'Open and Flagrant Corruption': Mulvaney Admits to Bankers He Only Met With Lobbyists Who Gave Him Cash

Jake Johnson, staff writer

Providing a remarkably blatant account of how Congress is basically "an extortion racket" and perhaps offering some insight into how he makes decisions at the CFPB, White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney told a gathering of bank executives on Tuesday that as a lawmaker he would only meet with lobbyists who gave him cash.

On the duct tape for the shower nozzle where “turbo-charge” has worn off, I shall replace it with “Mulvaney”.

I’m disgusted, but not surprised in the least, by this latest revelation of how deeply and matter-of-factly corrupt our government is. But who’s going to hear about it from corporate media? They’re on the take just like Mulvaney, and so are hardly likely to blow the whistle on themselves.

And what are the Democrats doing? Suing Russia.

The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the people rule.

". . . corporations have no consciences, no beliefs, no feelings, no thoughts, no desires. Corporations help structure and facilitate the activities of human beings, to be sure, and their 'personhood' often serves as a useful legal fiction. But they are not themselves members of “We the People” by whom and for whom our Constitution was established."

~Supreme Court Justice Stevens, January 2010

America is not for sale. It has already been sold.
To celebrate, Americans can buy cheap, plastic trinkets of historical symbology, made in China, to exhibit large quantities of ebullient, false patriotism. Yup, America is ‘grate agin’.

The Trump administration will stand out in history as one of the most corrupt. He has brought with him a government of, by and for the corporations. Also of, by and for the rich. He is the richest president in our history and his cabinet is the richest of all cabinets in our history. His cabinet and administration are also one of the most corrupt in history.

Here is the problem in 2018. Republicans control both houses of congress and the White House, and they are corrupt to the hard core. But it is not as simple as that because the alternative party, the Democrats, seem to be asking themselves why the Republicans won and decided they had to become more Republicanish to win future elections. Instead of doing what needs to be done, providing a clear alternative to the corruption of the Republicans who have sold/ pimped themselves out to the rich, super rich and huge corporations. Trump and this generation of Republicans are the most sexist and racist in modern history, yet it feels like the nation has not been fully alienated with what is happening in Washington DC…

Will the 2018 congressional elections follow the same pattern as the 2016 election which had the lowest voter turn out in 70 years? Are we so apathetic about voting that we can’t bring ourselves out of our apathetic stupor trance. So much so that in the 2020 presidential election we will re elect Trump?

No surprise to progressives and nothing new, but what we need is a solution to this rampant extortion racket of the corruption called " lobbyists" which is an euphemism for corrupt, bribery.

He’s from South Carolina. What can we expect? The confederacy rises again. With dear old General Beauregard Sessions in the attorney general’s office we cannot expect that these “gentlemen” will be troubled too much.

What an embarrassment that lawsuit is, and how utterly tone deaf.

#12

Isn’t this taxation without representation? or a form of slavery?

See, the problem is that both of these parties are thoroughly corrupt. The Democrats want to make this coming election about corruption, and who is delivering that message? Pelosi (who brags about how much bribes she can rake in from big money donors), Chuck Schumer (nothing needs to be said), Tom Perez (ditto) and the like. A report just came out about how the DNC is giving more money to another rotten organization associated with Hillary Clinton than they are any of their state parties, still, as unpopular as she is and despite her disastrous 2016 campaign. Many Democrats vote on legislation like the recent bank deregulation bill that directly benefits them, but not their constituents, they are often guilty of profiting off of their access to information and power in regards to investments, and Barney Frank, and the rest of the consultant parasite class, argues that they must take in bribes because the Republicans will and how else can you beat them by taking in bribes too? Yeah, the Republicans are horribly corrupt, it’s written into their DNA, but the Democrats aren’t any better. They just aren’t, a good portion of them are simply not as obvious and up front as Mulvaney. I think the parasitic consultant class calls them “the adults in the room”, or some other bullshit.

#14

Obviously, every single member of the Trump Cabinet minus a couple of them is a scum bag criminal who actually belongs in jail.

#15

The whole system of capitalism is corrupt. Fines and slaps on the wrist for the corrupt banks and organizations and jail time for you and me. How can you have a free market when so few control and own everything. How do you compete with the various cartels that control whole sectors of the economy? Ten companies control 90% of the food you eat, for example.

#16

Those people in the Democratic Party who are truly progressive need to abandon it for a new party unless they can figure out a way to gain control of it which is doubtful.

#17

Actually I was looking for a clip of this scumbag today at work and was surprised to find a msnbc one about it. HOWEVER, Joe Scarborough went into this spiel about how, when he was in Congress, he’d have his staffers weed through the bribery to find only the trusted ones. Like it’s just how D.C. operates. Like, who cares? The ol shrug and partake of corruption

#18

Capitalism even with Smith and Ricardo model will fail we the people because big dogs will always eat the little dogs and they’ll get too big for the government to regulate.

#19

This bribery is the American way of govt. . Only the sheeple get zero representation.

#20

Yes, they play golf and ride in their limos together

Capitalistic murderous hogs have sold out this nations common equality loving people.
