Several years ago, I asked the civil-rights lawyer Michael Ratner, who died Wednesday at age 72, whether he thought he had any chance of prevailing when, with the Center for Constitutional Rights, he sued George W. Bush in early 2002 on behalf of some of the first Guantánamo detainees. “None whatsoever,” he replied.
Thank you for the moving tribute, Mr. Cole. It's a shame that so many of us will learn of this man's humble greatness after his demise.
This is the kind of soul that does the likes of Gandhi proud.
RIP Michael Ratner. I well remember back in the 2003-2006 time period finding him (along with such reporters as Dahr Jamail) among the very few who were willing to speak the truth and challenge the propaganda put out by the Cheney/Bush administration and echoed by the MSM. Also, a nice eulogy/obituary by David Cole.
