Kudos to the people of Maine!
I'd like to add an observation connecting the arts to civil life. An observation that forever altered my point of view noted that a finished work, much more than resonating with some deep aesthetic element was also a map, a tracing of the artist's process. The value of this increases exponentially when shared among people .
The arts are - across the globe - whether the arts of a shaman or a physicist, a sculptor or a builder, a musician or a weaver, a poet or a farmer - all human endeavor, fundamentally based on love and respect for entire generations of aggregate skills learned in the felt presence of direct experience, whereby the fruits of labor resonate socially/spiritually and strengthen our capacity to love and learn from each other.

As a Mainer, a Green Mainer, AND an Anti-EMPIRE Mainer, I can only say about your CD headline, "'Mad As Hell' Mainers Defend Democracy" that if JFK had lived he might have corrected and more specifically identified "those' in his famous quote:

"Those who make non-violent revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable"
with this:

"The Empire which makes non-violent revolution impossible, makes violent revolution inevitable" ----

unless we, like Martin Luther King, try to start a non-violent Second
American Revolution against this global militarist Empire with a "shout
heard round the world" instead of a "shot heard round the world".

We all need to open our minds and our windows and shout-out Empire, expose
Empire, rip the mask off Empire, and shout more specifically:

"We're mad as HELL and we're not going to take this EMPIRE anymore"

Tell us how you REALLY feel...LOL
Kinda hard to see the lack of shame they have as they swindle the people....

It has to come from the grass roots.

In fact, it is the only way it ever has." Margaret Mead

The other things I'd like to clarify about some of your phrasing and 'framing' of this most important issue, Lauren, is that "big money", which is certainly part of the problem, is not the cancerous and causal core of our entire "ailing social order" in this Disguised Global Crony-Capitalist EMPIRE using/abusing our former country.

The term "big money", and especially the rap about "big money" from Senator Bulworth's truth-telling re-election luncheon rap in the fabulously revealing film of that name is humorous and satirical 'outing' the truth --- but this deeply hidden cancer of Empire we face includes all six-sectors of; corporate, financial, militarist, media/propaganda, extra-legal, and dual-party Vichy-political facade of democracy in Empire's "Final Phase":

As Zygmunt Bauman hauntingly puts it, “In the case of an ailing social order, the absence of an adequate diagnosis…is a crucial, perhaps decisive, part of the disease.”13

Berman, Morris (2011-02-07). Dark Ages America: The Final Phase of Empire (p. 22). Norton. Kindle Edition.

But beyond raping just about the "big money" Senator Bulworth in his fictional 1998 truth-telling re-election campaign luncheon rap did not understand that "big money" is only one-sector of this highly integrated (but well hidden) DGC-C EMPIRE.

BTW, I can't guarantee that this video clip will play because this is the most dangerous political film ever allowed to be seen by an American audience.

BTW2, Reportedly Obama has said that some days he would just like to 'go Bulworth' --- but of course he never has nor will have the guts to do that. Instead, it seems to me that his closest connection with a video clip was when he was actually bombing Libyan civilians to death and told the "big lie" on National TV, "We're NOT there for Empire" --- which is exactly why the Empire only 'posing' as the U.S. and us was there. This political "big lie" from the faux-Emperor/president puppet of the real DGC-C Empire thus sounded very much like the lying "Land Shark" on an old SNL skit, "Whose there? It's NOT the Land Shark", when it was exactly the Land Shark at the door.

I absolutely love that movie and watch it more often than most- I loved the lecture Arthur Jensen (actor Ned Beatty) gave Howard Beale in the conference room- Beatty's best performance ever!!!!

"Good morning, Mr. Beale.
-They tell me you're a madman.
-Only desultorily.
-How are you now?
-I'm as mad as a hatter.
Who isn't?
I'm going to take you
into our conference room.
Seems more seemly a setting
for what I have to say to you.
I started as a salesman, Mr. Beale.
I sold sewing machines
and automobile parts...
...hairbrushes and electronic equipment.
They say I can sell anything.
I'd like to try to sell something to you.
Valhalla, Mr. Beale. Please, sit down.
You have meddled with the primal forces
of nature, Mr. Beale.
And I won't have it! Is that clear?
You think you've merely stopped
a business deal.
That is not the case.
The Arabs have taken billions of dollars
out of this country...
...and now they must put it back!
It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity,
it is ecological balance.
You are an old man...
...who thinks in terms
of nations and peoples.
There are no nations, there are no peoples.
There are no Russians.
There are no Arabs.
There are no Third Worlds.
There is no West!
There is only one holistic system
of systems.
One vast and immane...
...interwoven, interacting, multi-variate...
...multinational dominion of dollars.
Petrol dollars, electro-dollars,
multi-dollars.
Reichsmarks, rins, rubles,
pounds and shekels.
It is the international system of currency
which determines...
...the totality of life on this planet.
That is the natural order of things today.
That is the atomic...
...and subatomic...
...and galactic structure
of things today.
And you have meddled...
...with the primal forces of nature!
And you will atone.
Am I getting it through to you, Mr. Beale?
You get up on your little 21-inch screen...
...and howl about America
and democracy.
There is no America.
There is no democracy.
There is only IBM and ITT and AT&T...
...and Dupont, Dow,
Union Carbide, and Exxon.
Those are the nations of the world today.
What do you think the Russians talk about
in their councils of state? Karl Marx?
They get out their
linear programming charts...
...statistical decision theories,
minimax solutions...
...and compute price-cost probabilities
of transactions and investments...
...just like we do.
We no longer live in a world of nations
and ideologies, Mr. Beale.
The world is a college of corporations...
...inexorably determined
by the immutable bylaws of business.
The world is a business, Mr. Beale.
It has been since man
crawled out of the slime.
And our children will live, Mr. Beale...
...to see that...
...perfect world...
...in which there's no war or famine...
...oppression or brutality.
One vast and ecumenical
holding company...
...for whom all men will work
to serve a common profit...
...in which all men will hold
a share of stock...
...all necessities provided...
...all anxieties tranquillized...
...all boredom amused.
And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale...
...to preach this evangel.
Why me?
Because you're on television, dummy.
Sixty million people watch you every night
of the week, Monday through Friday.
I have seen the face of God.
You just might be right, Mr. Beale".

We don't have no Spring up here. In July the sledding just gets muddy.

Actually, it is great --- except to Gov LePlague.

#15

He was pretty good in Bonnie and Clyde as well as with Natalie in "Splendor"

#16

He was also pretty good in supporting George McGovern in his bid for that "highly esteemed" office....
