In Hour One, President Trump Delivers 'Punch In the Gut to Middle Class'

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

About an hour after President Donald Trump was sworn in on Friday, his administration suspended indefinitely a scheduled cut in mortgage insurance premiums—effectively raising costs for middle-class borrowers by about $500 a year.

The drop in rate, which was announced January 9 and supposed to go into effect on January 27, had been lauded as an opportunity to make homeownership more accessible to an estimated one million first-time and low-to-middle-income borrowers.

Bannon (and his boss) need to check their understanding of "populism." It isn't just pandering.

#3

In view of the swift action to increase the cost of mortgage insurance, Trump should have had Ry Cooder perform his NO BANKER LEFT BEHIND hit at the inauguration.

Cooder's next song needs to be EXPRESS TRAIN TO NEOFEUDALISM.

think the damn dems will jump on this so that trump's voters will check their fees and know why they went up?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
--Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

Notice Eddie Munster drooling in the photo as he watches the first item on the bucket list he brought with him to DC in 1999 getting checked off ?

So no one knew about the new law and reduction for the middle class and they won't be told about the cancellation of the law.

Lamestreet media does not report on the details just senationalism. Trump supporters won't believe it anyway.

My son had his gallbladder removed this morning. He woke up to find that something had gone horribly wrong – Trump was now our President. Yesterday his surgeon told him we needed to remove that unneeded bag of venomous bile that has spent a lifetime working exclusively at processing excrement. But enough about Trump – the gallbladder came out successfully.

How dare Pence's wife show up bare-armed and without long blonde hair! (Recall the FOX news and other faux news outlets expressing their outrage at Michelle Obama baring her well-sculpted, muscled arms?) It is a foregone conclusion that Mrs. Pence won't be showcased anytime during the T-dump reign of terror (she does not present the T-dump-preferred and pronounced image...look at his male spawn's trophy wives and his female spawn sporting her long blonde (dyed to be sure) tresses (and dripping with her jewelry designs...carrying a carload of business cards) wearing only her signature clothing apparel and jewelry. No up and coming designer will find his/her fortune during the T-dump dynasty's control (Michelle Obama launched numerous designers' careers with her refined, exquisite, contemporary fashion sense. And they are a very diverse group of people).

My solar plexus is crying out in pain!

We need an outlet with a big general audience that can explain screw-jobs like this to the ordinary working person, without invoking Trump's name or politics. My conservative family believes all kinds of nonsense about "liberal Wall Street" and "defending our freedoms" because Democrats have failed utterly to communicate basic facts and ideas.

I understand that there is a vested interest among some Democrats for perpetuating the same sort of nationalist and corporate capitalist claptrap that Republicans believe, but those with integrity and access to mass media have to step up, or they're also culpable for the failures of the Dems and the successes of the GOP.

#11

Well, the poor can empathize with that gut-punch thing. Regardless, the middle class masses voted for Trump. They want to "make America great again," I read.

#12

Explain to me why you blame the Democrats for not convincing your family (conservative) that they, not the Repugs, will serve their (your family's) best interest. "Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up." It is their responsibility to look beyond the rhetoric, BS, and smoke-and-mirrors trumpeted by T-bag politicos and far right bloviators. Did they not HEAR A WORD of the message of PROGRESSIVE, DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST (the term "socialist" might just put off your conservative family right away) Senator Bernie Sanders had to say all YEAR? Obviously not.

#13

Obama and the Clintons conspired to destroy Bernie Sanders' campaign. Bernie was opposed to imperialism. Bernie opposed the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Bernie opposed Wall Street greed. Bernie opposed inequality and promoted justice. Obama gave us Eric Holder from a Wall Street firm where he duly returned. Our neoliberal former Democratic Party left the people and now we stand naked in the middle of the street with nothing. What are we surprised about? Podesta and the DNC blame the Russians for hacking us but refuse to show us the truth. The FBI and Comey perpetuated the destruction of Clinton. The DCCC takes our money. They take our vote. They give us despair and eternal war for more than $620 billion a year with no body count. Corporate media have censored every war, every bombing, every smoldering child. Our military is in more than 150 countries and we can't run a train or a plane. We have created so many terrorists internationally our babies get felt up at airports. Look at what they make us do?

Trump will sign anything the Republicans put in front of him. And he will keep on saying moronic and outrageous things. The challenge will be to ignore the moronic stuff and hold him responsible for all the regressive legislation that is pushed through.

#16

Been reciting that since Reagan. Meanwhile, the overall quality of life in the US went from being rated at #1 when Reagan was first elected (far from perfect, but better) down to #48 by the time Obama was elected.

Little will change for the masses of poor. Obama was able to bring us back up to where there are 7 jobs for every 10 jobless people who still have the means to pursue one -- a big improvement from eight years ago. We maintained our brutality toward those who are left out. I assume we now reverse course, increasing poverty.

#18

I haven't come across any support for democratic socialism in the liberal media. I guess the devil's in the details. Democratic socialism does, indeed, include a legitimate system of welfare aid for the jobless poor. Democrats ended actual welfare aid some 20 years ago, and liberals never looked back at the ugly consequences.

#19

Being a long-time volunteer for the Sanders' campaign as well as being chosen as a delegate in my region, I am fully aware of the machinations...both overt and covert. Clinton was open to incorporating many of the Sanders' campaign platform into hers subsequent to her nomination.

So, please give it a rest.

The Contra army was trained in an Arkansas national forest when Bubba was governor. Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State Seatower when we bombed Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and god knows what we're doing in the Congo.

#22

Well, then pack up your bags and move to a nation that makes you more comfortable.

They probably won't even let people know ahead of time when it's going to be the national day of patriotism.
They will just arrest anybody that doesn't look like a patriot.
