Impeachment Will Succeed If It Demonstrates Very Publicly That Trump Is a Tyrant Unfit for Office and GOP Lawwmakers Are His Enablers

Jeffrey C. Isaac

The Trump administration continues to refuse all Congressional oversight and make a mockery of the rule of law, while Trump himself continues to denounce the Mueller team and his political opponents as “traitors” and to rally his mobs against “enemies of the people.”

Impeachment will draw a line in the political sand, and force a real choice: are you with the rule of law or against it, are you with constitutional democracy or against it?

Excellent points all. Impeachment allows the entire laundry list of criminal activities of our sitting prez to be laid out and showcased for the voters to see. It also allows for the prolonged dissection of those crimes in the press for months. This will NOT be about convicting him in the senate, it is about convicting him in the minds of the voters.

Failure of House Democrats to open an impeachment inquiry will be a dereliction of their Constitutional duty, and will weaken their chances of retaking the White House and Senate in 2020. It may even lead to their losing the House (not that Nancy Pelosi cares either way).

  1. We make huge collective citizens arrest of every one of these corporate criminals posing as “representatives” of the people. Trump will have a lot of company from both aisles.

Impeachment will succeed only if the Democratic (sic) Party can be forced to abandon its post-JFK function as the Fifth Column for the One Percenters and their rampaging gangs of ChristoNazi/Republican storm troopers. But given the total and undeniably irreparable failure of USian democratic process, that sort of change can only be accomplished by revolution, which even if strictly non-violent would of course give our Prosperity Gospel masters their long-sought, better-dead-than-defeated excuse to nuke the nation and exterminate the Earth,

You’re funny. Trump has already been very publicly revealed to be all those things and Republicans in Congress and at other governmental levels, not to mention his constituents (read: minions) are in lock-step with him. Prepare to meet thy God.

The author’s point number 4 about the fallacy of ending the divisiveness is especially noteworthy and the should be used as a red flag for Democratic candidates running on that swindle. The Republicans sure as hell don’t want to end the divisiveness. It’s been their strategy to employ divisiveness as a weapon against the Democrats at least as far back as the emergence of the Tea Party. Divide and conquer in order to push their fascist, fundamentalist agenda is now the party’s primary modus operandi. Any Democrat who thinks its possible to sit down and work with these racist, hateful goons or that anyone really wants them to do it is delusional or, more likely, yearning to return to the Obama days of selling out their constituents for the sake of preserving the status quo, all the while masquerading as great negotiators. Eight years of Obama “negotiating” with these thugs with nothing left to show for it was enough. Vote for a candidate who will take the battle to the Republicans and fight tooth and nail for change, not for a candidate who has already surrendered to the Republicans by running on a campaign to end the divisiveness.

He damn sure ain’t my god. My deity – that is, when I’m not being adamantly agnostical – is the Great Goddess, the poetically true, reproductively accurate metaphor for not just our Mother Earth but the entire Cosmos. One of her earliest titles was Mother of All Being – a core pagan concept that requires Zen mindfulness to truly envision because its implicit meaning is the Goddess is eternally the mother of herself: the dynamic of nature symbolized as economically and accurately as the truth at the core of any genuine Koan or descriptive equation. She was our species’ ruling deity for at least our first 244,000 years, and – prepared or not – we are now in the process of meeting her again and rediscovering she always has the last word. I cannot doubt that future histories – if indeed there is a human future – will confess that abandonment of her proto-socialist ethos for patriarchy and its metastasis as Capitalism was our species greatest-ever mistake.

Exactly what I would have said. Right on, we don’t need anything further.

Excellent analysis! What do we teach our children by ignoring the heinous behavior of this president? What kind of hopelessness will we allow them to inherit? What value will our children place on Democracy if none of the “grown-ups” are willing to stand up and fight for it?

The Russiagate conspiracy theory that the Democrats and Liberal media have been pushing for 2+ years to damage Trump - was a witch hunt. Instead of going after his real crimes -they went after his imagined ones - they’ve lost something crucial to propel the impeachment process forward: credibility.

But the Dems don’t have credibility. Is Isaacs saying that impeachment succeeds even if it does not result in impeachment? Impeachment has now become the next distraction, so that the Trump, the GOP and the ruling class can keep fleecing us, while the Democrats do nothing to stop them.

I’ve been saying this exact same thing for a while, ask my wife.

However, I’m not positive or confident the Democratic Establishment will take these steps to implicate Trump’s enablers in his tyrannical takeover.

Hey, I just saw a report from the U.K. showing that people there upset with useless, do-nothing politicians, are buying milkshakes from places like McDonald’s and getting close enough to these same politicians and throwing the milkshakes directly on them.

Can you imagine if every place Mitch McConnell went, people lurking with milkshakes scored a hit?

Impeachment is the filing of charges. Your sentence should read “Is Isaacs saying that impeachment succeeds even if it does not result in conviction?”

They’ve even hit a few visiting politicians. Trump has a trip scheduled in the near future, so I’m crossing my fingers. If they could pull it off, we would owe the UK people big time.

I did not know that! Thanks!
Back to your rephrasing of my question: "Is Isaacs saying that impeachment succeeds even if it does not result in conviction?”

Seems to me that conviction - decided by the GOP controled Senate is nil. But what’s your take?

Yup, no way the Senate will convict. Which brings it back to Isaacs’ point – he is saying that it is politically smart for the Democrats to push the process in the House, with ample opportunity for months of hearings to air Trump ugliness before finally voting to impeach, even though the Senate will not convict. Also to publicly clarify that the Republicans will cover for Trump no matter what. Attempting to “convict” Trump, and the Republican party, on the reality TV show of impeachment hearings.

i guess, except that the neoliberal Democratic Party is part of the miasma of US political corruption that led to Trump, and there is not much “democracy” to “save” in the USA.

Obviously they “should” impeach, and should run hearings to expose Trump’s criminal gangsterism, and should exercise their plain duty under the US Constitution, and should use this to forward a strong campaign in 2020. But unless a bunch more honest Democrats win in 2020 (there are only a few in office now), and an honest Democratic presidential nominee wins the White House in 2020 (there are a couple among the dozens running), then we’ll get either Trump again, or a shiny new neoliberal Democrat, or the corrupt dinosaur Biden, and will continue on our rapid slide toward political social and ecological collapse.

Isaacs is “correct” but also is still not seeing how thoroughly awful the Democrats are and have been, or how compromised the “democracy” he wants to “save” already is.

" Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi continues to temporize, almost to the point of absurdity, resisting House Democrats clamoring for impeachment…"
While impeachment would clearly shine a light on Trump’s GOP enablers, failure to impeach clearly shines a light on Democratic Party Trump enablers.
And, by the way, it is not “absurdity” to Nancy Pelosi, Her donors are the same people having a field day while Trump remains in office.

But Jeffrey U keep saying the democrats. I for one think it is very important that we remember that ATM the democrats are part of the problem. Who in the democrat leadership is willing or will turn from negative nancy and her kilk?. The democrats are up to their collective eyeballs in the shit>
