Four weeks into the largest nationwide strike by oil plant workers in 36 years, the fight over critical safety standards in a deadly industry has grown even larger, with the movement now including 15 plants and 6,500 workers.
I wonder how much of the management strategy is dependent on a public divided by the already deadly consequences of the oil industry's practices and policies. No capacity to clean up after massive industry failures due to the same sorts of policies being faced by employees.
As much as I have eliminated oil dependency from my life, its claws continue their deadly displays in it every day.
Gratitude to the workers - your safety and holding the line means much more than is being discussed. Anywhere that accountability is demanded and fought for, society benefits from, regardless of how much I loathe the industry.
Thank you. Strength and solidarity for a better future.
