Like the calling of the rooster in the early morning hours awakens us to another day of standing up for our rights as human beings. Let us not let these important moments pass us by and use our collective strengths to fight back at these racist oppressors! Peace

I would respectfully change the wording from Bild to “scenes from a civil war”. It’s no longer “like a civil war”. Stephen Marche has a marvelous podcast about the civil unrest in the US leading to a hot war, warning our Canadian neighbors to be prepared. Good time to watch it.

Those closest to Biden are demanding he pick a black for VP but the only three choices they seem to believe will put this loser into the WH is K.Harris, Abrams, and S. Rice. None of them are really “black” or have ties to a black community. Go ahead, pick one but don’t bother expecting to move into the Oval Office. Onjly Abrams is a “friend” to blacks and that’s being kind. Rice and Harris are no friends to blacks, or their injustices.

“In the absence of an immediate cure, it is certain that some endangered Black males – and sisters, who are not immune to the ravages of the Blue Plague – will resort to home remedies to ward off the pestilence, as did Denmark Vesey, Nat Turner and, more recently, some brothers in Dallas and Baton Rouge .”

I understand the righteous rage, violence and anger, but folks that paradigm from my perspective, is exactly what Trump and his fellow Neo-Nazi’s want! That is why they use the narrative of law and order; violence is exactly what our Fascist, Regime encourages because that gives them the right to declare Martial Law, which means THEIR LAW AND THEIR ORDER! But they have no answer for peaceful, non-violent protests and that is why these fascists demonize peaceful protests with agents provocateurs and outside agitators.

Biden does not pick anyone, he will choose the VP that Biden is told to choose. Of the three that you mention I would pick the worst one…Harris.

Racial justice begins with economic justice. And that begins with direct democracy.

If its not direct, its not democracy.

"Police Brutality Is On Trial."

Finally.

We must never forget the institutions that support this horrendous human behavior.

Our government.

I don’t know if that’s true but all 3 have serious liabilities. I would pick Val Demings over every African American who could feasibly be chosen (he isn’t going to pick Barbara Lee or Nina Turner). But I’d prefer someone more progressive at least on some issues like Tammy Baldwin is on M4A.

I don’t see how a VP choice will fix Biden.

I agree and if we do not roar, the Republican, Fuehrer will see to it that we are not able to roar in the future.

As far as I can tell, no protests of this nature here in Hong Kong. I wonder why not?

It certainly won’t. But that doesn’t mean he can’t win. I like the guy from Question Time and his video ~https://youtu.be/Z89NWStN2tA makes a pretty good case that Biden has a better chance than I ever thought he would. Not screwing up the VP choice improves his chances.

(Note: I’m not voting for him unless he backs M4A which he has given every indication he won’t do so the VP choice is all academic for me.)

At least some of the violence is being stirred up by people outside the protests. There will be violence, even if it has to be artificially manufactured.

I wish I had some sort of an idea for a solution to this dilemma.

Racism, Capitalism and Colonialism are all linked. The reason racism is still a problem the world over is Countries continue to act as Colonial powers so as to benefit their Corporations.

While slavery predates Capitalism and Colonialism , racism has its roots in Europe in the 15th and 16th century. It was used as justification for the Colonial powers to seize lands from others and to enslave others to work those lands because the targets of said racism were deemed “inferior”.

If one goes back to Roman times there was certainly slavery but one was just as likely to be enslaved if one was from Africa, or Greece or Palestine or Britain.

With the papal bull that enshrined the “Doctrine of Discovery” into law peoples were deemed inferior just because of skin color. Racism then became systemic , the consequences of it carrying on generation to generation. The Church and the state needed an excuse to justify slavery as one could not speak of freedoms and liberties and the ending of tyranny at the same time peoples were enslaved so the solution was “they are sub-human akin to animals so they do not count”

You made me think of Mark Charles and his brilliant evisceration of that Papal doctrine and Western conquest. Someone shared a link, maybe here, (sorry I forgot who) about him and I viewed one of his powerful lectures to a Christian college online. He has a book also, “Truth Be Told.” Well worth listening to, if you haven’t already.

The current coronavirus pandemic is more than a medical crisis, it is also a political and ideological crisis. It is a crisis deeply rooted in years of neglect by neoliberal governments that denied the importance of public health and the public good while defunding the institutions that made them possible. At the same time, this crisis cannot be separated from the crisis of massive inequalities in wealth, income and power. Nor can it be separated from a crisis of democratic values, education and environmental destruction.
