Unlike California's failed propositions, the Greek referendum worked. The oligarchy was not able to defeat it by pouring money into negative publicity.

America sorely needs voter initiatives and referendums on vital issues such as wealth inequality, global warming, war, Pentagon budget, Citizens United and political bribery, overpopulation, immigration, Israel/Palestine, media fairness, GMO labeling and on and on.

Protests and demonstrations are not enough to change things now. As Greeks proved, only direct democracy by referendum can beat the oligarchy.
