Is There Such a Thing as a Progressive Bank?

Katrina vanden Heuvel

“Bankers are not the most popular figures in America right now,” says Keith Mestrich, chief executive of Amalgamated Bank. “The industry has lost consumer trust and has done very little to earn it back.” With respect to the banking industry in general, that’s probably an understatement.

The cover story rhetoric sounds good but so did Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign speeches. Will the other larger banks allow this bank to do business under progressive operating rules and not do all they can and bribe as many politicians as necessary to cut this, to them, potentially dangerous trend off at the roots before enough of the public gets it that this is possible and starts insisting that all banks do likewise.

What, KVH has never heard of Credit Unions?
