How many voting citizens know how much CO2 and heat the oceans have been absorbing?
About as many who will be voting for Jill Stein I would imagine - i.e., not enough.
The "Tragedy of the Commons" is ignorance - pure and simple.
But the cause of this profound disconnect from the natural world is not pure and simple - unless perhaps we blame 'civilization' itself.
For the few who are trying to stay in touch, I just read a brilliant exposition on the 'father of environmentalism', and this book has my highest recommendation:
"The Invention of Nature - Alexander von Humboldt's New World",
by Andrea Wulf.
How could I have not known more about this man - inspiration for Charles Darwin, John Muir, Henry David Thoreau, Louis Agassiz, and a host of others???
