'It Is Not Right to Send People to Hell': Swedish Woman's Plane Protest Stops Deportation of Afghan Refugee

Jake Johnson, staff writer

In an act of civil disobedience against her government's inhumane treatment of refugees that quickly went viral, 21-year-old Swedish student Elin Ersson prevented the immediate deportation of an Afghan asylum-seeker on Monday by refusing to sit down on a flight until the 52-year-old man was removed from the plane.

"I'm not going to sit down until this person is off the plane," said Ersson, who streamed her protest live on Facebook. As of this writing, the Facebook video has over five million views.

What a brave woman. This is how its done. While the risk of arrest and abuse at the hands of the TSA thugs is somewhat greater here in the US, we need to start doing the same thing here.

#3

Excellent response by this young woman. We must also understand the “hell” she speaks of is the creation of the people of the USA.

#4

What a great deed. Compassion is the answer to all the inhumanity in this world.

#5

“Somewhat greater”? - Seems to me that there’s no comparison. Can you imagine just how long her behavior would have been tolerated by authorities, here, in the U.S.? She’s either be in jail or the hospital.

#6

Thank you Elin Ersson, not only did you do a wonderful human action, but maybe Sweden can learn to be a civilized nation again. After what they did to Julian Assange---------I had no faith at all that Sweden would ever do the right thing…but Elin Ersson did-------------so Sweden, your government sucks, but the people? Well as long as people like Elin live there--------there is hope that Sweden will stop being a vassal to America. and become its own nation----and one where human rights matter! Thank you Elin!

Elin Ersson showed wonderful courage here and succeeded – !!

A wonderful example for us all –

NOT by the people of the USA, but by our corrupted US government and CIA and which supports the system of Elitism-Patriarchy and its most useful tools, “Capitalism” and “Christianity.”

(Also see: “War Is A Racket!” by Brig. Gen. Darlington Butler who described his years of protecting Elites/Capitalism in service of the US government/military.)

And the vast MIC and Intelligence System which supports Elitism/Capitalism.

How did that arrangement happen?
Our Founders didn’t create a democracy, they created an Elite-Patriarchy, endowed them with land grants, gave only white males of property the right to vote. They privatized our nation’s wealth and natural resources.

This is a liberal nation and the people have stood since even before these “illegal wars of aggression” against them by 84% – and likely higher today – and Internationally numbers are even higher. We also stand against the MIC.
All of that was confirmed by Rahm Emmanuel’s obscene comments about: “F-ing liberals who would end the wars and the MIC.” We were, of course, the voters who had put Obama into the White House – only to be immediately betrayed by Obama.

#9

I am sorry to disagree. If you read both the constitution and the declaration of independence you will have the keys for control of our government. Our government rules by consent of the governed. It is our weakness that has allowed asshats to take over our governance. We have sold our freedom and culture to corporations for cheap trinkets like fancy phones and a position as wage slave in the machinery of profit.

Of course many will argue with that because they can not give up what little they have. After losing the honor we had by lies, war and torture what do most in the USA have to feel good about? Better slave conditions with porn?

Sorry Greenwich but you have played yourself into a position of weakness in which you think others have power over you and there is nothing that you can do but vote. Think again and get a spine.

The Declaration of Independence isn’t the Constitution –
and I think you likely meant to refer to the Bill of Rights, but that too has been under steady attack, especially in regard to the “right to free assembly.”

The 2nd Amendment which had been recognized for more than 100 and more years by the Supreme Court as referring to state militias has now been newly minted as a right to spread gun violence across America.

You are quoting well known myths about our Constitution and government which don’t in fact exist. The will of the “governed” – the people of the US – is constantly ignored by those in power. Our “people’s” government and any concept of it is long gone. Americans did NOT “sell our freedom” – it was taken from us by assassinations and secret operations.

Americans have wakened to the reality that they have been lied to by right wing propaganda - and don’t let anyone tell you that it doesn’t work.

Citizens did not give up unions and well paying jobs, they were taken by force and coercion. Still today Elites are vigilant in suppressing union membership and destruction of existing unions has been accomplished by the use of Mafia and forced mediation and personal threat to workers. At the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was no longer necessary for Elites here to keep a Middle Class going as a contrasting model with “communism” and they no longer support a Middle Class.

Many consumer products are frivolous and unnecessary, of course. but I doubt Americans would see any wisdom in going back to life without cell phones. And I can think of any number of events that the public is aware of simply because of cell phone video: The young Swedish woman who refused to sit down in her seat on a plane the other day until an “immigrant” being forced back to Afghanistan “hell” by her government was removed from the plane. And many scenes of police brutality across the country have given the public a clear and undeniable view of that brutality which is often based in racism.

Do you seriously think that the American public wouldn’t give up even every necessity if they could undo the harm done by Capitalism in destruction of our environment, nature, Animal Life – and our planet in Global Warming?

I’m not quite sure what “honor” you think the US had as it has nothing but a long history of violence – from Genocide vs the Native American to hundreds of years of Enslavement of Africans here. And another 100 years of Segregation even after the Emancipation.

There are, of course, still too many Americans who believe the lies of 9/11 and the
lies of the necessity of war in Afghanistan and Iraq. And the Middle East. But, by very high percentages – 84% and more – the American people stand against these wars and the MIC. Internationally the numbers are even higher.

I’d also suggest to you that the “War on Drugs” and Gun Violence which have come close to destroying our communities/societies have been created to do just that. That’s also true of the porn industry where it is being viewed by 11 year old males on the internet with the overall purpose of demeaning and debasing females and encouraging violence against them. There is now a very serious problem of addiction to porn among males in our societies which is resulting in their self-destruction.

Sorry Greenwich but you have played yourself into a position of weakness in which you think others have power over you and there is nothing that you can do but vote. Think again and get a spine.

Perhaps you can now add what you are doing to recover for yourself and your family the loss of freedom you’ve acknowledged.

Thank you for a respectful and intelligent response.
The declaration of independence is one of our founding documents and guides us in understanding where we stand so to speak. But the preamble to the constitution clearly states our creation and consent for our form of governance.
I do not deny the facts you put forward showing how we have allowed the rich and powerful to take over. That does not mean we are trapped under their thumbs. There have been many freedom movements in our country and everyone was hard fought and we all paid dearly for civil rights, women’s rights, labor rights, child labor laws and many others. We seem to have forgotten how we fought and won on these issues and yes more needs to be done but it will not happen without our demands, the work needed to be done, and our never letting go.

You know very well what causes global warming. It is within our grasp to change how we pollute. Drop that phone. Walk away from that vehicle. Stop buying the junk. Recycle, reuse. Do not fly. To fail to do this is to die by climates changes in the extreme. You know this you have the freedom to chose. You do not have to be a lemming running for the cliff. You can be different, act differently.

What do I do? I have not paid taxes for 25 years. It hurts. It makes life very hard but I carry no shame nor blood on my hands. I did not pay when the assholes went to war. What would happen if everyone did that. Corporations and most of our congress critters are whores for money. They put out a product. If we do not buy it dies and the company that made it does too. We have that power. Corporations are always trying to find out what we will buy. Deny them. I do not buy their shit. I do not have a damaging cell phone although my children may force one on me. I live in the country but drive less than 7,000 miles a year and would drive much less with public transport. I have not in many years worked as a wage slave to some corporation. I work for myself in my own business. No I am not rich nor will I ever have extra money but I survive and I am free. I use very little fossil fuels as I heat with wood.

I understand that to continue to live the American life style is to die by our own pollution. I understand Americans are dumb enough to keep on burning fossil fuel till they choke to death. They have the choice to do that and they have the choice to do something else.

I have in the past worked with CELDF to write laws on the local level to protect communities from corporate damage and that from of democracy works if people would use it. There are so many things that can be done. It just takes imagination to think and do what needs to be done. It is a joyous task to work to relieve the pressure and to get yourself free. It is more than hope it is agency.

To say you can not. To say you will not just builds a wall around you to imprison yourself. Everything is possible. TPTB will say no you can not. Freedom is to say yes we can and we will and you will not stop us. Identity politics is to separate us and make us afraid of each other and uncomfortable with people of other races. To deny anyone rights is to deny your self. You are free as you want to be.

And thank you for your honest reply –

The Declaration of Independence
http://www.ushistory.org/Declaration/document/

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

Good to go back and look at that document and we’re pretty much in the same boat that we were in then.

And, from what I’ve read of the Revolution, the interference with the Right to Free Assembly was the last straw which put it in motion.

The citizenship of the 13 states didn’t vote on the Constitution, nor did anyone at the time seem to recognize that in the wings were Elites ready to claim the government and that they had used the Constitution to put control of the “people’s” government into their hands – and control over the nation’s wealth and natural resources.

“WE” did NOT allow the rich and powerful to take over.
Our Founders put our government into the hands of Elites/wealthy and put the population under their power and control. THIS did not happen immediately, of course. The myths carried forward successfully for some time. But the groundwork had been laid.

If you notice in the Declaration of Independence – as you look back on the history of the US government and its seeking of Empire – the PLAYBOOK by which Elites work is made clear. It is always in use, with various improvements.

But, sadly, it did take a violent Revolution to jar us loose from British Elites.
Are we ready here to be bombed, to become refugees, to see our own children legless and armless as the US/CIA has done to many children in their wars?

Women have for thousands of years sought to overturn their oppression – and turn the world right side up – only in non-violent revolution. Additionally, we have watched the courage of the African in overturning their Enslavement through non-violence and by use of their innate intelligence. In the 1960’s, they waged a new campaign against 100 years of Segregation in the South, enforced with violence and by depriving them of the vote. Their non-violent campaign for Civil Rights is a model for all Americans. Same for the homosexual so long oppressed by “Christianity” which underpins Elite-Patriarchy. They also engaged in a non-violent decades long campaign to overturn the propaganda of hatred which had so long been taught by the RCC – and which was so effective that even parents learned to hate their homosexual children and turn them out of their homes. Again, another model of non-violence resistance – creative and inspiring.

Again I do not deny the facts you put forward showing how we have allowed the rich and powerful to take over.

Our scientists were aware of the damage being done to Nature by the 1880’s and the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

Global Warming WAS within our grasp to change when the model of Global Warming was introduced to the public in 1957. At that point, or very soon thereafter, the oil industry colluded in a campaign across 50 years and at a cost of $50 billion to lie to the public about Global Warming. Even if scientists did write about it, it was in the terms of hundreds of years in the future. Obviously, this was also a concern for the coal industry as all burning of fossil fuels should have ceased. For decades, the New York Times colluded in this campaign in allowing ExxonMobil to run “ad-editorials” in their newspaper – and on the Op-Ed pages – which they did not allow replies to by any means.

In the 1960’s automobiles had higher MPG than they do now.
In California, the government demanded 10% of cars be electric by 1980 and they fairly accomplished that in the manufacturing of more than 5,000 electric vehicles which were leased to consumers. The buyers loved the cars and wanted to buy them. There was a long and growing list of other drivers who wanted to buy electric cars. The cars were taken back and crushed.
See Movie: “Who Killed the Electric Car?”

In many of your recommendations you echo what I have been saying – i.e., that the public needs to return to work in their communities with their Town Councils and State Legislatures to pressure them begin to respond to the will of the people
on all of the issues which our Federal Government and both national parties have been ignoring for the benefit of Elites wealthy.

This will require slowly and gradually limiting the work day by ALL labor.
I’ve also suggested that many – perhaps thousands – of mechanics across the nation know how to re-engineer a vehicle as electric or solar.

I’ve also suggested that all aware Americans STOP the eating of animals “meat” which is the source of a long chain of violence with billions slaughtered every year.
But primarily because it negatively impacts Global Warming.

And other similar suggestions based in STOPPING our cooperation with Elites and Corporations/Capitalism/Christianity.

Also that we STOP supporting and funding organized patriarchal religion - “Christianity” – which is male supremacist religion and which underpins Elitism/Patriarchy. We also have them to thank for the very destructive influences of “Manifest Destiny” and “Man’s Dominion Over Nature” which was the license they granted to Elites to exploit Nature. Not only Nature, but Animal Life, Natural Resources – and even other human beings according to various myths of “inferiority.”

And YOU … haven’t paid taxes for 25 years?

(Btw … Notice that Ivanka Trump’s clothing business has been suffering a boycott in our major stores and losses – and that she announced the other day that she is removing herself from the business. Perhaps she thinks a name-change will end the boycott?)

Forgive your children for wanting to stay in communication with you – and think of how splendidly children/education by our public schools and TEACHERS did in convincing them to NAG parents until they stopped smoking!!! (smile)

Mass transportation has been under attack since at least the end of WWII when it was bought up by car manufacturers who ripped it up. Every day, hundreds and hundreds of cars sit at our RR stations in the suburbs. Our Town Councils continue to prevent local trolley service from our neighborhoods to the RR stations … because legislators who served Elites said … “Elites wouldn’t like it.”

So you do drive –

Keep on telling this story and making suggestions – members will read it …

I have in the past worked with CELDF to write laws on the local level to protect communities from corporate damage and that from of democracy works if people would use it. There are so many things that can be done. It just takes imagination to think and do what needs to be done. It is a joyous task to work to relieve the pressure and to get yourself free. It is more than hope it is agency.

Sadly, Global Warming has by now passed so many tipping points that it is difficult to see how it could be nullified. See: World Scientists Warning to Humanity 1992

First I must say I marched for civil rights and against the war in the 60’s. Do not believe anyone who says these were non-violent activities. No freedoms were won without violence.

One does not change others without changing oneself first. We are so full of what is America that we will not succeed at any change without addressing our heads full of non sense. Clean house first.

I worked with folks from a town near by that faced a 345KV power line dividing their community. They would not write a law as the will and right of the people to use democracy to stop this destruction of their community. It was their understanding that man had committed the original sin and as such could not take such individual action least they screw everything up. So their belief in their religion got their kids prayed on and they get to die by electromagnetic cancers from the huge powerlines running across their property. Clean house first and find out what you have already taken on board that is preventing you and your community from succeeding. TPTB are good at filling you up with total BS and most believe it.

I have a friend whose wife works for the organization that sent 9 scientists to the White House in 1992. They laid out what we face and their understanding about our climate. The president did nothing. Which points out the waste of time in educating and being nice. We need to stop nice and turn on our leaders because we have no choice. Probably either way we die or suffer but at least we stood up and tried.

In the end which is not far off we do not survive without community. We need that community now. In that community those that are the assholes will be quickly taken care of by whatever means. The rich are already struggling with the crisis they have created and see the problems of their survival without community. They worry their own security will turn on them in addition to everyone else. In that community that supports life democracy will rule or the community will fracture. That community will not allow corporations to do what they do to us now. Pretty sad we are so torn apart by BS propaganda that we can not see what we must have to survive and get it. As Capt. Kirk would say " Make it so."

In the meantime, what we do and what we allow makes us sick and weak and not in a position to fight for what we need. Surely we are blind if we do not see what we need and what we need to do to get what we need.

Instead of paying taxes as a self employed person I hired over time two people who wanted to go to college but could not afford it. I employed them if there was work or not as long as they worked every week to get into college and then stay there. One took 5 years to get to the end but failed one course so did not get a degree. He now shovels elephant shit in a zoo. The other got a 4.0 for four years and became a professor of sound engineering and technology at a college.

It matters what you do with your time and money. Yes could have paid that money to the state and been responsible for the death, rape or torture of thousands but chose not to do so. Every action has responsibility and consequences. You get to chose what they are or you are a slave doing others bidding for them. Changes in life never stop all one has to do is get those changes little by little to be positive choices. Enjoy your day!

Meant to ask you … are you a lawyer?

From what I’m aware of the demonstrations against Vietnam War the protesters were NON-VIOLENT. Certainly, US/CIA provided agents provocateurs to stir up violence among the crowds. And, of course, it was a “police riot” at the Democratic National Convention which was confirmed.

Nixon, I’ve read, actually had Armed Military in the basement of the White House as he lived in such fear of the protesters.

Nixon also, imo, colluded with the Governor in Ohio to actually shoot at college students at Kent State.

And, imo, Nixon did that because it seemed like the NEXT step was going to be that parents of those kids were going to begin joining them in the streets. That didn’t happen because of the shootings and probably parents reacted in ways to protect their children by calling them home. But, who knows?

And the 345KV power line dividing a fundamentalist, fanatic religious community …

"Religion is regarded by the Common people as true, by the Wise as false, and by Rulers as useful."

Clinton didn’t need an “education” on Global Warming --
Clinton certainly knew what Global Warming was and the dangers of it. What Clinton needed was to be freed from those who were controlling him and his decisions – i.e., Elites/corporations who had put him in office. Actually, Bill Clinton and quite a few other Southern right wing Democrats (including Gore) were recruited by the Koch Bros./John Birch Society to found the Democratic Leadership Council which the Koch Bros. and other large corporations funded.
Representatives of Koch Bros. and the other large corporations served on the Executive Committee of the DLC. The purpose of the DLC was to move the Dem Party to the right, away from public interest and to act in the interests of corporations. The Koch Family had been working for more than 100 years to overturn democracy in the US. And I’m sure you’re familiar with the dangers of the John Birch Society about which JFK spoke against in regard to those acting in secrecy.

I agree with throwing some verbal PIE as Maxine Waters suggested in her nudge to begin confronting the right wing leaders . . . after they have thrown a considerable amount of CAKE. The entire history of the right wing wherever you look has been one of violence. That’s the only way that the right wing can rise. That’s true today and will still be true tomorrow. That is why I support ONLY non-violent response. Violence actually helps the right wing rise. They would be quite pleased to use their many weapons on us.

There is still time to act in the sense that we can say that we did STAND against evil and fight for justice for all. As long as it is non-violent response.

I also find it interesting at this time that we are seeing a rise in the theory of Reincarnation which at one time was taught by all of our major religions . . . until it became “inconvenient” for Elites. Seems you are working on your Kharma.
(smile)
