“This is a moment for the world to come together to save lives and fight a common threat,”

That would be nice. And in an ideal world it would happen.

Though it seems the U.S. won’t be a part of it. No in fact the U.S. will likely be the main cause of further infections and re-infections.

WHO Director to world leaders:

“History will judge us on how we responded to the poorest communities in their darkest hour.”

Trump and US CEO’s to US workers:

“Get back to work slackers!!”

This is leadership. But history/karma shall judge us not only on how we respond to the “least” of us in a crisis, but in the everyday. We humans in some times and places have created societies that are broadly egalitarian, in which no one is made an outcast, in which sharing is the norm. We still do this in places in this time. We may be undergoing a shift in consciousness towards the value of taking care of all–for the benefit of all.

U.N. WHO chief:

“5. we’re building the ship as we sail and it’s critical that we continue to share learnings and innovations so that we can improve surveillance, prevention, and treatment. And ensure equitable access for the poorest to all R&D breakthroughs”

Equitable access would have to mean providing the breakthroughs to all, regardless of ability to pay, and without any checking into who has the money and who doesn’t getting in the way. That is, free to all who need it. If the rich can access something with no problem, simply because they can pay for it, then equity here means everyone has the same ease of access, which can only be accomplished, amid financial inequality, by making it free.

If you are in lockdown for COVID-19, I truly hope you come out on the other side of this, well and whole. The vast majority of you will survive, of course, but the well and whole dimension of it will be hard to measure. A missing piece here, a missing piece there, pretty soon a lots missing and erased.
" I’ve seen pretty people disappear like smoke. Friends will arrive, friends will disappear…"
Happy Traum
For the likes of a Donald Trump. There’s a lot of good people who deserve better than this. You’ve heard of " all hands on deck " moments? Well, I’d suggest an " all hands on dick " moment, if I thought it would make one iota of a difference.
It wouldn’t.

“This is a moment for the world to come together to save lives and fight a common threat,”

Hahahahahaha…oh boy whoever wrote this after-school-special naive shit did miss everything in school from history to philosophy to biology and everything in between. Cute though… this type of belief in the good in human kind despite all evidence to the contrary.

the WHO is right but many won’t listen. And there is still an element more interested in blame and conspiracies (China, Iran, Israel, the US and the media being favorite targets) that can get in the way. Interesting that the spread is mainly to the relatively rich countries where more people can afford to travel to and from so maybe some countries are somewhat protected by their poverty!

“darkest communities, in their POOREST hour…” There, fixed it for them? By the time NYC proudly announces it’s peak; media, business & our Tag-team Kleptocracy all agree; “SHEESH, that was a close one… everybody back to your work-station, HIGH FIVE!” It will be all the kids with asthma, all the folks un-treated for (fracking) cancers, COPD and immune disorders (extractive agriculture) in Black, Latino & rural White communities, LONG devastated by horrific air, water and food toxins, low paid, app or 1099 gigs & pill-mill usury. Just in time to see DNC celebrate another certain victory.
