Harvard Study Confirms: #ExxonKnew and Misled Public About Climate Threat for Decades

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

A peer-reviewed study published on Wednesday confirmed "a discrepancy between what ExxonMobil's scientists and executives discussed about climate change privately and in academic circles, and what it presented to the general public."

And the current secy of state, Rexxon proudly led the charge at ExMob. Crime really does pay…

Unfortunately we have waited so long that there probably isn’t an alternative to the continued use of fossil fuels past the point of no return if we want to maintain our current lifestyle. The solution is simple to understand but probably impossible to implement: give up some lifestyle and go full bore to solar and wind before the total collapse of the fossil fuel based economy.

[They observed that ExxonMobil’s Times advertorials “included several instances of explicit factual misrepresentation,”]

Those are called “LIES”. Say it: “LIES”! Stop trying to be polite and professional while the Earth is burning up.

Lawsuits will be forthcoming. Too little, too late.

And it’s always nice to see the hoards of CD commenters on these environment articles.

Did I say “nice” and "hoards?"
Whoops.
I meant “disappointing” and “absence.”

so tillerson is corrupt
the individual who appointed him is corrupt
the republicans who supported are corrupt.

exxon is corrupt

this is not about climate
for them it is about money

if we do not call out for accountability
we are corrupt

and let’s not forget -
the democrats
what led them to put hilary against trump?

well, i for one, among many others would willingly give up unnecessary and overproduced consumer goods.
it is the over production of everything, from cans of salmon on millions of stores around the world, to high end electronic goods.
it’s not our lifestyle - it’s about over production as a method of wealth calculation/growth.

You can’t write about this and ignore the complicity of the media in spreading the denialist lies - not least because these lies are still spouted, with back-of-the-classroom adolescent glee, on site after site where climate is discussed. The fact that the false science was given equal billing by outlets like the BBC - in the name of “impartiality” - has helped to give their shaky and usually shallow claims a veneer of legitimacy. If the Beeb and the NYT etc think that there is still a debate, there must still be a debate, is the thinking. The fight to keep the fossil fuel economy afloat continues in many arenas - the oil companies’ contribution is just the most easily detected and explained.

Not only does crime pay, in this culture, people like Rex appear “successful” and as true “leaders”. The normalization of deviance continues unabated such that corruption becomes GOOD.

For truth, when an eight hundred dollar phone has a use life of less than five years there is a serious disconnect somewhere.

Any Republicans out there want to digest this and defend the free market system? Exon isn’t alone here we have many examples of profit over not just health but life. Smoking, neonicotinoid insecticides, genetically engineered herbicide resistant crops, drugs that invoke class action lawsuits, and politicians with agendas that are counter to their constituencies to name a few.
If corporations are people Exon has earned a death penalty.
