Good News on Trans Fat, But Industry Loopholes Leave Bad Taste

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

In a move it says will prevent tens of thousands of heart attacks and thousands of deaths, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday issued a final decision that gives the food industry three years to phase out partially hydrogenated oils, the main source of trans fat in processed foods.

The only reason that the FDA has finally "made a stance against trans fats" now after all this time is b/c the food industry has voluntarily been reducing their usage of transfats b/c they don't want sued by consumers b/c the threat is real! It couldn't be the other way around b/c conservatives have been sure to take away any real authority and power on the part of the FDA to do anything about transgressions on the part of the food industry. Sad.... The FDA has become nothing more than a puppet relfection for the food industry when its original purpose was quite the opposite! Hey, so lets do the same with the NSA since overreaching and intrusive government is so distasteful to profit motivated repuglicans!
