Medicare for All Sponsor Rep. Jayapal Challenges Biden's Comments on Labor Unions and Health Insurance
"If they like their employer-based insurance…
Healthcare Insurance companies do not provide healthcare, they only pay the bills and dictate what care is available to you. The only difference between MFA and the current For Profit system is who pays the bills and who is allowed to dictate what is available to you and how much of your money is extracted for OVERHEAD. What the hell is the difference WHO pays the bill? MFA is much less expensive. An overhead of approx 18% vs an overhead of about 2%
Employer-based insurance still leaves you with Corporate Death Panels.
Employer-based insurance still gives the FOR PROFIT mentality control over what healthcare is available to you .
Employer-based insurance companies do not make their money by PROVIDING healthcare. Employer-based insurance companies make their profits by DENYING healthcare
This should be a no-brainier even to a corporate whore like Biden. As is his history, Biden is siding with the corporate billionaires rather than the rest of us.
“Private insurance companies in this country spend between 12 and 18 percent on administration costs. The cost of administering the Medicare program, a very popular program that works well for our seniors, is 2 percent. We can save approximately $500 billion a year just in administration costs.”
— Bernie Sanders on Sunday, September 17th, 2017 in an interview
Where the absolute eff does Biden get off thinking we should “buy into” something we already pay for?
Can you say “dead in the water”?
Now that’s a damn good point!
I get most of my news on YouTube from non-MSM affiliated sources. Bernie is their preferred candidate while the MSM crams Biden down our throats.
We need to take back the public airwaves.
agree but how?
Unless there is a sympathetic Human-being Billionaire or two who wants to get into the TV biz… eh
This man is also appealing to Trump’s base–working class in unions who have voted Republican.
Obviously The Dem Party is still using the 2016 “Schumer Logic” that the Party doesn’t want or need Center Left Democrats because they will get “moderate” (sic) republicans to cross over and fill the gap. How’d that work last time Chuckles?
“For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin.”
- Chuck Schumer
Let’s be clear. The Democratic Party under Bill Clinton transformed itself into the traditional Republican Party, and the Republican Party moved, was pushed, so far to the right it became insane.
- Chris Hedges
To parphrase HL Mencken, nobody ever lost an election because he underestimated the intelligence of the American public.
Notwithstanding Jayapal’s analyses, most people can only handle one number in their head at a time. If it’s a big number, they get scared. Joe B is de-vil-ish sly and no doubt knows this. And once it’s in the typical voter’s head that “Oh no, progressives want to take away my health care,” it ain’t coming out for nothing–logic be damned!
That said, Biden might not have needed to make those comments. The typical voter is also scared enough to think, “But what if we try it and it doesn’t work! Oh no!”
Good to see Rep. Jayapal challenging and refuting Biden’s lame and self-serving claims about single payer Medicare for All. It’s a complicated subject, and can be easily manipulated by those who benefit from the status quo for-profit healthcare system, which wastes so much and excludes many. Maybe it will take a while to get there, but I hope we can join the other countries who have it, and stop being an outlier. We have a climate to address, now, and will need everyone’s health covered and all our resources possible so we can convert to renewables and retrofit our infrastructure, so our kids world-wide, and future generations can live, and prosper. Joe Biden is so yesterday…
Gotta laugh at the hypocrisy of Biden supporting the Obama ACA Cadillac plan tax, due to kick in shortly, while arguing that these plans should be left out of paying for Medicare for all.
“What’s gonna happen when you have 300 million people landing on a healthcare plan. How long is that going to take? What’s it going to do?” Biden caterwauled in the recent CNN interview.
Of course, if Biden had READ the bill - or even the mere-10 page, clear-as-day, section-by-section summary of it…
…or if he had read the in-depth U Mass, Amherst PERI analysis of medicare for all - or even the super clear summary of it…
…the RIGHT LIBERAL FLAP-JAW LAZEBAG HAS-BEEN IGNORAMUS would have KNOWN the answers to those questions, NOW WOULDN’T HE???
Hey, can’t afford to acknowledge climate change, poison in agribusiness, theft in the financial markets, corruption in politics… can you say “cult” of predatory capitalism? Mammon or just plain whatever, the dollar has been sucked dry and now all are fair game as the prey. Those who benefit from the monopolization of every little thing know that folks are waking up and they are paying the real big bucks to the like Kelly an the Con - oops, guess her con got found out…
keep the pressure on for the long haul; form alliances and TIME TO BE LOVING AND CREATIVE
True. The MSM is telling us: ANYBODY BUT BERNIE!
Very interesting. I was not aware of this.
Policies gave the ownership away when they deregulated FCC or FCC deregulated media ownership and their was not consolidation of radio/TV/Print. Policies and carry out the laws of anti-trust.
Same with commodities futures they made it a casino gambling game for the billionaires.
The only way to get action on anti-trust is with Bernie or Tulsi in the WH (possibly Warren but I’d hate to lose her in the Senate or in a cabinet post). And of course. change SCOTUS to 13 and fill with Progressives. Biden or Harris or any of the other Corporate stooges will be Status Quo
Bernie - Tulsi 2020
“Unions understand that when they have to bargain for healthcare, they give up money that should be used for wages.”
This was exactly our experience where I work. We got cost-of-living increases, but they all went to pay for health care costs that were increasing faster. When you think about it, where is this $ going? To a bloated medico-industrial complex (paying administrative costs, metastasizing drug prices, competition for healthy clients that benefits no one, and super-salaries for those at the top, uber alles): Our raises went into someone else’s pocket.
