Inside the Pity-Our-Farmers Tax ‘Reform’ Scam

Inside the Pity-Our-Farmers Tax ‘Reform’ Scam

Bob Lord

No farm families, repeat no farm families, are losing their family farms to the federal estate tax.

'So hardly any farm families actually face any estate tax liability. But are those who do face this liability getting taxed unfairly? Are family farm heirs being forced to “sell the family farm”? No, not even close." (Photo: Don Graham/flickr/cc)

If “grandpa” wants to keep farming he can use the proceeds from the land sale to buy more farm land through a 1031 exchange and defer taxes. Even if he just cashes out the capital gains tax rate is 15% and no FICA, much better than what workers pay in taxes.

Plenty of manure fertilizing this faux family farm defense

When Republicans talk about family farms they’re really talking about stealing real real family farmland and giving Corporate monoliths like Monsanto, Smithfield, Con-Agra, etc more concentrated power over the marketplaces. Then Walmart, et al does the rest of the dirty work Especially so, in developing economies, not necessarily in the EU or Japan, etc.
The Federal Government is just the conduit to encase and push that power in administrative laws, bogus foreign assistance programs and one-sided regulations.
