Here Comes Joe Biden and It's Worse Than You Thought

Norman Solomon

When the New York Times front-paged its latest anti-left polemic masquerading as a news article, the March 9 piece declared: “Should former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. enter the race, as his top advisers vow he soon will, he would have the best immediate shot at the moderate mantle.”

Stop Biden…

#4

“Say it ain’t” Joe sez:
“I don’t think five hundred billionaires are the reason we’re in trouble. The folks at the top aren’t bad guys.”

Finally. Someone worthy of the coveted Blankenstein/Dimon endorsement.

This is pretty simple political shit; Biden gets the nomination, Biden loses to Trump in the general. End of story.

Hillary Clinton redux

#6

Yeah, I can see that happening. But the party heads would probably prefer to lose with one of their own, than have someone they’re uncomfortable with, like a real progressive, be the leader of their party. That would be too disturbing to their comfortable insular world.

#7

If democratic primary voters are stupid enough to vote for a right-wing democrat (?!), then we can all just “Say good night, Gracie.”

#8

After Trump surely to god we can do better than Biden…This man is not a progressive, he is as republican as the republicans. America would be going from dumb to dumber. Same people who didn’t like Hillary will not be in love with status quo Joe either. Corporations love old Joe fuk-emindeass Biden.

If Biden gets the nomination we will be stuck with that useless sphincter trump for another 4 long years. Biden will only attract them Hillary lovers. Spoiler Alert Hillary lost…Time for new faces not the same old shit samich again. Come on democrats we can do better that should be the slogan…Not the same old shit again.

Good commentary, Soloman.

Lest we forget, this is, after all, America. Any of us who might, even for an instant, have believed that a surging progressive movement would be tolerated by the Big Guns without major blowback have been fooling ourselves.

Simply having legitimate discussions and debates between candidates and their supporters about the nature of a new progressive agenda for the nation, was never really a likely scenario. It was just a question of how and when the battle would be joined.

Biden, it seems, is the Oligarchs’ instrument and it seems we are about to hear the S-word thrown around as much by Dems as by Trump, in the very real effort to DERAIL actual political debate involving The People and Our Future to becoming the usual accusations and slams of vocabulary, sidelining the REAL Issues of our times: healthcare, education, climate, justice, participation, and a sustainable version of New Deal economics.

Biden represents a desperate effort to once again neuter politics and keep any such discussions being run by the corporate media alone.

We can only hope that there is enough energy out there to keep the resistance alive.

What do we expect ? Senator Biden represented Delaware, the state that has always had the most corporate friendly regulations of the 50 states.

The Democratic Party is experienced in scapegoating and will blame Bernie Sanders or Ralph Nader when Biden loses to Trump in 2020.

Mother always said that if you can’t say something nice then keep your mouth shut…(crickets…)

#12

Here’s the thing: Biden has run for president twice previously and both of those campaigns melted down quickly. I fully expect the same fast fizzle this time – the guy is exactly the kind of Washington insider the voters rejected in 2016, and Trump will have field day with his repeated gaffes and stumbles.

#13

Bad? Good?
It ain’t about bad/good, Joe.
It’s about WHO is Runnin’ the Show.
— as one of them who thinks they have a RIGHT to Run It, just shut up!

#14

Here’s what you’ll see from Biden, who’s well known for lazy campaigning:

#15

As Hillary, Biden is a flawed candidate that the people don’t want. Democrats loose again. We the people do not want status quo, we want change we can really believe in.

#16

another apologist for the neoliberal damn dems. one of the worst of them- will never forget his shutting down of Anita Hill. that in itself tells us so much of who he is and was.

#17

Plus he is in the pockets of rich corporations same as Hillary. This is what corporations want …BIDEN…no thanks we already have the taste of shit in our mouth(Trump) we dont want to take another bite. We want something that does not smell like shit nor taste the same.

#18

Agreed that Biden is the candidate of corporate America. So, if that is true, it is equally true that the real, anointed candidate of the party establishment, Kamala Harris, is also a total tool of the corporate elite. She refused to pursue criminal charges against bankster Steve Mnuchin, becoming one of the largest recipients of his campaign cash, and allowed him to now be Secretary of the U. S. Treasury. As CA AG, she worked hard to keep plainly innocent, framed black inmates in prison, and has already met with Hillary’s largest donors from 2016. No, Biden may be out there as the most prominent corporate Dem, but he is far from the only one. I would argue that any truly progressive candidate will NEVER be allowed to get anywhere near the Democratic nomination for President.

Harris would indeed be no better than Biden and not a likely running mate.

If Biden’s running mate is Joe Lieberman we could call it the Joe-Joe ticket !

I’ve always held the theory suspect that the Democrats intentionally try to lose elections, but if they nominate Biden, then I have to believe it. No better way to keep young voters home in droves, push progressives headlong into third party voting and completely gut any progress in pulling the party back to the left than a Biden candidacy. Can the party elite be so far out of touch with what is happening in the streets as to push Biden down everyone’s throats? Apparently, so. Have they learned anything from the Clinton defeat? Apparently, not.
