sitting President of the United States, Jack Kennedy, for daring to Right the Wrong of having a Corrupt, and Too Powerful, Intelligence Agency, and moving (documented) to end the International Crime of our Involvement in Viet Nam.

Imagine if Viet Nam had never happened.

Imagine if WE ran our Country, instead of the CIA.

Then you have Imagined the World that we were ENTITLED to, and DEPRIVED of, had THEY not Plotted and Moved against US, that November day.

Cannabis?

Don’t you remember what happened at that 1969 Bloodbath, called Woodstock?

Half a Million People, clustered together for about a Week, without so much as a Fistfight? (try THAT with Budweiser.)

What kind of a World would THAT be?

No Wonder it’s been Suppressed for so many years.

Doesn’t help the Current Program.

Article from 2009-----seems like we have entered Hotel California:

http://www.alternet.org/story/141929/7_ways_we_can_fight_back_against_the_rising_fascist_threat
“In the post about fascism, I pointed out that the most insidious part of it is that by the time it’s finally obvious to absolutely everyone that these people are dangerously out of control, it’s too late to do anything about it.
Early warnings are even more valuable here than they are in most domains. And since futurists are – more than anything – in the business of early warnings, it falls to me to step up there and point out that according to at least a few of the more reputable atlases in the glove box, this looks a lot like the last turn into the parking lot of downtown Fascist Hell.
The good news is we’re not yet parked and locked, let alone committed to entering the building. (Which is good, because the doors appear to be all one way, just like in the “Hotel California.”) We’ve still got a few minutes to change our minds, back out of this and go spend our future somewhere else.”

Well, olliebubs, I don’t know what those groups are, but I’m done with the Democratic Party except to work from outside of it to get genuine progressives in. After watching Obushma and Killary lie, cheat, steal, and murder for the same corporate aholes the Republicans do, I have zero respect for the party. Our entire governmental system is a sham.

“Occupy Wall Street grew to 900 encampments around the world and changed the conversation in America from austerity to inequality. But it evaporated within six months. The spirited Arab Spring in Egypt took down the government, but paved the way for the highly organized Muslim Brotherhood and then a military dictatorship.”

Moral; get your act together before the jackboot strikes.

In a very much milder way all that is going on in the USA now reminds me of the run-up to the Spanish Civil war. The black hats have common cause; greed and power. The white hats are divided and fumbling, trying to work out what they want to achieve and how to achieve it.The black hats win.

The “glue” and the bandwagon of a connected movement is forming though Democrats try to claim and cap it in their own interests – including MoveOn. Our struggle cannot be limited to resistance. It must be about defending our rights but also about defeating fascist reaction andt moving beyond capitalism, not backward not to the era of corrupt corporate Democrats whose policies led us here. We need a movement of serious progressive that attracts people based on real issue and social justice. We must demand real representative democracy that includes all of us exposing and defeating the rule of self-serving deadly corporations and the wealthiest elite. We must demand and build working class democracy.

Re: @Jaded_Prole

I feel the frustration of folks who hear “build a movement, build a democracy” but just don’t know where to begin. Check out the Peoples Movement Assembly (PMA)

Start off by implementing a listening tour, a canvas of your precinct perhaps. and enlarge the circle. Take your neighbors pulses on justice issues impacting them. It’s about listening, not persuading. This produces a direction for the PMA. You’ll meet like-minded souls along the way who will help out and likely form the basis for your community organization. Getting started means getting out of your comfort zone. It’s the hardest part. Everything else you need (tools and resources) can be found online.

We don’t need leaders. We need representatives, government officials that represent our interests rather than the interests of the wealthy and of corporations. We need a diffusion of power away from individual “leaders” who have, more often than not, have led us from one disaster to another. We need direct democracy.

Why is so hard to say that we need a progressive political party with all of the attributes that were listed: elected, accountable and responsive “leadership, dues paying members, legislative agendas, and ways for participants to engage in decision making.” All of the worthy progressive issues and silo interests can be accommodated within that structure because everyone would come in as an individual member. No need to have interest sections, as such, to give undue influence to factions. That, to me is the only long term solution.

And most importantly, the dissolution of the Federal Reserve.

Regarding more issuesc to add to your list:
As moeforjoe mentioned, add the elimination of America’s wars. The greatest evil, most lives lost, biggest cause of the current waves of immigration, , greatest threat to the world’s environment comes from America’s wars.
Therefore, solving the war addiction becomes a necessary component of working on the environment, immigration, and basic human dignity.

However, turning guns into butter has not been historically a smooth or guaranteed process. Plans need to be made to welcome and acclimate returning soldiers to peacetime. Major military facilities and factories need to be gainfully reworked in peaceful, productive pursuits.Overbearing and intrusive security at home and abroad needs to be redirected.
