NATO Rattles Sabers as Russia Escalates in Syria

Andrea Germanos, staff writer

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Thursday that the military alliance agreed to beef up its forces in the face of what he called a "troubling escalation of Russian military activities" in Syria.

"We are implementing the biggest reinforcement of our collective defense since the end of the Cold War," Stoltenberg said ahead of his meeting with defense ministers in Brussels.

So based on Nato's logic. Russia, China and Iran should be able to place thousands of there troops into Syria. Due to the thousands of times Nato has violated Syria airspace.

#5

And what do you suggest he do, start a Nuclear war with Russia over Syria?

#6

"This sends a clear message to all NATO citizens: NATO will defend you.
NATO is on the ground. NATO is ready," Stoltenberg said after the
meeting.

Tangle with the Russians and you will get your ass kicked hard with a side of embarrassment. What will be the message to the Nato citizen then?

#7

Well it always has been a good tactic to use war to take the sheeples' minds off of the corruption and failures of their rulers.

#8

Incredible! Russia invades, lies about going after ISIL, and wages war to defend a faltering fascist regime and its' military bases in Syria.

But where is the anger directed? Not at Putin, not at Russia, not at Assad, but at the "saber rattling" response
to those transgressions!

#9

Western hypocrisy and outright panic is accelerating in the USA. Washington is totally bewildered about what to do next. Meanwhile, the Russian military has, in the space of a week, cleared the way for an Iranian ground invasion in Syria on behalf of Assad. Once that's finished which, if recent events are any indication, should be in about two weeks , the entire campaign will shift to Iraq, where the US will either need to confront Russia or simply pack up and leave. I suggest they will pack up and leave, they would not stand a chance. Too bad the USA cannot have a leader like Putin!!

#10

Russia is flexing its muscles and the big dog doesn't like that. Its liable to burn down the place and everyone in it.

#11

Lemme throw out a few words out there about the Democratic Party: WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam.

natureboy, your line about the "big dog" sounds pretty similar to what Gen. Curtis LeMay (WW II strategic bombing war criminal) told JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis --- that "you can't let the big Red Dog dig in our backyard" --- but luckily it turned out OK once Kennedy and Khrushchev opened back-channel communications man to man and muzzled the hard-right and mad war dogs on each side.

Putin certainly knows about the unsustainable nature of Empire and he might have something to bolster and teach Obama about climbing down out of that dangerous rotted tree.

For his sake, I don't even pretend to have any sense that Obama might 'grow some' and expose the Empire while he's still in office, but he ought to at least have the cojones to "go Bulworth" (as he had presumably said once) and at least do an Ike 'MIC moment' on leaving office, but expand from what Ike said to what Ike couldn't understand then --- that the US is actually only the nominal HQ, and faux-democratic mask, of this dual-party Vichy-political facade of Global Empire.

Sweet Dreams, but probably only dreams, eh?

Anyway, natureboy, the way you said it the collar is on the wrong dog, since the next-to-the-last Empire on earth has already slipped the Empire leash, and we are the only dog in this one dog fight.

NATO Rattles Sabers as Russia gets it done in Syria.

NATO head says alliance is 'implementing the biggest escalation of our collective ofence capabilities since the end of the Cold War.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Thursday that the military alliance agreed to beef up its forces in the face of what he called a "troubling escalation of Russian military activities" in Syria that are going to prevent NATO ffrom removing the democratically elected President of Syria.ar," Stoltenberg said ahead of his meeting with defense ministers in Brussels.

The defense ministers agreed to set up two NATO units in Hungary and Slovakia to add further threats to Russia, and gave the ok to doubling its Response Force to 40,000. "We now have everything in place to make the Response Force stronger, faster and more capable, Nato must do this to counter all the wars and regime changes that Russia is doing," Stoltenberg said.

"This sends a clear message to all NATO citizens: NATO will defend you. NATO is on the ground. NATO is ready," Stoltenberg said after the meeting. NATO will quickly send these forty thousand combat troops to any and all NATO members fearful of Russian threats.

Russia is accused of deliberately violating the surprise extensions of Turkish airspace this past weekend. On Wednesday Russia launched 26 cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea at ISIS targets in Syria. Turkey and western officials have accused Russia of targeting with those strikes not ISIS but other rebel forces particularly those being paid to remove the legitimate government in Syria.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Wednesday in Istanbul, "We would not want any tensions with Russia, but it is our right as a neighbor to expect Russia to respect Turkey’s airspace and borders and to respect Turkey’s interests in Syria," Last time I checked Russia was operating in Syria at the invitation from the legitimate Government, and in full compliance of International laws; what gives NATO the right to question this?

Stoltenberg told reporters, “NATO is able and ready to defend all allies, including Turkey, against any threat."

What are you talking about invades what? And I'm pretty sure Assad isn't a fascist. Assad and Russia are defending Syria from the Emperor of Chaos, foreign head chopping islamic terrorist that have destroyed Syria and are responsible for a large chunk of the 250.000 people dead from this war. You sound like a Neo-con sock puppet.

#17

I am not aware of any NATO type defensive agreement between Syria, Iran, Russia and China. NATO agreement article 5 states attack on one member is an attack on all members. This is why NATO is increasing defense of Turkey. Attack on Syria does not trigger automatic war status for China, Iran or Russia.

#18

My understanding is that both Russia and Iran have a Nato type defensive pack with Syria. And why is it Nato is allowed to violate international law by flying into Syrian airspace thousands
of times? On the other hand Russia makes one or two incursion into Turkish airspace. Only because Turkey decides to move the goal post. And imposes a buffer no fly zone five miles into Syria. Which is also illegal under international law. There seems to be a double stand going on here.

#19

Madashellron left out 4 million Syrians in essence forced into exile.

#20

It was the same group of NWO countries (Emperors of Chaos) that also destroyed Libya and Iraq by hiring Islamic Terrorist. And created this refugee crisis that your talking about.

#21

Rather like the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava. That saved Turkey . Does the USA have a spare Colonel Custer?

#22

Please sir, what regime changes are being done by Russia?

#23

May i opt out from this selfless gesture to defend me?

#24

He's turned around. He's so used to the stories of the old USSR overthrowing nations that when it's now obvious that it's the USA which is going around overthrowing nations that he's blaming others for what his favourite nation is doing.

But, if the NDP wins in Canada this month you can be sure the communists will be blamed for that; and whoever is behind Southpark will prove prescient as Canada becomes the next target for regime change.
