Just as with the Patriot act which had been in the works prior to 9/11 and under the eye of Joe Biden , these new Domestic terrorism laws being proposed are not new.

They were being worked on in November before this last riot.

Guess who was behind that proposal back in November? None other then Joe Biden.

t hat quote did not age well, indeed it was wrong from the moment it went to print. Because, as it turns out, there has actually been “talk of legislation” for weeks – even months. Soon-to-be-President Joe Biden promised a new “domestic terrorism bill” back in November, [according to the Wall Street Journal]

Apparently Joe is a seer. Perhaps he examined the entrails of some crow both prior to 9/11 and to this riot and started work on these bills knowing full well what was coming.

Isn’t that the goal after all? Allow mayhem, riots run amok, then use that to restrict freedom? Yes! Just like the Patriot Act.

Yes I agree new domestic terror laws are needed…to stop the biggest terrorist in the world…OUR U.S. GOVERNMENT TERRORISTS!

Here we go. The real reason a protest was allowed to become an “insurrection”.

…and the Left. We have domestic laws to deal with all manner of lawbreaking. We don’t need more in this instance. We only need the will to enforce the laws we have. Reject this power play, Congress, if you are capable of not making things worse.

Capable, yes. Willing? Not unless it increases their personal power and wealth.

The USGOV is the enemy of the 99%.
The Establishment and their house of whores will protect the SYSTEM of institutionalized White supremacy at all costs.

The “investigation” will be a joke and the Establishment will once again take away our freedoms in their effort to prop up their failed Authoritarian White Supremacy Oligarchic State.

Long Past Time to Prepare and Organize.

A popular Twitter video includes the rant of a Jan 6 coup participant, who discovered in the airport that he’s on the “no-fly list” as a terrorist.
That noted, the First Amendment of the Constitution includes the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Five dead on January 6 probably doesn’t count as a peaceable assembly.

Well, Biden and Harris are just the ones to do it, so heads up.

“The notorious Patriot Act, passed in the wake of 9/11 attacks with Biden’s support, …”

This isn’t completely honest either, it wasn’t with “Biden’s support”, it was Biden’s bill, re-written from his 1995 version. He lied back then too, claiming he wrote it after the OK. City bombing, but that event was in April, 1995, and the bill was released in Feb. 1995.

There are those who are seeking to equate dissent with disloyalty and lawlessness. It’s a dark day in our nation when high-level authorities will seek to use every method to silence dissent, but there are also those who corrupt the public mind with lies and deceit and are just as evil as those who steal from the public purse, they need to be dealt with.

Me, and family members of mine, have been personally attacked by right wing fanatics. Many Trump supporter express visceral hatred of my Black and Brown brothers and sisters.

But, I am absolutely opposed to the draconian measures Democrats are suggesting to crack down on them _https://theintercept.com/2021/01/10/capitol-hill-riot-domestic-terrorism-legislation/. Trump tried to push through such a law, in his effort to ban BLM _https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2020/6/13/a-domestic-terror-law-could-quash-political-dissent-in-the-us

Further, I am opposed to the sense that folk should be “hunted down” and censored _https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/police-vow-hunt-down-every-23278169 _http://www.christianitydaily.com/articles/10467/20210109/big-tech-censorship-president-donald-trump-supporters-banned-from-twitter-facebook.htm

The mob that broke into the Capitol is only of fraction of folk who share those sentiments. Even if each and every one were arrested and summarily executed on the DC mall, it wouldn’t have stop Trump supporters from holding their sentiments and planning violent actions in the future. On the contrary, folk will be driven under ground where they will continue to plan for, perhaps, another Oklahoma City type bombing and a Trump 2.0 victory in 2024.

Rather seeking to use State violence to respond to the Capitol mob, and Trump supporters, we need more of a South African type ‘truth and reconciliation’ process. We need to reach out to the Capitol mob and Trump supporters to begin to create social bonds. Sure as heck its not easy. But the reality is that many of the white racist Trump supporters, including folk who have attacked me in the past, have more in common with Black and Brown folk like me, than the ruling plutocrats be they Trump, Biden, or any of the plutocratic rulers of the Republican/Democrat Parties.

If we really do try for a domestic terrorism law, we should wait until well into the administration.
What happened Wednesday won’t be affected (except by current law.)
Investigate the whole thing and sort it out.
Covid response. Climate crisis. Those new energy jobs. Infrastructure legislation.

Somewhat OT (but it is interrelated imo)

Anybody want to take a guess as to how Chris Hedges (who I respect and value very much) can rationalize using the Twitter platform give his feelings about how dangerous these platforms are?

Listened to Democracy Now this morning and his words (as always) are very powerful, wise and alarming.

But yet . . . . he posted on Twitter this morning.

???

I want to understand this. Talk about more crazy making and . . . . would cognitive dissonance fit here?

And of course we’ve discussed the fact that you can’t comment on Counterpunch unless you do so through face book or twitter.
