The Times spends a great deal of time trying to market itself as not being the rubber stamp pro-war outlet it manifestly is.
So very true, thank you Adam Johnson for writing what I have been thinking for many years.
NYT is a shameful mouthpiece for the military industrial complex and the status quo of the fraudulent Global War On Terror.
Also, when the USA invaded Cuba and the Philippines during the Spanish-American Way, it was to help those countries throw off the yoke of Spanish colonization and to “spread freedom and democracy”. Look how well that turned out. The USA ended up committing huge numbers of human atrocities and human rights violations.
When a nation, an Empire such as the United States occupies another country with it’s military forces, either with or without that country’s government’s blessing, segments of that country’s population revolt and therein Terrorism is created.
The United States of America is the greatest purveyor of violence and Terrorism on the planet Earth today.
Those who enable these actions through cheerleading and inaccurate reporting of the facts such as all of the various forms of media, and are complicit with the Military Industrial Complex, do so because they are instructed to by the Oligarchs who own them.
We the People must educate our fellow citizens and unite them against the lies our government uses to create division in our citizenry.
Prepare yourself for War, the War our government has against Truth.
“The Times acts not as an outside voice holding power to account, but as US empire’s internal compliance officer—there to warn of excesses and problems around the margins, but always with the best interest of their NatSec client at heart.”
This is the best characterization of the NYT (and much of the mainstream media) I have heard to date. The rhetoric of news outlets about these wars allows Americans to continue to believe that all our wars are only fought because we have no other choice in the matter. And the fact that we outspend every other country on defense by such a huge margin is then implicitly more evidence of our generosity and self-sacrifice. We have taken the mentality we had during the first two world wars and stitched it on to every conflict we have been engaged in since Korea, and now we have more people dying from the opioid epidemic every three weeks than we had as a result of 9/11.
Johnson’s article is real reporting.
" American presidents who took military action have been driven by the desire to promote freedom and democracy."
Translation: American presidents who have been nothing but stooges for the MIC, were told to take military action in order to protect the vested interests of the economic, elite and have used the most egregious lie and worn out canard of promoting freedom and democracy.
NYT, along with WaPo, MSNBC, etc., is the more dangerous of the many types of Fake News.
Stuff like Fox News is so obvious & clumsy, resembling Nazi or Stalinist propaganda. Whereas NYT & their ilk are able to seem ‘reasonable’ to all my liberal friends, who always seem to fall for the ‘we must help those poor people’ BS which always precedes bombing the sh!t out of a nation.
Operation Mockingbird at work.
