Not Saying the Words "John McCain" Is Least Vile Thing About Trump's Signing of $717 Billion Military Spending Bill

Jake Johnson, staff writer

The 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) President Donald Trump signed into law during a jingoistic ceremony at Fort Drum on Monday authorizes $22 billion in spending for nuclear weapons that could wipe out the human species, 77 new F-35 fighter jets, and $717 billion in military funding overall, but the corporate media apparently decided that the worst part about Trump signing this "

From the article:

“… the $717 billion military spending bill was supported by 40 Democrats in the Senate and 139 Democrats in the House.”

And yet the strongest objection the “Resistance” can raise is that it fails to bestow sufficient honor on the war-criminal, fatally sophomoric prankster and S&L grifter John McCain??? His brain tumor is the least malignant thing about him.

And where are the Usual Suspects to tell us, once again, patiently, to hold our noses and vote D?

As many others have written (excluding the MSM and generally complicit corporate media) there is 'no money" for public education and free higher Ed, universal not-for-profit Single Payer health care, the environmental crises, clean water or air, rebuilding Puerto Rico and other victims of natural disasters, protections of critical habitat, our agricultural pollinators, infant and elder care…on and on. But $717 Billion - that’s $717 Thousand Millions - to spend on war and the deaths and displacement of millions! Not to mention all those billion dollar plus contracts to build the instruments of death and endless war!

No money for all the things that make a nation truly “great”…the wealth is concentrated to buy politicians, nominations, elections, representation, and legislation that legalizes the enormous theft from society and vast profits for the few, the $717 thousand Million represents! Of course all those weapons must be used to create the demand for more and more obscene profits by and for the depraved…!

Our so-called “leaders” are criminals and liars, serving the depraved vision of life on earth and some twisted view of what an “economy” is…and should be!

Another day, another grand larceny against We the People of the United States, as the Military Industrial Congressional Complex drains our treasury in pursuance of global domination and imperialism. Truly an obscenity.

When “maniacal consumption” can’t keep up with production of so many useless goods then there is always the military. It is the “perfect” safety valve for a escalating authoritarian government led by submissive politicians with no alternatives except of course, take to the streets. We’re not there yet…

Many of the “Usual Suspects” are over on Democratic Underground, the site whose name is so hypocritical. They are still very big for “Weathervane” Hillary over there as well as the Democratic establishment. They still talk shit about Sanders, Stein, the Green Party and they hate Glenn Greenwald.
Both of my “liberal” senators from Washington state voted for this obscenity and President Bone Spurs has made lots of favorable press with this abomination pandering to the rubes. Hey, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell - you just can’t stay away from that Pentagon money can you? Principles be damned.
Our military which the Orange Anus insists has to be rebuilt has a budget as large as the next ten national militaries combined. In this respect and several others we are following the decline of the Roman Empire very closely. Mark Twain said it well -
“History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme.”

Starting with her vote supporting NAFTA a quarter century ago, Murray’s voting record speaks for itself. Cantwell’s record isn’t much better.

Recall Seattle journalist Knute Berger more than two decades ago noting that “the highest priority for Washington State politicians is carrying water for Boeing”. Despite Boeing relocating headquarters from Seattle to Chicago in 2000 and increasingly relocating manufacturing away from the west coast ever since, Berger’s comment continues to hold water.

It’s time to bring back the anti-war marches. And the first one should be on the day of trump’s obscene military parade.

“Nobody ever calls massive increases in military spending unrealistic” because Congresscritters NEVER DISCUSS increasing military budgets. Democrats just rubber stamp them while Republicans throw in more taxpayers’ money than the Pentagon even requests.

On the other hand, trying to just maintain “domestic” programs like Medicare and Social Security are discussed to death before they are cut.

Both my Minnesota Senators (Democratic/Women) voted for the bill. It is Primary day in MN. One Senator was appointed by Gov. Dayton, the other sat silent while Al Franken was uncerimoniously kangaroo-courted out of office. I will be voting for anyone but Senator Tina Smith today.

We can think of sooooo many better ways to spend $717 billion but since Amerika is, for all intensive purposes, a Congressional, military, war profiteering, industrial dictatorship this will never change until the 99% get their country back.

When will the American public finally realize the war racket con!

And to me the brainwashing will go on and on until the MSM quits calling this egregious budget : " A DEFENSE SPENDING BILL" and changes the narrative and the lie that this budget is to protect the average American, citizen WHEN NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!

It needs to be called what it is: A WAR RACKET BILL!

Make no mistake!
Trump’s economic shakedown is to GUARANTEE that his “base” is left with no choice other than to cheer full jacket militarization. This is the investment that he was put into office to secure. The [construct] of his “administration” is just being held at the brink of self-destruction … waiting for the button to be pushed when the job is done. The sheer fetishization of guns over human interaction is turned into the straight jacket of left-right as theater.

The pressure must be kept up with constant twists, because people are finding alternative narratives and terms and documentation of this sick tangent - of which Trump is only the most recent malformation. His job has been to do precisely this.

trumps is a tool of special interests including the military which he, of course, avoided when it was his time to serve; and, I guess everyone including sponsor of this obscene amount of spending forgot that the war-like johnny McCain voted to cut veterans benefits a few years back!! so we send our guys to wars for control of oil, poppy fields or god knows what and then when they come home after 2,3 or 4 tours, you cut their benefits!!! maybe its me but that’s not right

The “all volunteer” military is a tool of the MICC war-machine - a group that can be easily and effectively brainwashed to serve the state and whatever or whoever controls it - far more malleable than a universal draft military including children of wealth! easily lied-to and fed the jingoist narrative why - why “we” are attacking and destroying culture after culture…“who controls the military” would be vast wealth, the “defense” (euphemistic BS!) industry, endless for-profit war, waged under the guise of defense, at the direction of a pathological nutter prez at present, but goes far deeper than his tenure.

A world-wide network of obscene military, Pentagon spending (and the billions/trillions hidden) to threaten ad dominate all other states on earth, and destroy any with the temerity to stand-up to corporate war America and its demands…all while our “leaders” claim they have “no money” for civilian societal priorities for the 99%!

I guess that $717 Billion includes the 38 Billion (**38,000 Million **) “military aid package” (not including what’s hidden or “forgiven” loans!) to Apartheid Israel - how about some “forgiven loans” for our damn students drowning in debt!?

The BDS movement should/must include tribute cloaked as “military aid” to our zionist masters…BDS and much more is discussed in this very informative essay - a very good read.

Well-said, as usual, but I have one minor quibble: I don’t believe that there was ever a time when the children of wealth couldn’t buy their way out of compulsory military service (Exhibit A in this century is Cadet Bone Spurs, but accounts of the US Civil War reveal this is nothing new). Unless and until ALL citizens are included, conscription is a Bad Idea.

Absolutely agree Robert…wealth and/or connections have usually kept the sons and daughters of wealth out of military service, especially out of harms way in war. In some families such service especially in WWII was a badge of honor.

A non-discriminatory draft military would likely radically change the penchant for war and Congressional rubber-stamp, especially among those who had to send their own kids to kill and be killed…

I’ve often thought that G.H.W. Bush’s service in WW2 was his dad Prescott’s way of red-white-and-bluewashing those brown shirts in his closet.
