Murdoch-Owned Media’s Radical Climate Denial in the Face of Disaster

Adam Johnson

A recent survey by progressive watchdog Public Citizen (9/12/17) on the media’s coverage of hurricanes Harvey and Irma confirms what’s long been known: Corporate media are indifferent to the causal relationship between climate change and extreme weather, and by far the worst offenders are the Rupert Murdoch–owned Fox News, Wall Street Journal and New York Post.

These are the days to remember when someday we look back and ask ourselves what should we have done or could have done - collectively as a species! It is then that the young will read these dismal facts and ask why we didn’t do anything to stop these people from lying.

Only some of us will be able to say that we tried.

Thank you Mr. Johnson for pulling back the curtain on the soulless wizards and their skillfully manipulated lies and pointing to the news media reporters standing there.

Yes yes, the fiddlers fiddle whilst Rome goes up in flames or is inundated by water in the case of the latest hurricanes. Or to use another meme, you can lead a horse to water…, I actually think horses have more sense than most of the professional liar class of politicians. Until the national tragedies affect them directly and personally. I was really hoping that Mar-a-Lago would take a direct hit from a class 5 hurricane, alas it apparently escaped disaster. And as Wereflea says above remember these days before TSHTF because it’s coming, soon I believe. I like watching CSI Miami and Burn Notice on Netflix and see all the expensive property that’s essentially 3-7 feet above sea level. These shows may be a good record of what was in the near future. We average citizens that actually know how bad it’s getting watch in disgust and horror unfolding on an almost daily basis. Remembering that Earth’s climate is slightly above 1C and going higher every year we can expect things to get progressively worse with large swathes of people displaced due to rising oceans or drought plagued famines. I don’t know what else to do as they’ve had 40+ years to do something, yet did nothing expecting the destruction from industrial capitalism to magically go poof. Time’s up and the notes are coming due and Earth has mighty powerful entities that will break more than legs or arms.

The sad thing is that the innocent will suffer along with the guilty in the years ahead. In fact the guilty (1%) will likely suffer less than will the innocent.

Nevertheless, there is no escaping for anybody.

Good luck kiddies!

Rupert Murdoch Is Deviant Scum

Dr. Zimbardo - author of “The Elephant in the Room” and part of Duty to Warn, looks at the phenomenon of political appeal to the ‘shadow side’.

Seems to me we all struggle with the ‘shadow side’ as counterpoint to ‘promises’ and ‘hope’ - framing of how we consider the future.

I would argue that we are living through a period where rather than the “deals” arrogantly shoved down the throat by Trump, there is a very real struggle to articulate the ‘right questions’. Given the shadow swamp of corporatism, we are now in a period of profoundly twisted mutual resonance of grievances and denials between neo-liberal ‘government’ and constantly manipulated disaffected/disenfranchised/alienated populations.

We are being denied the right to participate in governance by every manipulation possible and Murdoch, as well as other media moguls, flips the causal reality and doubles down on constant gooseing of shadow narratives and snide cynicism.

Fox News is a cancer that has metastasized over the last 2 decades, to the point of possibly damaging our social discourse permanently. It is dangerous to an extreme degree in terms of its ability to convince a huge percentage of our population to blindly believe an alternate reality.

I will not watch it or listen to it. I will not knowingly patronize its sponsors. I will not do business with an establishment which has its television tuned to Fox. Ever. Period!

“Amplifying effects on extreme weather events, Murdoch’s media empire, the Republican Party their talking points inform, will remain the last holdout. The nominally respectable Wall Street Journal, Murdoch’s but ten years now, publishes snarky glib editorials on these issues.”
(edited, felt repeated article quote didn’t finish intent.)

Denialism at its core is what?
To deny practical solutions?
To deny inter-social dependency?
To fondle the fraudulence of self-driving car nonsense?
To stare at your cell phone and other screens even more?
Learn to speak robot? Quote Hal, “I can’t do that, Dave.”

Normalizing Trump is not the main course - normalizing the irrationality that has dominated for decades is the big enchilada.
Bad is good and good is bad, not noticing- we all been had.
Polarizing, irrationalizing reflects in the cultural mirror as rational and knowledgeable.
Democracy no democracy - no big deal.
Unjust justice - well , there’s precedent.
Monetary policy - only the overlords know in their secrecy. But, an interest rate adjustment is ‘surely needed’.
Normalized deviance has ruled for decades.
Wake up.
When did sleeping become wakefulness?

While nobody can say what the exact role of climate change was in these two hurricanes it should be common knowledge to all Americans that the effects of these storms can be amplified by rising sea levels making the storm surge higher than it would have been otherwise, a warmer atmosphere can hold more water vapor, and warmer oceans provide more energy for storms. Conversely, if climate change increases wind shear it can reduce the power of these storms. I would say of most concern is rising sea levels. Only a small rise in sea level can dramatically increase the vulnerability of some coastal areas to storm surge. Predictions for sea level rise in the coming decades vary but there is a good possibility of several feet of additional sea rise this century. It would completely irresponsible to ignore this.

“I don’t know what else to do as they’ve had 40+ years to do something, yet did nothing expecting the destruction from industrial capitalism to magically go poof.”

Possibly we might consider large marches in the streets to end wars, close all of our overseas bases and “outposts”, bring home all of our troops, cut the mic and spy budgets drastically, throw out the current do nothing establishment government and put all the monetary savings into new research, technology and development of new renewable energy sources, uses and jobs. 40 years of waiting for our more and more useless government to develop a leadership in this largest, solveable crises ever to face life on Earth is 30 years too long. Does anyone out there have any confidence in government any longer? All we hear is be a good citizen and vote! Vote for what, I say!

Add to that: the carbon soaks and oxygen producers are being cut and acidified; rainforests and oceans.

Too bad our great leader did not call Fox News " FAKE NEWS" BECAUSE FOR ONCE HE WOULD HAVE TOLD THE TRUTH!

BB is what again?
SS I can understand.
Down with herr Twitler’s SS. (SickassholeS)
ABC NEWS: "Twitler is like a sunflower."
Flowers should need only water and soil.
If flower he be, he is a carnivorous flytrap,
sucking lives’ juices.

He’s also a PIG in a WIG, an orange wig,
orange the new blackest black.
A pork-fed casino mob boss,
making deals with also fat international cohorts,
on golf courses at cheesy hi-rise motels.
Trump is an opera of players all squealing,
“Nuthin happened. I didn’t do it.”

Great video.
Culture is our operating system.
Our operating system is the creation of human minds.
Humanity can create an operating system that works for the majority slight_smile:
Actual disk cleaners are required - ignore the distorted literalism of mere psychoactive ingestion while cultivating wisdom and compassion benefiting all by reclaiming a sane social consciousness.
Cheers.
