Green Climate Fund: Building Resilience or New Business for Big Banks?

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

As the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the financial mechanism for the UN climate agency, meets this week in South Korea, more than 170 civil society groups are calling on the international body to reject bids from big banks HSBC and Crédit Agricole to receive and manage funds to help poorer nations tackle climate change.

Given their role in financing climate pollution and their poor records on human and environmental rights, approving the financial giants' applications would run counter to the Fund's goals, the groups say.

The true need, is for democratic control of basic industries like energy.

We need global resistance to private control of the economic foundations of society.

The acronym HSBC has come to mean many things reflecting its operations, but legitimate management of economic social justice is probably furthest from the minds of 99% of the people in the world.
Unbelievable, unacceptable, un-you-name-it

Profiting from crisis they created is in chapter one of the Democratic Party's play book that they have used since formation of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) in 1985.

Every day I get email messages from Obama, Pelosi and other Party elite admonishing me to send them money to fight the evil GOP controlled Congress. They never mention that Bill Clinton zealously promoted and passed the GOP's NAFTA during his first two years, thereby assuring a GOP takeover for the remainder of his presidency, and Obama promoted and passed the GOP originated ACA during his first two years, thereby assuring a GOP takeover for the remainder of his presidency.
