In Europe, Hate Speech Laws are Often Used to Suppress and Punish Left-Wing Viewpoints

Glenn Greenwald

Terrorist attacks, and the emotions they spawn, almost always prompt calls for fundamental legal rights to be curtailed in the name of preventing future attacks. The formula by now is routine: The victims of the horrific violence are held up as proof that there must be restrictions on advocating whatever ideology motivated the killer to act.

Where does the BDS movement fit-in with this? Israeli terrorism in pursuit of their racist occupation and “religious” mythology, ethnic cleansing of territory to be for Jews only, and the accelerating illegal colonization of Palestine/The Occupied Territories/Negev is an evil that must not be allowed or tolerated!

Israeli refusal to be a good-faith party to negotiations (a frelling joke for decades! not in the Israeli/Zionist vocabulary) - ending The Occupation is now undermined and occupation/de facto annexation in effect sanctioned by those governments opposing the BDS movement as “anti-Semitic” or “hate speech” - they are now complicit to Israeli ethnic cleansing and colonization, and crimes against Palestine!

Attacks against Israeli occupation are “terrorism”, negotiations between the occupier and occupied a ridiculous travesty - one party has all the power, the other is victim to Israeli terrorism and racist repressions!

BDS! Until the Israeli usurpers/occupiers are driven out of all the Occupied Territories and their new ghettos in Occupied Palestine given over or destroyed, and real honest negotiations under third party sanction/oversight create the Palestinian State we must fight for increased BDS!!

If Europe is indeed using such laws to suppress left-wing viewpoints, it must not be working very well - because leftist viewpoints and leftist political parties (both anarchist and Marxist) are much, much more prevalent in Europe than in the US.

Mr. Greenwald STILL does not seem to understand that the biggest threats to freedom of ideological and political discourse does not come from governments but from the private, capitalist, owners and advertiser-clients of the media which prevent the greater US public from even knowing left viewpoints even exist through their strict control of what is “news”.

Maybe he’s been in Brazil too long (where in spite of the current right wing government has numerous socialist newspapers) to remember what the US media looks like.

Has Greenwald even ever read Herman and Chomsky’s “Manufacturing Consent”?

O Glenn, if only you had stayed at the Guardian, you would not have been side lined by Pierre.
