Using her first floor speech as a member of Congress to highlight the severe financial pain and insecurity the government shutdown has caused for millions of ordinary Americans, Rep.

What type of government allows a speech like this to take place in a room devoid of those that need to hear it most.
Ah, but if the GOP WERE present , it would still be an empty room.

Wondered about that myself. Maybe we should practice giving speeches in the mirror.

AOC’s attempts to stop the erosion of American democracy are admirable. Is she aware, though, of the Patriot Act and the NDAA legislation which is designed to dismantle/override the US Constitution and urgently in need to be repealed to get American democracy back to the time frame before October 2001. Unless this happens the Erosion will continue…

Workers need to be paid- period! And the wall- give the big baby a wall the size of building blocks then he can cry and suck his thumb.

As AOC said this is an assault o democracy not about a wall. That is what makes sense otherwise why not pay people or expect them to work for free?

AOC gives me some small and rare measure of hope about the future of US democracy.

In a book, Beautiful Country Burn Again: Democracy, Rebellion and Revolution, by Ben Fountain, he quotes from David Held’s Democracy and the Global Order, in regards to the political science term “nautonomy”:

Nauntonomy, defined as ‘the asymmetrical production and distribution of life chances which limit and erode the possibilities of political participation . . . To the extent that nautonomy exists, a common structure of political action is not possible, and democracy becomes a privileged domain operating in faovr of those with significant resources. In such circumstances, people can be formally free and equal, but they will not enjoy rights which shape and facilitate a common structure of political action and safeguard their capacities.’

Exactly. As to the ongoing ‘Red Scare’:

There is no question about workers need to be paid. It’s just that we all are being held hostage by a despicable government…

Ever wonder why White Americans actively engage in the destruction of whatever semblance of democracy they have left? Trump is the culmination of this process of destruction, but if you look under the hood, you uncover something fascinating.
“The satisfaction humans derive from revenge can be greater than the harm the act of revenge inflicts on themselves.”
This can be verified in the lab. This means humans are wiling to pay to see their enemies suffer. How much they are willing to pay depends on who their enemies are and the nature of their perceived crimes.
Demagogues such as Trump or Hitler are vehicles for identifying the crimes, the criminals, and the perceived severity of their crimes. In the US, the White Working Trash had been ripe to be harvested by a clever demagogue for a long time. Along came Trump, and we are witnessing history in the making.
When a demagogue takes over, the price people are willing to pay for their revenge can rise dramatically. This happens because the demagogue controls the perceived severity of the crimes against “The People”.
In Germany’s case, the price was the total obliteration of their magnificent 1000-year old country and the lives of millions of its citizens. This is all the more astonishing if you now consider that Germany had one of the best-educated populations of any country on Earth.
Breitbart and similar sites are an opportunity to see the psychology of self-destructive revenge at play. There you can see the Blue Collar Trash relishing the sweetness of revenge against the “elites”, oblivious to any adverse consequences.
Finally, be aware that progressives are also prone to destructive revenge (albeit to a much lesser degree). Venezuela today is an excellent example.

We live in a world where people are constantly saying things that sound good but when you dig deep they are not so true or accurate. Actually, do these people in congress even really have time to think about what they are going to say or do? We live in a face paced world where people don’t seem to have or even want to have the time to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. That is why we are filled with a world of plastics and nuclear power and weapons. Of course, money has always ruled the day. The Christian bible says that “money is the root of all evil.” If so, we have a lot of evil in the USA.

Then instead of making us all less safe, I say it is incumbent upon the National Air Traffic Controllers Association to shut down the airports, (like what happened after 9/11) until Trump and Congress re-open the Government and pay these people. And of course, I know that Trump like Reagan did, will no doubt, love to have them all fired.

The erosion of American Democracy will continue until a large segment of the People give their political support to a strong third party that pushes legislation for programs and policies that benefits the masses, not just the 1% and the MIC.

Do not expect the establishment politicians of either of the two Corporate controlled parties to budge even a little, until their control is threatened in an authoritative way by a stronger movement towards a true party of the People.

Reagan gambled with the lives of passengers, and was lucky nothing happened. The odds are Trump will also be lucky, but you never know. We might get lucky and a plane loaded with country “musicians”, Harley riders, prostitutes, Oxycontin addicts, and other forms of White Trumpian Trash crashes during landing.

Hi PonyBoy, I agree with much you say in your post. In regard to AOC the question arises: Shouldn’t someone who is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America be aware of the dangers the Patriot Act and the NDAA pose to the US Constitution and point this out to get to the root of the evil?

They may not want to budge, but I think I saw a few crowbars marching their way. We’ll see.

An actual real person speaking against the system. Am I the only one who is reminded of Norman Rockwell’s painting Freedom of Speech?
