"The energy industry is a very important industry in our country.”

Who else is going to fund those fake “think tanks” to spread lies, disinformation, and doubt about climate change? …and buy, I mean… bribe, I mean… support… the prostitutes? I mean… politicians.

Not only are they not going to get this right, they aren’t even going to get close. Congress is as big a failure as Trump and soon we are all going to pay the price for it.

As disgusting as the oil companies raking in relief money will be (it’s a done deal), it will be the churches given the green light to get small business relief that will mark the solidification of the USA as a christofascists nation. What little was left of the wall separating church and state will crumble.

There are oil tankers idling all around the S.F. Bay. There’s already a glut of oil in the area, which is why they can’t offload. Some are floating the idea of storing the oil in rail cars. When these things explode, you do not want to be in “the blast zone” (there is such a thing). When oil-laden rail cars derailed in Canada a few years ago, the explosion was so powerful that most of the forty-seven people who were killed could not be identified. For good measure, the fossil fuel industry is generally known as the richest one in the history of money.

That’s what I thought too, that all oil storage locations were filled when the price bottomed-out a couple of months ago. Where the hell are they going to put it?

How little publicity this gets, yet unsurprising.
Similarly, no mention made re the USPS travails; they’re supposed to be about the drop in business due to COVID. What is not being mentioned is that the USPS is required to fund the retirement of employees seventy-five years in advance, i…e, for those not yet born. That is so utterly ludicrous that it’s likely being omitted for that reason alone.

“Democratic leadership must get this right.”

That is the funniest sentence I have ever read.

Love the picture of Steny Hoyer wearing a mask. But, he is not wearing it for protection against Covid 19. He is wearing it for the same reason as all robbers do. It is his working attire while he is robbing the working class while following the orders of his corporate gang leaders.

The Hoyers in the Democratic Party along with every GOP need removal then on to supporting strong eco-socialists into power. The Green Party, forming alliances with other eco-socialists, will be the answer to making our vision of a green and just world a possibility.

We know the price has just gone up with the all out effort to suppress the vote but it is a price we need to consider paying. I plan on doing my part and see it my legitimate area of responsibility even as I oppose this system of exploitation that commodifies everything that lives, a system hell bent on making a wasteland out of our support system that includes the eco-systems and all human relationships.

Good point, John. Your insight reminds me of the problem with organized religions particularly the monotheistic religions which tends to breed intolerance, as they tend to fight and murder one another over a personalized version of a “godhead”.

Another thought is that a “godless” communist should prove infinitely preferable to the “christo-facist”-why? As Che’, his actions to the contrary many times, pointed out that a true revolutionary is always motivated by love.

too typical of CD to blast the Democrats for not having a perfect bill when they have no chance of getting progressive-only things thru the Senate and Trump. Grow up - perfection is not an option, the bill is trying to help essential workers, the post office, hospitals etc, and we need that even if perfection is not obtained

No question that legislation in 2007 (I think) was designed to be the death blow to the USPS. Putting huge financial burdens on them while capping their revenue, a no win situation. What most don’t know is there are many rural addresses FedEx and UPS won’t deliver to, and they actually pay the USPS to deliver the last leg of these addresses. Many of Trump supporters will be cut-off from the rest of the world, as many of these same areas have no broadband access either.

Just remember that the proposed house bill is a starting point. They can not get this passed in the Senate or have the President sign without Republican support.

In order to get that Republican support they will have to compromise. The Republicans will demand more for the Corporations and less for the people. The Democrats KNOW this. If the Democrats held the Senate and the House and had enough votes to ensure this got past a veto , they would NOT have introduced this bill. They would have introduced one even less generous to the working class.

If you want evidence of what I am suggesting look to the Obama Presidency where holding a majority in the Senate, the Congress and having the Presidency, they introduced watered down bills that did little to help the working class and loaded up the wealthy (Obamacare and the multi trillion dollar bailout of the banks)

There is absolutely NO need for us to “rescue” Oil Producers. THEY have Financially Raped us for a Century now, and have not taken advantage of the Writing on the Wall, as to fossil-based energy production, instead using their gains to ensconce themselves into their RICH lifestyles ever more firmly… leaving us out here in the Cold that they themselves have ensured, and that is awaiting all who “can’t” get it up for the Church of Capitalism.

They had all the chances in the world, to take their gains and use them to forward the energy systems we use. By this time, we certainly could have converted ENTIRELY to solar, wind, water, and tidal energy, if the “Oil” Companies had instead been envisioned as ENERGY Companies, reinvesting their oil wealth into that change, rather than paying for the RICH to golf and Jet Set – and no, I don’t mean just calling themselves “Energy” Companies, as they all do, trying to syntactically fool us (which never worked, duh, which is one reason we are all so upset now…).
