Wow, I like Nina Turner. Plus she has so much experience. I wish I lived in Ohio to be able to vote for her. We need people who have worked in community, and not some of those Congress people who seem to listen only to corporations and have trouble working for THE PEOPLE.

If there is a God, may she empower Nina to Congress. I look @these great, terrific, outstanding Women of Color-each and every one a fighter, a winner-and more of them to take over and run our government. Omar, Ocasio Cortez, Bush, Abrams, Haaland, and hope for their continued strength and shouting out of THE TRUTH. Is it possible to overcome BigMoney? and BigLies? A terrific [white]woman and black man ran in
SC but did not end the despicable careers of Joe Wilson and Lindsey Graham.

Now this is very confusing. About a month or two ago Nina Turner joined other guests such as Jimmy Dore, Cornel West, Chris Hedges, among others, on a YouTube program where she gave a rousing speech where she said that a People’s Party needs to be formed which can challenge both major corporate political parties. But here she is running for congress in Ohio as a member of the Democratic Party. Can someone please explain why she is doing this after justifiably pointing out the need for a third party which could instruct people concerning the serious flaws of the Democrats and the Republicans. Becoming a member of the Savage Mules is not helping her credibility one bit.

I don’t know for sure, just spit-balling here, but I would guess she’s running as a dem because the PP hasn’t taken off yet, with little to no exposure to the voters. I would bet she would switch once they become more mainstream on the national stage.

And yet that certainly did not occur with Bernie Sanders who caucused with the Democrats about 98% of the time and continues to support a corporate tool like Biden. Sorry, but if Ms. Turner supposedly believes that the Democrats are not to be trusted then she simply has no business joining the ranks of the enemy. If you had watched that YouTube program you would have probably cheered at what she had said about both parties. And yet here she is in somehow thinking that she is going to reform the Democrats from within. And to think that I was almost fooled into believing that she had actually recognized that the Democrats, as Lance Selfa points out in his extremely well written book called The Democrats:: A Critical History, are just as evil as the Republicans as he informs the reader that the Democratic Party is where social movements go to die.

I understand what your saying, and I did watch the vid. And maybe I’m being naïve, but I do trust Nina to uphold progressive values more than the rest, and doubt she doesn’t understand the snake-pit she would be entering. She would have almost zero chance of getting to Washington under the PP banner, and right now the slot opened up, someone has to fill it, I’d rather it be her than someone else.
Do you have someone else in mind?

Do you mean someone who would run as a Democrat? Since I am not a Democrat that concern as to who would be nominated would be meaningless. Again, her decision to run for office as a Democrat strikes me as being as hypocritical as Bernie Sanders who claims to be both an independent and a socialist since no self respecting independent or genuine socialist would ever join the ranks of the Democrats. I strongly suggest that you read The Democrats: A Critical History as Lance Selfa brilliantly writes how the Democrats have continually betrayed the interests of the working class and the poor while Dennis Perrin informs the reader how the Democrats are even more militant than the Republicans in his book called The Savage Mules. If she thinks that she is somehow going to reform the Democratic Party from within then I some swampland in Florida which I can sell her for a very cheap price. While she seems to think that it is a good idea to have joined the second largest corporate political party in the world I view her decision as a betrayal of all that she stands for.

There’s some credence to your remarks regarding Nina Turner’s efforts to change the future trajectory of the Democratic Party.
That being said, a sobering vaccination of Ohio " real politik " is necessary here for Nina Turner to win this Congressional seat. And, take her rightful place with the other Squad members who, at least, are going to make Democrats more honest and relevant. The People Party won’t do/be up to that task right now, unfortunately.
Tough times are ahead and Nina Turner will provide the wisdom and toughness to help her constituents and the country weather them.
We should all support her candidacy for Congress.

I get how rotten to the core the party (actually a corporation) is, and I have no idea whether Turner believes she can change the party (she can’t), or whether this is a way in the door. Someone’s going to fill that seat soon, better her than another corporate dem at this moment, is all I’m saying.

Two points:

  1. This is an off year primary that will only occur if Representative Marcia Fudge is confirmed by the Senate to be Biden’s HUD Secretary. The People’s Party is not running any candidates for anything until 2022.

  2. Nina’s main opponent in this race is Shontel Brown, the Chairwomen of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. The Party establishment is putting all of their energy in the race opposing Nina’s candidacy.

I love Nina. I don’t care if she belongs to the PissPot party. What’s in a name?

Sent her fifty bucks a couple of days ago.

At this point, all we can do IS all we can do? Spread video clips, written word, interviews, tweets around the lefty blog-aggregator’s comment threads. Her constituents need her, and WE really need her message to proceed her! Everybody keeps asking; what we can do, given frightening, hopeless circumstances to actually HELP? Well, Sen. Nina Turner’s candidacy IS certainly certainly something, I’m happy to contribute towards. Of COURSE, Koch’s DCCC is trying to silence, CRUSH, while their media disappeares her. Do you think we can compete with “our” party’s corporate LIES?
Thank you, @dpearl for again posting the most pertinent info!

That’s EXACTLY the point! Donate to Nina & post her most evocative video clips… then go PRAY for Pramila Jayapal! Everybody asks, where will we find a lefty populist who can raise hell for our dying working class, dumped by Schumer? FUCK these criminals who STOLE our party, to suck up to the very worst people on our planet, they’ve now destroyed!

Bernie’s Our Revolution members, DFA, Justice Democrats, Squad Supporters…there’s a solid progressive base for Nina Turner to tap into. And, Cleveland ( Cuyahoga Cty. ) really needs an injection of political energy/fire. It’s a place that needs to fight back against the austerity crowd.

I really like Nina, and agree that I would trust her to fight for a Progressive agenda much more than any other political candidate. But this trust only lasts until it is betrayed, and once it is lost, it pretty much stays lost,…that is a point that Senator Sanders apparently hasn’t realized yet. I hope Senator Turner acquaints herself with that reality, and uses it to shape her political future.

Your absolutely correct about the betrayal. Another way to look at this situation is if she goes down the “rabbet hole” for the dem party, she most likely would betray us no matter what party banner she’s elected under.
