NATO Summit Plans Belie Claims that It Doesn't Want New Cold War

Nika Knight, staff writer

On the first day of this weekend's NATO summit in Warsaw, Poland, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg assured the public, "We don't want a new Cold War. The Cold War is history and should remain history."

Yet Stoltenberg seemed to simultaneously defy that claim when he also announced that NATO's "response force" is now three times larger than it was during the Cold War—further stoking fears that NATO's recent saber-rattling may herald a new major war with Russia.

NATO needs a new cold war in order to have something to point its finger at to justify its existence and all the tax money required to fund its social get-togethers. Without such justification, NATO is obsolete. Maybe COBRA Command will make an appearance!

That phuck Carter is merely reiterating the play book that they've been using since 2000. The PNAC document Strategies for Rebuilding America's Defenses laid bare the MIC's intent to militarize to the point where several major theater wars could be waged simultaneously. (And amazingly they expect that they would "win.") Do the Europeans realize that the North American continent is not one of the theaters where they anticipate to call forth this Armageddon?

NATO has continued its march East and is now right on the Russian borders in several places. Russia, understandably, doesn't want a hostile military alliance with missiles on its doorstep. Remember what the US response was to having Soviet missiles installed in Cuba? NATO, the media and Western governments are engaging in the most blatant hypocrisy when they think that it is OK to push Russia into a corner. Russia knows how to sacrifice 50 million citizens --they've done it before. Do we really want into that game?

Putin: US / NATO is irreversibly pushing the world towards nuclear war
And from the MSM all we hear is the sound of silence.

"Does anyone in the reeking garbage heap that is mainstream western media have a conscience? Do they even have enough intellect to get what Putin is saying - that they are helping to push the planet towards World War III?"
* The answer to that is "No." Very few see anything but sensationalism.
* The Fourth Reich has been fighting and trying to suppress small nations all over the world. Cities are laid waste, tens of millions of refugees have been forced to flee, The MICC has seen its profits increase beyond their greediest dreams.
* The Pentagon has had a wet dream of nuclear war with Russia since about 1947. They wanted it to happen when the Cuban incident came into play. Fortunately Kennedy and Khrushchev saw the handwriting on the wall and still had enough power to rein in their military hawks. Of course, we know what happened to them.
* Since, with all its power, the Reich cannot win a guerilla war, it wants to go back to its main plan, full scale war with major countries. Billions dead instead of millions. Much or most of humanity and other living things sick and dying of radiation around the world.
* And in their bunkers far underground, they will be dancing and saying, "Boy, we sure showed 'em, didn't we!"
* The presumptive appointee to Fuehrer of the Fourth Reich is eagerly awaiting the chance to light this up. Apparently it is worth it to "go out in a blaze of glory."
* Not in my book, it isn't. I have seen nothing in the Reich that shows a desire for peace, other than the "peace" of "Full Spectrum Domination" of the World through military and financial means. They want that so badly, even if it means killing off the planet to do so.
* For me, that is a pretty good diagnosis of insanity. Unfortunately, the inmates seem to be in charge of the asylum.

Perhaps Putins speech in which he asked the West, " Do You Realize What You Have Done" Is also a metaphor of things to come.

Maybe the time as come. To organize an antiwar group that goes to Washington to meet with Representatives(soulless creatures). To stop all this craziness to have a hot war with Russia and China. I think it's time they heard from us in large numbers. Any suggestions on a Antiwar Organization that might be interested in this idea.? Please
let me know.

Putin is a KGB thug, whose multiple invasions reveal his dreams of empire. A show of resolve and massive force is the most peaceful answer to such bullies.

He will of course be paying people to post every where on the net. Expect nonsense on his behalf.

And who's paying you to post this nonsense your posting?

What a snow job. This is nothing more than a scam to pump up the profits of the military industrial congressional (campaign) complex. Russia is a ricky oligarchy complex that wants to hang out with their rich American cousins and sell a little gas and oil to the Europeans......wherein lies the real problem. NATO is about as useless as a tooth ache.

By the "Fourth Reich" do you mean the New World Order boys? This is not a set up for a new 'cold war'. This is the set up for a nuclear war that may end all life on earth." John V. Walsh is correct to say, "Under the euphemism of 'containment', the U.S. is relentlessly advocating its new cold war on Russia and China. Paul Craig Roberts today said, "No greater threat to life has ever existed than the government of the United States."

Putin is not going to wait to be attacked. He is a lot sharper than our military 'experts'. We damn well better stop poking the Russian Bear.

Never saw anyone looking for a fight than our Nobel winning president and his lapdogs over at Nato.

His guts, our kid's blood.

Yes indeed, Smerl, you just can't make this shit up regarding weapons and NRA:

What an obvious HUUUGE irony it was for our president, in Poland to
celebrate NATO's purchase and installation of more provocative 'missile
systems' [big guns] in Eastern Europe, had to start his NATO meeting
with an apology (with near tears), that the NRA's [small arms] caused
THREE tragedies in Minneapolis, Baton Rouge, and Dallas, while he is
acting as a virtual salesman for the [big guns] so-called 'defense
contractors' [actually massive global weapons makers or "Merchants of
Death"] --- all while the American public is deaf, dumb, and blind to
the FACT that the pissant little domestic small arms manufacturers and
poor-house NRA members can't possibly be funding the apparent NRA
PR/propaganda and lobbying efforts, but certainly have a marketing
'message' --- "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy
with a bigger gun" --- which is a thousand times more valuable PR
message to the 1000 times more profitable "Merchants of Death" (Boeing,
Lockheed, Raytheon, et al.) and their 70% global market share of
"Missiles, Fighter Planes, Nuclear Bombs, etc." than the pissant little
dumb NRA members and the nearly bankrupt little U.S. small arms

Get an effin clue, people.

What the effin little NRA does for gun nuts and small arms makers domestically is a piss hole in the snow.

What NRA's hidden support from the "Merchants of Death" does for the Trillion $ per year [big gun] industry is the real key!!

The Marketing message of 'fear' and demand of "The only way to stop a bad
guy with a gun, is a good guy with BILLIONS of Big Weapons" is where the
rubber really hits the road.

This EMPIRE only 'posing' as our former country is actually the HQ of the biggest Disguised Global Capitalist EMPIRE in world history ---- or as Laurence Shoup calls it the neoliberal geopolitical capitalist-classes' EMPIRE of chaos,
looting, exploitation, destruction, and ultimate bankruptcy.

"This CFR worldview and grand strategy— the defining political and economic
paradigm of our era— is neoliberal, “free market,” corporate
globalization, together with a combination of geographically oriented
political and economic thinking and action at the level of global power
politics, summed up by the term geopolitics. For the purpose of analysis
in this chapter, the neoliberal and geopolitical policy frameworks are
kept distinct, but they are united in actual practice as neoliberal
geopolitics. At the level of grand strategy and goals, neoliberalism as a
system of exploitation and as an ideology, the history of how the CFR
and its members helped create neoliberalism, and the geopolitical and
geoeconomic strategies for global implementation as outlined by key
Council intellectuals, will be discussed. At the level of tactics, the
role of “small wars,” “soft power,” and the U.S. government as Goliath
will be examined.

And as Professor Robinson concurs:

"The U.S. state is a key point of condensation for pressures from dominant
groups around the world to resolve problems of global capitalism and to
secure the legitimacy of the system overall. In this regard, “U.S.”
imperialism refers to the use by transnational elites of the U.S. state
apparatus to continue to attempt to expand, defend, and stabilize the
global capitalist system. We are witness less to a “U.S.” imperialism
per se than to a global capitalist imperialism. We face an EMPIRE OF
GLOBAL CAPITAL, headquartered, for evident historical reasons, in
[Caps substituted for italics in the original]Robinson, William 2014 "Global Capitalism and the Crisis of Humanity" Cambridge University Press

Of Course, none of the EMPIRE's 'media/propaganda-sector' leading liars
even noticed or reported the massive irony of Obama's war-weapons
sales-call on NATO and Eastern Europe today having to be preceded by his
apology (with near tears in eyes) for the unexpected ugliness in
Minneapolis, Baton Rouge, and Dallas with NRA supported small arms

“The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy
with a bigger gun" (or Missile System) --- the synergistic (and
dangerous) link between the little small arms industry and their
thousands times bigger brothers in war industry ‘defense contractor’
giant transnational MIC "Merchants of Death" weapons corporations.

From this NYT story, "The alliance is expected to declare that the initial
phase of its missile-defense system is finally operational. And the
leaders are scheduled to discuss ways to deter members from
cyberattacks, having elevated cyberwarfare to the same status as air,
land and naval warfare."

From this WaPo story:

After the Dallas shootings, Obama once again offered
condolences to the families of the dead. He spoke generally of the need
for reforms to America’s gun laws, which last month prompted sit-ins by
Democratic lawmakers in the Congress demanding change.

“We also know when people are armed with powerful weapons, it makes events like
these more deadly and more tragic, and we are going to have to consider
those realities,” Obama said.

At least it won’t be Obama (nor this Congress) who has to “offer condolences” to the families of the dead when Europe lights up like Dallas, eh?

A friend who has been doing business in Poland since before the fall of the Soviet Union tells me that as much as the Poles distrust the Russians their real fear now is that American saber-rattling (by way of NATO, of course) will provoke a deadly confrontation, they'll be caught in the middle, and then the US and NATO will back down leaving them in the lurch.

The problem is they've seen Obama "draw a red line" in Syria, then back down when the Russians interevened. And they saw the US ramp up tensions in Ukraine, provoking a bloody civil war, then walk away when Russia annexed Crimea.

"It can be dangerous to be an enemy of the US, even more dangerous to be a 'friend'."

Does anyone realize that NATO has quite a number of members who have a history of invading Russia and killing her people in illegal wars? The U. S., Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Romania are all NATO members and all have attacked Russia, not in their own defense, which constitutes, by definition, illegal war. The Russians, I am sure, do know their own history and see that old bunch of killers back on their borders and heavily armed.

Ditto that. I will march for NO MORE WAR. Tell me when and where.

According to Ward Churchill and some others, there is no such thing as an innocent American citizen. According to his thinking it would be right and appropriate if every American citizen died in the nuclear holocaust. ...

Wow. You've bought the 'party line' (either one) hook, line and sinker. Why on earth are you posting on This site.

Wait for it to get worse. That is axiomatic under a Clinton presidency. I have no doubt she will win - by hook or by crook - Republicans are supporting her in droves. It is perfectly safe for Sanders supporters to vote their conscience.
