“RBG’s repeated hospitalizations and bad votes are starting to give me pause about believing that our civil liberties should hinge on a single 87 year old”
You’re starting to have some misgivings about that “strategy,” huh, liberals??? Ya don’t say!!! Who woulda thunk it?!
RBG has been failing at protecting public safety since she voted the death penalty for child rapists to be “cruel and unusual”. The possibility of an adult killing a child “unintentionally” during sexual assault also dosen’t matter. Her latest vote to overturn a 4 year old child’s rapists’ conviction based on a native man doing it on native land to give oklahoma tribes better jurisdiction proves it further. she’s no friend to women and children. rapey kavenaugh and thomas are trash too.
If progressives want to halt the rightward shift of the SCOTUS, they’ll have to flip the Senate - and not by electing Republican Democrats like Hickenlooper in Colorado and McGrath in Kentucky or Schumer puppets like Gideon in Maine or any other Joe Manchin clones. Progressives need a real progressive voice in the Senate, and the only opportunity for that is in Maine, where ranked choice voting gives the Green Party candidate, Lisa Savage, a chance to win *if progressives nationwide will support her campaign.
Send money and/or make phone calls.
And Paula Jean Swearengin (WV) is the only other opportunity I know of to flip an R seat in the senate with a true progressive (some others in the House of course). It’s annoying she wasn’t even mentioned in ~https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/07/senate-progressives-election-297332, not that I expect much from them.
For a nice interview, see:

I’m sure there are many progressive third party challengers in other states, but only Maine has RCV for federal races and only Paula in WV made it through the gates of hell (Democratic Senate primary).
The Supreme Court is just another institution that, for the most part, serves the interests of the rich and powerful. If RBG dies before November, the Republicans are sure to push for confirmation of one of Trump’s right wing nominees. If Biden wins, he is certain to nominate a candidate that, while not a abhorrent as a Trump nominee, is still pretty right leaning. At this point, I agree with folk in the Black Lives Matter movement who have put forth proposals for progressive alternatives to the US system of Just-US.
Rest well and speedy recovery Ms. Ginsburg.
RBG must be one of the strongest people ever born. She has worked tirelessly and fearlessly for decades. Wishing her fast and full recovery regardless of whether she decides to keep working. (I suspect she will).
