The article makes it clear 2/3 of the nation have common sense, and 1/3 lack any at all.

this article was very disappointing. it’s apparent to any intelligent well informed american that their corporate mass media is nothing short of a shill for establishment policies, deceit, and propaganda. the CIA has infiltrated and controlled ‘all the news that’s fit to print’ in lamestream media outlets like the n.y. times, as was revealed long ago, with it’s ‘operation mockingbird’. anyone who trusts corporate media is an idiot or naive fool.

That would apply to the majority of the American, sheeple;especially true of Foxy News. But all corporate media is culpable. One thing I agree with Trump on is the MSM is fake news, but of course not the way Trump means it when it tells the truth about him. In my opinion, It has been fake news ever since the assassinations of JFK, MLK, RFK, the lies of Vietnam, and 9/11.

The trouble is, this poll shows that, most of the distrust of the media is coming from the extreme right who wold prefer that the media be even more extreme in its pro-business, anti-poor, anti-worker, pro military bias.

Also, it is not a matter dismissing the mainstream media for its filters and bias and refusing to even read it. Even Noam Chomsky reads the Washington Post and the NYT every day. And on some topics, such as the pandemic, the mainstream media does fairly well. These sources need to be read, but with an appropriate critical viewpoint - filling in the information and analysis left out with other sources from independent (but non-conspiratorial) journalistic sources, such as The Intercept, Democracy Now and the newsletters of various humanitarian observers, organized labor, environmentalists.

Why did the originators of the survey feel compelled to categorize respondents’ views in terms of the two parties? Thought is far more nuanced than “Rep-Dem”—or is thinking only in terms of party platforms—propaganda—the only way the Empire wants us to express ourselves?

We can thank Richard Mellon Scaife, Roger Ailes and the good folks at Fox News for much of this mistrust, with a nod to the rest of the Gatekeepers at the mostly Jewish-owned mainstream media conglomerates. (When discussing the major American corporate media empires, ignoring the Zionist agenda really is beyond disingenuous and borders on bad faith.)

Interesting that you should bring up Noam Chomsky, who famously said, "Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media."

Indeed, the last few decades alone demonstrate beyond any doubt that our corporatized, monopolized mainstream media landscape is populated by CIA hacks, “WMD” peddlers, and Russiagating propagandists who are keen to see the country divided and conquered on the basis of deep state promulgated nonsense.

The job of the NY Times, et al, is to sell permanent, global war and the illusion of a free press (in a “democratic” nation with “elections” and “functioning institutions”), even as Democrats and Republicans routinely suppress millions of votes, rig election outcomes, and allow the oligarchs and corporations to dictate policy, even when their edicts are adverse to the wishes and interests of the 99%… and all life on the planet.

Effectively, the job of the mainstream media is to constantly lie, forwarding the narratives and agenda of modern fascists. And they’ve gotten quite good at it.

Yeah, so good that the average American has no conception!

Following the 2000 election research by one California University showed that half of registered voters read at or below an 8th grade reading comprehension level (Sarah Palin and drumpf territory). Add to that the constant barrage of disinformation and misinformation being allowed on the public airwaves meant to purposely confuse and disorient low IQ voters, and, yes, of course the result will be a dysfunctional democracy.
In spite of all that all the people would really have to do is then look at the reality of their situation covid, climate, and inequality ~https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPKKQnijnsM&feature=youtu.be, but apparently even that in this moment may be asking for too much. How else can you explain that still ~ 40% of Americans support drumpf. “You can’t fix stupid, stupid!”

Interesting how that 1/3 are the ones that generally get their people in to office

As a reinforcement of this, I heard Oliver Stone on 3 podcasts lately (Scheer Intelligence, Joe Rogan, Michael Moore Rumble) and on one of them he talked about just how bad Iran Contra was and how Reagan got a pass because of people like Katherine Graham, head of the Washington Post who was really too close to the Reagans to be objective about it.

Reference: ~https://fair.org/home/the-washington-post-the-establishments-paper/

According to Nancy Reagan’s memoirs, Graham welcomed Ron and Nancy to her Georgetown house in 1981 with a kiss. During the darkest days of Iran-Contra, Graham and Post editorial page editor Meg GreenfieId—lunch and phone companions to Nancy throughout the Reagan years—offered the First Lady frequent expressions of sympathy. Graham and the establishment never got far from the Gipper.

Poking around some more lead me to a few Consortium News pieces including ~https://consortiumnews.com/2014/10/18/wposts-slimy-assault-on-gary-webb/ where they attacked
“Kill The Messenger” which I really liked.

Our press sucks.

That’s what I was wondering. What about socialist, libertarians, and people who refuse to identify with any ist.

Yeah, the press is compromised.
But at least we still have the power to act on all of that misinformation! And we can all breathe a sigh of relief that our votes are going to be reliably counted by the likes of the Microsoft/Galois/Pentagon triangle, and ESS and Dominion.

Evil has a way of infecting others. The past 4 years is a testament to it.

I’m wondering if you know of the link between Webb and Robert Perry (founder of Consortium News), and Washington Post? Perry and another journalist, Brian Barger, broke the Contra-cocaine story in 85’ while he worked for the AP, he was one of the first real investigative reporters to be pushed out of the business, after he was attacked by the WoPo when it was owned by Graham, who’s husband was said to be a huge CIA supporter when he ran the paper before his death in 63’. Ten years later Webb called Perry to question him about the story, when he (Webb) was working on the “Dark Alliance” series. Perry warned him about the fallout he was about to bring on himself, but according to Perry, he didn’t understand the full weight of it.
We’ve evolved from that to today, where no serious investigative reporter works for any mainstream outlet. They are either fired outright, or boarded to death because none of their material gets published/viewed and quit.

I enjoyed reading your cogent post. Like I have posted before if you watch Corporate Media, you are being brainwashed by media presstitutes and whorespondents who are being paid millions of $$$$$ to be media whores. Do you ever wonder why Noam Chomsky has been blacklisted from MSM? Like George Carlin said: THE ONLY FREE PRESS IS THE ONE YOU OWN"!

I did not until today. I saw that covered in ~https://consortiumnews.com/2014/10/28/how-the-washington-press-turned-bad/ but I will check the link you gave. They have a lot to say about the Washington Post (~https://consortiumnews.com/tag/washington-post/). I miss Parry of course and haven’t looked at the site much in a while, but I like what I see and should probably support them (read more there, less here I imagine).

Given the corpress’ long and loathsome history of lies in service to empire and exploitocracy, you’d be a fool not to mistrust them.

Of course, that’s not why so many doubters do, is it?

The article reads like the problem is that people don’t believe the MSM rather that the problem might just be that the MSM isn’t trustworthy.
