Chicago is set to see its first black female mayor after a historic election on Tuesday prompted a runoff between Democrats Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle, both self-styled progressives who emerged as the top candidates in a crowded field that included Bill Daley, a longtime politico with an infamous last name.

Whether Preckwinkle and Lightfoot are progressives or not is debatable, their being insiders in the infamous Chicago Democratic Party machine is not.

Female progressives have come up through the ranks for years and are finally poised to take on top leadership rolls. Chicago will be better for it.

Well everything is up to date in Chicago! Two females and both of them black! (yay!) One is openly homosexual! (Double yay!) The other is a former Democratic party chairperson and alderman. (Triple yay!) And it happened during back history month–Jesse Jackson approves!
(Quadruple yay!) And neither are male or white! (Boo, hiss!)

Now let’s see how well they can deal with the city’s crumbling infrastructure, screwed up finances, and public transportation mess!
