On the Road From Protest to Power: A Rising Tide

On the Road From Protest to Power: A Rising Tide

Isaiah Poole

The millions who gathered in Washington and around the country for the historic Women’s March, one day after Donald Trump’s inauguration, made an indisputable statement: Trump may have won the presidency, but he did not win a mandate to govern.

The GOP’s big problem is they failed to come up with a credible alternative to the ADA after seven years of trying. All of their bills would have left millions without healthcare. So now we will see if the will finally act like adults by conceding that the failed to find an alternative and work with the Democrats to fix the ADA or will they continue to act like spoiled brats who didn’t get their way.

You might have missed the point of the ACA battle. It’s not that they couldn’t come up with an alternative, it’s that they didn’t want to come up with anything. They wanted to go back to before the ACA, when so many didn’t have insurance. They underestimated the opposition to their plan. I think a lot of the upper middle class and upper class don’t believe the working class deserve healthcare. Certainly not if some of their taxes must be used to support it.
