Love you AOC! Yes… Horrifying!
Somebody must have missed the memo: CBS colludes with TPTB in pretending there is no climate emergency.
Be fair now. Yes, the crisis will bring down human civilization and no, we can’t realistically deal with the crisis if we hold on to the capitalist system. But Bernie, using similar comments Obama made, said good things about Cuba’s educational and healthcare systems. Both of which are in fact lauded by developing countries around the world. Priorities people.
Yeah, okay, and the 61 page survey that CBS itself ran past South Carolina voters just days before showed climate the second highest voter concern after healthcare.
What, they don’t read their own source material???
Journalistic malpractice and malfeasance.
My Nephew, who now lives in New Zealand, also spent some time in Cuba and he told me Cuba has the best healthcare system he has ever seen in the world, and he has been all over the world. Bernie was telling the truth about Cuba, but the poisonous MSM is trying to spin it that Bernie supports Communism.
I mean come on now. The audience paid 1750.00$$ per ticket and all they wanted to hear was questions about how their pocketbooks going to be affected by a given candidates policy. They have a turd by the name of Bloomberg running and had to polish that turd up as much as it was possible. As the turd can not enunciate a policy on Global warming and as Sanders the only one to really address it in his own policy statements , any questions on Global warming would have made Sanders look good and the turd look more like a turd.
True confession, I find AOC attractive.
True confession, I find AOC intelligent. As all get out. I want her wearing the mantle for her generation for she speaks proudly and succinctly beyond her years. I think EVERYONE should listen to her message.
That is very impressive as Cuba is impoverished. Priorities do matter, don’t they?
As I, and many others here have said, Until the League of Women Voters take control of these again, and they are on PBS and CSPAN with no commercials, these circus spectacles will continue to be worthless.
…and significantly reduce the number of people on stage.
Come on. Really? It’s CBS. They have Gayle King asking debate questions. She’s famous for being Oprah’s friend. Like Dr Phil and Dr Oz she’s an unqualified hack.
That’s an argument that I’ve made often. I even remember shouting at Barack Obama in one of his rallies in 2008 that he may as well support single payer, the republicans are going to call him a commie either way. Well, long story short, he didn’t, and they did.
The Republican Party has called every democratic nominee for POTUS a commie, or socialist, or both ever since Adele Stevenson ran in 1952. It should mean nothing to democratic voters. Yet, it still seems to bother the shit out of the democratic pundit class. Jesus, I’m surprised MSNBC hasn’t had Chris Matthews standing out in the street screaming “better dead than red” to to uncomfortable passers by.
Yep. Their corporate handlers read it. So they can then tell their little puppets what not to say.
In the movie “jaws” Richard Dreyfus character Matt Hooper grew frustrated with the town mayor and shouted at him “your going to ignore this particular problem until it swims up and bites you on the ass!”
The main stream media, and to be honest, neither political party, is going to do any thing about global warming until they can make money off of it. And by then it will of course be too late. But wow, the lead on the six o clock news featuring refugees killing each other for water, or entire cities on fire, will certainly make for compelling (and profitable) tv.
Cuba’s healthcare system, including its humanitarian missions, is lauded around the world. The country has essentially built Haiti’s healthcare infrastructure and goes to places like rural Pakistan to deliver basic healthcare services. Its educational system is among the best in the hemisphere, and they spend a larger share of their GDP on education than most countries in Latin America. Not to mention its agroecological food production and its foreign policy. Look what Mandela said about Cuba once released. Cuba fought white settler regimes in Africa. These actual truths cannot be said in the US, and the reason is propaganda. Propaganda gets people to turn off their brains and those in power simply don’t want to have a nuanced fair minded discussion about Cuba. Period. And who the hell is the US to say a damn thing about a country’s human rights record with the countries it supports and the countries it supported in Central America under Reagan in decades past? Cuba, for all its faults, has been improving its human rights record. Could our largest ally in Latin America, Colombia, say the same?
Cuba, by the way, has been reforming its economy and one thing it is doing is strongly supporting worker owned cooperatives. Decentralization in regards to planning and the economy broadly doesn’t mean you transition to capitalism, and using markets doesn’t mean that too.
Think about how childish this discussion is. Our country was founded on killing the indigenous population and our economy for a good chunk of our early history was based on slave labor. The legacies of that are still with us. If we analyzed our country as these rich idiots do Cuba, would we not just point to the founding fathers and their racism, our violence against those groups, and that would be the totality of what the US is? I would imagine that Oprah’s friend would acknowledge the bad and the good, and could at least do a little bit of nuanced thinking. They refuse to for obvious reasons.
Is that akin to the program Farce the Nation?

Tx,
I actually have that one bookmarked.
Always good to share it here though - many of the kids don’t know about it
I’m old enough to remember the League of Women Voters moderating the debates. The questioners were rarely questioned on why they chose the questions they did because they were relatively unbiased. Now we get a parade of empty talkers (besides the candidates themselves) interrupting Bernie and trying to tow the corporate line. Do they realize how stupid they look?
The moderators questions were terrible and haphazard and they went on to a new question before all had a chance to weigh in. It was no surprise that climate change was not included. The corporate media should not be in charge.
