Jane Fonda Arrested While Launching #FireDrillFriday Civil Disobedience Campaign to Demand Climate Action

Good on Jane! She got a LOT of undeserved criticism and hate for Vietnam and I, as a combat vet during that “fun time”, was able to see past the propaganda against her and understand what she was trying to do–possibly in a bone-headed way–to create peace.

(Guys, bash me if you need to…I’m used to it after fifty+ years!)

Glad she’s on the right side. Hopefully we all change for the better given time and better information. Of course, in the case of Trump supporters, the opposite is true. They dig in and defend their willful ignorance, just like their master.

I don’t understand why she was arrested. There seemed to be more cops than anyone else. She and the others weren’t blocking and impeding anyone. They were there using their 1st Amendment rights to address the government, and I can’t think of a better place to do that than in D.C, and on the steps of a PUBLIC BUILDING.
Is ICE working this beat too? A redress of grievances ought to be held on the Capitol steps— : (

Thanks, Jane. I know it comforts you to do these things, but it also comforts me to know that there are still those who believe in the ‘power of the people’.

Also, it was good to see Medea Benjamin in one of those tweets. Unfortunate first name, but that’s not her fault. Medea (this one, not that one) also (like Jane) has devoted a lifetime to peace and justice.

Will the next generation please step up? We’re getting old.

As a Nam vet I totally agree. I too saw the real thing, not what some self consumed fellow soldiers were saying. Jane did not consider the bad optics she might create.

Whew! I thought I might have been the only one who saw what she was trying to do. Thanks for letting me know you were also aware.

Why was Jane arrested? I saw nothing in the story explaining the facts or details of what she was arrested for.

Jane was excoriated during the Vietnam war by the MSM as " Hanoi Jane" and to this day has really never lived that moniker down as the fascist press continues to control the narrative.

Yep. And that is why I posted what I did. I watched that clip of her and could see her intent, but the media decided to use it to “create” something to anger and stir up people as their “war dollars/approval machine” was beginning to fade.

It’s more than that. A large voting block, one that votes consistently and methodologically now has a strong foothold on the Supreme Court, agrees with our esteemed Attorney General:

If I could turn back time, I’d be Canadian now. (-:

I tried to be a thorn in the side of the war-mongers while “inside” the uniform which I was tricked into believing was “patriotic” attire.

When my Brother got his draft notice to serve in Vietnam he moved to Canada and one of his friends that he grew up with has his name on the Vietnam wall and like he tells me, we need another wall with the names of the war criminals who were responsible for the 58,000 deaths in Vietnam not to mention the estimated two million Vietnamese deaths.

Thanks for your comment. I had the honor of sitting down with Jane and Donald Sutherland as they brought their “Fuck the Army” protest to Wrightstown, NJ, which is located between the Army’s Fort Dix and the Air Force’s McGuire AFB, where I was stationed as a C-141 pilot. One of our missions included flying in and out of Vietnam. It saddens me that people are not protesting, yet, in enough numbers to scare the warmongers in DC, to take effective action on climate change, including stopping the illegal, murderous wars our government is waging on the rest of the world. Climate change and these wars for hegemonic control of all the world’s people and their resources and are intertwined and inseparable. Thanks to Greta for being the courageous world leader that she is as a climate leader. Now we are in desperate need of young people like Jane to get us off our asses and demand an end to war. We scared the shit out of the cowering Nixon sitting, drunk, in the White House that one night along with Kissinger who was with him as thousands marched outside of ‘our’ occupied House demanding an end to that horrible war. We left Vietnam; but, our chicken hawk government officials continued their war on the rest of the world. Those wars have never ceased and are used as a cover to totally ignore the Big Battle that will end up killing all life on Earth. If our government will not provide the leadership necessary to win that one then we have “the right and the duty to change it” and institute one that will meet that need. See the Declaration of Independence.

Yore, Trump is just the blister on top of the long festering boil of corruption that is the US government. Bash Trump; but, don’t leave out the rest of the story. We must force our government to end all wars, close down those 800 bases we have invaded many other countries with and get to work on climate change solutions. Oh, and re-open the Nuremberg courts.

Greta Thunberg is showing us the way. All she needs is an anti-war youth leader by her side.

Jane Fonda is an excellent example of what happens when someone stands up to the military industrial complex. Fonda was painted as a traitor because she protested the unnecessary slaughter of millions of south-east Asians just because our government was worried that Vietnam would set up a socialist government and take care of their people.
Now Jane recognizes the latest war, a war that will end all human life on the planet with rising temperatures and more unpredictable weather. Again Jane will be called a "whore’ and be demonized by our racist supporting MSM all in a quest to please their corporate enablers. She is truly a hero.
