Monsanto’s Glyphosate Blankets GMO Crops Near Schools

Mary Ellen Kustin, Soren Rundquist

Genetically engineered crops, or GMOs, have led to an explosion in growers’ use of herbicides, with the result that children at hundreds of elementary schools across the country go to class close by fields that are regularly doused with escalating amounts of toxic weed killers.

GMO corn and soybeans have been genetically engineered to withstand being blasted with glyphosate – an herbicide that the World Health Organization recently classified as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” The proximity of many schools to fields blanketed in the chemical puts kids at risk of exposure.

Organize and fight back! Among our best allies in resisting the mass pesticide and GMO corporations have been young parents. Talk to your friends, neighbors, co-workers, family. Chemical poisons on your children can be very effective at clearing your vision of corporate propaganda. Organize and fight back!

ADD:

Look up your local school board pesticide policies and practices, and go talk at their public meetings about protecting our children, from these chemicals, and from the chemical manufacturers.

DON'T FORGET HAWAII. It's not on your map, but this is ground zero for Monsanto, Dow, Sygenta's testing of chemicals on crops.......in massive amounts and combinations never tested before on plants, soil, water and least of all humans. This is where, on Molokai, children and teachers became so sick from spray testing next to the school that they closed the school for a time. This is the place where beautiful trade winds blow the sprays from test fields across neighborhoods and parks. This is the place where residents have voted against GMO use on 3 different islands, always to be held up in legal battles. This is the place where most recently citizens voted for a Moratorium on the open air testing of chemicals that affect us all only to have the local officials not validate the vote, not take a stand to support of the citizens vote in the legal battle that Monsanto initiated. Yes thanks for all your efforts to alert people to the GMO menace. And, don't forget Hawaii! Mahalo.
