I’m a Future Physician—My Patients’ Health Depends on Addressing Climate Change

Autumn Vogel

As a fourth-year medical student, I’ve learned plenty about caring for patients with common illnesses and injuries. But as a native of fire-ravaged Northern California, and a student in Pennsylvania — where I hear regularly about communities torn apart by the natural gas industry — I can’t help but worry about my ability to care for my patients in an age of climate change.

[Snark warning!] Aw, how sweet. A soon-to-be-for-profit physician in the developed world’s worst-performing health care system is worried that, as climate change advances, she might not even be able to serve the needs of patients with money. I guess those currently excluded from the system are already done for? If I were a medical student, I would understand that the future lies in pathology.

1.Ridding ourselves of capitalism will reduce stresses that lead to disease.
2. Concentrate on promoting wellness rather than curing disease.
3. Eliminate most physicians.
