It’s official. Let’s stop calling both parties the same side of the same coin. Putting the money thing aside, the assault on our rights, the violence against our bodies, the silencing of our voices, the disruption of the voting process, the flagrant disregard for anything other than white male distinguishes the Republican Nazi Party from the Democratic Party. Period.

Good article but nothing that most Progressives already knew a long time ago without any International study.

To be a patriot is to be anti-GOP. That’s been the case since at least the (s)election of Dubya…

i say again: POC will always be repressed by the state in the USA; beating back these white supremacist terrorists is going to be the God-given mission of all non-racist white peoples. We POC can and will help as much as possible, but the GOP has made it all but illegal for us to explicitly resist the slide toward Fascism and will finish making it officially illegal for POC to resist within the next few years.

Yes, to me, the Republican party should be called what it really is: THE AMERIKAN. FASCIST PARTY!

That “graph” confuses me. One side is titled “illiberalism,” a term I do not understand. Is it close to being “authoritarian?” If so, I do not understand how the leftist political parties of Bolivia, Chile and Venezuela are considered authoritarian at the same level as Hungary or Brazil. Suspect the creators of this thing are coming from a neoliberal background. Could see that Cuba would represent an authoritarian government–or China or Russia. Bolivia or Chile? The leftists aren’t even in power in the latter country. Would prefer a more tightly thought-out report…

the Democratic Party was rated slightly less illiberal

The Democratic Party would be considered a far-Right Party in Western Europe.

And that would be because the Democratic Party is a far-Right Party. The proof of this is that the last time progressive legislation was passed in the US was over half a century ago: Medicare and Medicaid were written into law in 1965.

" One of Word’s Most Authoritarian Factions" Surely that should say " One of World’s Most Authoritarian Factions"? But apparently minor issues like proofreading are not what CD wishes to prioritize. It does make me grumpy to see this and I hope they will fix it. Much easier to do than fixing the country.

Oh yeah? Well, I gotta perfectly reasonable criticism of the claim that the GOP is authoritarian. It’s so easy to refute an “international” study. Anything that needs to be studied is wrong. So let’s just do away with that little anti-Murcanism right now. Here’s my argument for anyone who wants to follow along at home:

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

Love the photo of Modi and Trump–two of the most dictatorial fools on the planet.
Modi is a Hindu nationalist terrorist trashing India’s secular, multi-cultural society and its environment.
Trump is a devil supported by Christian Taliban theocrats attempting to trash secularism and our environment.
Along with other brutal despots Trump loves–MBS, Kim Jong Un, Putin, Duterte, Bolsonaro, etc.–this whole cadre of right-wing “leaders” should be in prison awaiting trial in The Hague.

Headed towards becoming…??? We are practically there!

Study, schmuddy…

The US was “headed toward becoming” starting with Robert Taft, Joseph McCarthy and the Dulles brothers launching their commie witch hunt in 1950. The US was “practically there” with Newt’s contract on America a quarter century ago and all the way “there” when the SCOTUS installed Cheney and his puppet Dubya on the throne two decades ago. The current crime syndicate running the US is simply embedding fascism in every facet of the gubmit and culture.

That’s right, everyone already knows what has gone down with trump. I doubt Biden will chime in until after the election or he would be eviscerated as a partisan, and not his business right now.
But the voters know that we will get back to treaty our allies much fairer with Biden president.

We will have to stand together or else.

The sad part is - if everyone who was eligible to vote voted. Dipchit Republicans would never win another election. And evangelical nutcases would be forced to whine about issues on Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones and Fox news instead of being appointed to the supreme court where they will do their utmost to ruin the lives of everyone but their base and themselves.

LOL funny!!

Well Jayce, there is an unkind remark toward progressives, democrats, liberals, and leftists.
If you are referring to the fact that not much has happened since 1965, we haven’t had much of a chance with republicans ruling much of that time.
And now it is the republican party that has taken on the “do nothing congress” identity.

Wars, union fights, and now politics in general. When we let things get this out of hand we have to shed some blood to stabilize the country.
Most of this trouble (upheaval) comes from right-wing political zealots. This time leaning fascist. Oligarchy, authoritarian, BS.

The Democratic Party and the UK Tory Party are almost identical in policy. The ultra-right have the Republican Party, the right the Democratic Party, which leaves the left and socialists outside a system built to ensure they remain powerless and unheard.

Maybe with Amerika being a quasi-theocracy in the making - the ‘Word’ may be correct?

You know: “In the beginning was the Word , and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”
Gospel of John 1:1.
