Proclaiming "Nine lives, one love," Charleston has responded to the racist murders of nine of its own with extraordinary acts of grace, hope and solidarity, from victims' weeping families offering forgiveness to the killer to "bent but not broken" worshippers at Emanuel AME declaring, "The doors of the church are open." Sunday night, a Unity Chain across the infamous Ravenel Bridge aspired to draw 3,000; up to 20,000 came, vowing, "Hate won't win."
