Lawsuit by 44 States Accuses Pharma Giants of 'Multi-Year Conspiracy' to Hike Drug Prices by Over 1,000%

Jake Johnson, staff writer

A far-reaching lawsuit filed Friday by the attorneys general of more than 40 states accused some of the nation's largest generic drug manufacturers of conspiring to inflate prices, in some cases by over 1,000 percent.

"We have hard evidence that shows the generic drug industry perpetrated a multi-billion dollar fraud on the American people," Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, whose state led the probe into the companies' practices, said in a statement.

Every day there is a new report of another reason Corporations must be heavily regulated, controlled and monitored.

As entities they are greedy, sociopathic and lawless which seems to reflect the personalities of their Senior management. We also need to change the laws so that the Senior management of any corporation is held personally responsible for breaking, even skirting, the law. When found breaking the law (as a business plan) Sr Management needs lose their fortunes and do real jail time. Also need to bring back the Corporate death penalty. Only the Progressives might do it. The wall street neoliberal centrists - you know the Republicans calling themselves Democrats - will never go there because, well, Status Quo.

They are only following the dominant cultures belief systems.
It has been said …“No one does anything wrong given their model of the world.”

Me thinks time for a New Model …It’s well overdue ,the overhaul of humanity that is .
Is there something we do not understand about life ,the understanding of which will change everything.

Teva’s one of the largest Israeli corporations. Maybe they figured that the current administration and Congress would get their backs?

This will be an interesting case. I can’t imagine the Israeli’s will leave Teva hanging in American courts.

Weiser tweet sez:
“The @COAttnyGeneral is joining with other AGs to hold these companies accountable.”

Uh-oh. Hope these companies have factored the modest fines into their business costs, in the fashion of, say, the big banks. Wouldn’t want any shareholders being harmed.

When you’re in a room with no windows full of greedy, psychotic, sociopaths and little or no oversight or consequences for your actions, the dominant cultures belief systems get a bit twisted.

Yea, New Model, that includes the Corporate Death penalty, personal financial liability and serious jail time.
…and start with the heads of the largest corporations to set precedent

What else is new? American corps have been doing this for years. Market competition is just a bunch of bullshit, capitalism is a system that is structured to not be competitive, but to end up as monopoly. And the pharmaceutical companies have been the worst of the monopolistic enterprises.

THAT is the reason Lizzie Magie created the game Monopoly in 1903.
It was intended as an educational tool to illustrate the negative aspects of concentrating land in private monopolies

We’ve been robbed and harmed by more Companies and Institutions than I can think of. Banks, Credit Cards, Health, Chemicals… Why should Pharma be any different in a Country where any regulations they may have never are enforced? It’s like the Wild West all over again. Welcome to Tombstone.

Welcome to the kleptocracy where creating monopolies is the goal.

And the parties of the Duopoly, that 95 to 97% of the voting electorate support election after election, have been complicit in this fraud.

How do you feel, those of you who too, are complicit?

We need to abolish the “investor owned, publicly traded, limited liability” corporation as the basic building block of “the economy.”

The original such corporation was the Dutch East India Company, literally invented and designed to carry out colonization. Soon after, the British East India Company was reorganized on the same model, and the race was on. Today’s corporate predators are the direct descendants of these criminal sociopathic progenitors.

With investors / owners protected from criminal and financial liability beyond just their invested money, these predatory colonizing corporations move in the world seeking profit by any means necessary, and we see the results. From the monstrous historical legacies of genocide, enslavement, and grand theft continental, thru to today’s colonizing of life itself via patents on DNA and agricultural seeds (and murderous price gouging for medicines as seen here), these zombie vampire Frankenstein’s monsters (all three horror metaphors apply!) stop at nothing in their remorseless quest for profits. They are literally dismantling the ecology and impoverishing billions in their endless quest for more.

We need to end the rule of these “capitalist tools.” We need a “new abolition” movement. We need a different model for economic activity. We need to abolish or re-charter all such corporations worldwide, with new Articles of Incorporation that transform ownership from private investors to worker cooperatives, consumer cooperatives, non-profit corporations, municipal corporations, nationalized industries, and community, social, and ecological trusts. We need to abolish strictly financial accounting, and make finances subservient to ecological and social accounting.

But I am assured by those “Free market” advocates that this can never happen as the Market will ensure the price of a good rises or falls to its poper level!

Corporations will always self regulate! Right?

The truth is that on founding the Corporation was designed to loot , to plunder and to defraud. The Corporate Charter protects the Investors in the same from repercussions for their crimes. Even IF these Corporations end up paying a fine , the illicit gains made by this fraud by the investors is protected.

“Bring back the corporate death penalty”.

I can hear the republicans and most of the democrats saying “You can’t do that”.

They should be reminded that they are the ones who said “Corporations are People”.

Totally agree with you, but I would go for the elephant in the room of US Empire - the Constitution itself that enshrined capitalism/property/oligarchy designed by and for the rich, white, propertied males that wrote the damn thing.

The founding fathers didn’t like or want the only thing the people in the colonies wanted - the Bill of Rights. But that too has been totally usurped by corporations.

Our Constitution is not worth fixing piece by piece. I think we as a nation are right back where we started. It is time for another revolution to overthrow King Capital and another Constitutional Convention of the States/Colonies. I know that that proposition is fraught with danger, but what we have now is going to kill us all is pretty short order now - what with climate chaos on our doorstep and the global oligarchs already feeding on the circus of what is left of Mother Earth.

Agreed. i support Move to Amend, which is working to end the fiction that “money is speech” under the present US constitution, and to abolish “corporate personhood” that grants corporations constitutional and civil rights under the present US constitution.

But it’s time to act more comprehensively. Not only in the USA, but in terms of being a global transformation. We need a worldwide movement.
