How We Fight Fascism

How We Fight Fascism

Chris Hedges

In 1923 the radical socialist and feminist Clara Zetkin gave a report at the Communist International about the emergence of a political movement called fascism. Fascism, then in its infancy, was written off by many liberals, socialists and communists as little more than mob rule, terror and street violence. But Zetkin, a German revolutionary, understood its virulence, its seduction and its danger.

It seems to me that if you don’t want fascism in the United States the best thing to do is vote for Democrats. The Republicans (shame on them) apparently will go along with virtually anything as long as they think it will keep them in office.

In capitalism, concentrated wealth means centralized power. In communism, centralized power means concentrated wealth. Both result in hierarchical, oppressive authoritarian societies.

Direct Democracy

You really have to give this LOT more thought and observation.
Since the McCarthy days, no one has done more betrayal and damage to the labor movement … than the Democrats who pretend to be their allies, but silence them, and then push WTO, NAFTA, FTAA, TPP and more down labor’s throats.

Hedges recognizes this for what it is. His use of Zetkin to illustrate is more than appropriate.
It is important that Americans realize that the onset and onslaught of fascism her is a product of the Duopoly, getting funds and forces from what is laughingly called “both sides of the aisle.”

We used to say Dems TALK a good game, but even that isn’t so true anymore.

So, Chris. How do We the Poor People fight fascism in Washington? A.L.E.C. holds the majority of U.S. state capitols in its fascistic sway. Morality is absent in your analysis as an anti-fascist force.

Only Love. Only Honor. Only Peace. Only Music. Only Family. These, collectively, are the necessary antidotes to 21st century fascism. It so happens, that a Black Evangelical Christian will lead We the People back to moral lives that will end the corporate, ecological destruction of Mother Earth. Turn war back into Peace. Return bigotry and racism to Musicality. Turn hate into Love. Turn false pride back to Honor. Turn fear of the “other” into Family.

Tonight, in Washington D.C. at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 1510 9th St NW - The Moral Mondays Movement (not the N.C. one but many of the same people) is live streaming. On this Washington’s B’day (our nations first prez and a slave-owner), enjoy the live stream: https://www.breachrepairers.org/trainingsandevents

7pm ET

“A Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival” is taking root in all 50 state capitols. A reincarnation of Martin’s Poor People’s Campaign and the million citizens’ March of 1968.

Clara Zetkin, in her fight against Fascism has perfectly described both parties of the Duopoly here in the United States, and how they both allow Fascism to take root and bloom.

This lady saw Evil for what it is. Evil.

I hope all who read this Chris Hedges article, sees it as well.

Read the Lewis Powell memo of 1971 I believe, he was appointment by Nixon to the Supreme Court but his memo did not become known until after approved. The republicans are destructive and many dems are also.

Vote democrat you have to be kidding that party is a big sell out. The 2 party system is corrupt to the core. 3rd parties need to be able to debate the issues and take citizen united out of the system. Both major parties are war parties.

Ideology, of any color or stripe, is no way to rule over or to resist the tyranny of others attempting to rule because all ideologies are inadequate to the task of such responsibility. Scripture notes:

II Sam 23: 1-3 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
Don’t count on ordained Presbyterian minister Chris Hedges to ever look to the scriptures for wisdom. Nope!, plumbing the depths of fascism and socialist-communist ideology is much more exciting. Such is the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the ruling classes. As the nitwit-in-charge currently occupying the White House would tweet, “sad”.

Are you fucking EVER going to wake up to the fact that your beloved damnocrats are SCUM and another wing of the rethuglicans!!! Nah…didn’t think so.

#13

Sound familiar? Echoes of Iraq, Afghanistan; now Syria; soon Iran ? North Korea? Sure does look an awful lot like Fascism.
As usual, Chris is teaching us to see current events in a very relevant historical perspective. There aren’t very many writing like this. Not only is he one of the best
well-read of all journalists; he also reads the signs of danger as well as anyone, and better than most. Much of what he wrote 10 to 15 years ago has now come to pass. He is a treasure to readers who value the truth, even when it is painfully frightening.

Chris, I hear your message. But, hey, let’s recruit everybody. The Civil War was not won only by the slaves. The Holocaust was not ended by those in the cages. It took a majority of folks from all different persuasions to end the Vietnam War. In today’s society, people don’t all identify as workers. Small business folks are proud of their perceived independence. Entrepreneurs are often incredibly insightful about new solutions to old problems. Bigger business folks are not all without compassion. Make alliances everywhere.

Because hurting one hurts us all.

I truly wish the Reverend Barber the best of hope, faith and luck in this endeavor- He is A righteous man who has great ideas and A heart of gold…I believe Martin Luther King would be honored that Reverend Barber is picking up the torch that was so ruthlessly denied him that dark day of April, in Memphis Tennessee-

I am glad to see the formidable Clara Zetkin remembered. The parallels between early 1930s Germany and the US today are not exact, but the general thrust of Zetkin’s warning is still valid. Whether you call Trump a fascist or not, the crucial thing is to remind ourselves that he Is the spokesman for a much larger force within society. If he passed from the scene today, Pence or any one of a dozen current Republican politicians would carry on, perhaps even more effectively than Trump. The energies of fascism arise out of the social and economic forces Zetkin described, and the advent of Trump is not simply the byproduct of Russian intervention in the electoral process, however helpful that may have been. Facing a growing inequity that they cannot comprehend, Americans of all classes were and are drawn to the politics of resentment and scapegoating offered by Trump or they never would have been so susceptible to the crude propaganda of the Russians and of Fox News.

Hear this, Lrx, because it speaks to you, Hillary, and your ilk,

" A bankrupt liberal class, which formerly made incremental and piecemeal reform possible, ameliorating the worst excesses of capitalism, mouths empty slogans about social justice and the rights of workers while selling them out to capitalist elites."

#19

It annoys me when people scream ‘paid bot’ at everyone who espouses support for something they disagree with but Lrx is clearly a ‘bot’ imho and not a very effective . No one who actually read the Hedges piece and understood it who say such a stupid thing and thus all past and future posts of Lrx can be safely and totally ignored. I call on CD to ban this bot immediately
