Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka in response to new overtime rules unveiled by the Department of Labor:
Looks good on paper but when is the reality of overtime pay set to begin? Will only full-time workers (not temps) be covered? Does "overtime pay" mean ACTUAL pay or comp time for overtime worked (you get one hour of comp time for two hours of overtime worked, e.g.)? So many corporate employers skirt the overtime requirement by hiring full time "temporary" employees who also have no medical/dental/vision or retirement coverage/accrual. I am very skeptical about celebrating before seeing how this plays out.
