Palestinians: 70 Years of Suffering

Palestinians: 70 Years of Suffering

Eric Margolis

To date, 62 Palestinians have been shot dead in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli army and over 5,500 wounded by gunfire. Their crime: protesting the loss of their ancestral homes in the West Bank.

Here was an example of Gandhi-style passive resistance that failed. Israeli sniper teams just fired at will at the protesters, some of who were throwing rocks or firing sling shots. High concentration tear gas was dumped by drones on the demonstrators. Israel claimed it was killing ‘terrorists.’

This situation seems to be hopeless but I would say the best thing Americans can do is get the Republicans out of office. While the Democrats certainly don’t guarantee a solution and it would seem only an agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians could ever bring peace, the Republicans do actually support some of the worst of what the Likud party does and stands for. Obama at least called for a halt of settlement building which put some distance between himself and the Likud Party. He also sent John Kerry as Secretary of State to the region to work on an agreement. The Republican Party now has a base that includes large numbers of voters who support theocracy as well authoritarianism and white nationalism. The Republican Party represents everything liberal democracies have been opposed to for many decades. Rather than trying to bring the country together under the US Constitution the Republican Party has found it can win elections by supporting the exact opposite, dividing the country and supporting authoritarian rule.

70 years of Destructive Decision Making by the parties of the Duopoly.

Creating the state of Israel in Palestine is only one.

I would question a couple of statements by Margolis. He claims Israel annexed the West Bank after the 1967 war. It is my understanding that Israel occupied the West Bank which was then part of Jordan and continues to occupy the West Bank. There has been no annexation as far as I know. He also claims half of Jordan’s people are Palestinian refugees. I don’t believe that is still true. When Jordan gave up it claim to the West Back it lost most of the Palestinian refugees who lived there. Jordan gave up its claim to the West Bank because the Jordanians in the country were afraid of being overwhelmed by the number of Palestinians. Israel itself has about a million and half Palestinians who are Israeli citizens. Since they cannot serve in the Israeli military they do not have full rights although they can vote and do have representatives serving in the Knesset. He also seems to question the Middle Eastern origin of Jews from eastern European. While certainly there have been many mixed marriages and religious conversions the movement of Jews from the Middle East to Europe is well documented historically. Questioning the link between Jews in Europe and their origin in the Middle East appears to be a type of denial. It is not known for certain what the origins of the Palestinians are. It has been speculated that they were originally the Philistines. I don’t believe this can be documented but it would appear to be a reasonable guess.

Oh please. They have put settlements in the west bank with with close to 500000 people. They have stolen land from Palestinians to build these settlements. If they have not “annexed” the land how can they claim thise settlers have a legal right to the same?

#6

International law says the settlements are illegal and so does the US. I don’t know the reasoning of the Israels courts on how they can claim the settlements are legal but settlements in occupied territory are illegal. To me they are illegal and should not be regarded as legal.

#7

Here’s the difference that anyone but an apparatchik of the Democratic Party could see.

Republicans: We love what you’re doing! How much money do you need to do it? Here you go!

Democrats: We don’t like what you’re doing. You say you need that much money? Well, here it is, but you better stop what you’re doing, understand? (wink, wink)

#8

Israel wins if either the Democrats or the Republicans win. Both parties have done tremendous damage to human rights in the Middle East and therefore neither party has credibility with the 99%.

#9

The key is a “Single State Solution” in which Arabs, Christians and Jews all Iive together in peace and harmony as they do in more developed democracies. Israeli racism, inherited from the times of Nazi ideology, has convinced most Jews, who are secular for the most part, that Jews are all part of a single ‘tribe’ (descendants of Abraham) and are fortunate to be part of a superior race. For example, quite often I have received mass emails espousing such nonsense by pointing out that Einstein, Marx, Freud and Christ were all Jews and therefore this was proof positive of their superior standing in society. This has reinforced this ‘superior race’ notion to the point that ethnic cleansing of all Arabs appeals to far too many Israelis and their inherent hatred of their neighbours prevents them from viewing any Palestinians as equals. Bigotry is always an easier choice for close minded individuals and until Israelis can learn to abandon their obsolete 20th century thinking, peace will never come.

These days the Dems at times don’t even do that much. Their corruption is on full display.

I am amazed, how people choose to twist the truth, as to who is causing the suffering to their own people. More importantly I (Israeli) can tell all of you first hand that I “lost” contact with several Palestinian FRIENDS, because they were ORDERED to leave Israel or their families will get hurt. The Palestinian leadership for the lack of a better word :PLO/HAMAS/HEZBOLLAH is corrupt. And all of you are choosing to ignore that, and the pain and killing they inflict to their own people. Here are some historical FACTS about the conflict, that I hope will provide allow you to get a better understanding. 10 Basic Facts about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

For the sake of clarity, don’t neglect to consider these fundamental facts.

by David A. Harris

In all the discussion about this decades-long conflict and the quest for a solution, some basic facts are too often missing, neglected, downplayed, or skewed.

Not only does this do a disservice to history, but it also contributes to prolonging the conflict by perpetuating false assumptions and mistaken notions.

Consider:

Fact #1: There could have been a two-state solution as early as 1947. That’s precisely what the UN Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP) proposed, recognizing the presence of two peoples – and two nationalisms – in a territory governed temporarily by the United Kingdom. And the UN General Assembly decisively endorsed the UNSCOP proposal. The Jewish side pragmatically accepted the plan, but the Arab world categorically rejected it.

Fact #2: When Israel declared independence on May 14, 1948, it extended the hand of friendship to its Arab neighbors, as clearly evidenced by its founding documents and statements. That offer, too, was spurned. Instead, five Arab armies declared war on the fledgling Jewish state, seeking its total destruction. Despite vastly outnumbering the Jews and possessing superior military arsenals, they failed in their quest.

Fact #3: Until 1967, the eastern part of Jerusalem and the entire West Bank were in the hands of Jordan, not Israel. Had the Arab world wished, an independent Palestinian state, with its capital in Jerusalem, could have been established at any time. Not only did this not happen, but there is no record of it ever having been discussed. To the contrary, Jordan annexed the territory, seeking full and permanent control. It proceeded to treat Jerusalem as a backwater, while denying Jews any access to Jewish holy sites in the Old City and destroying the synagogues there. Meanwhile, Gaza was under Egyptian military rule. Again, there was no talk of sovereignty for the Palestinians there, either.

Fact #4: In May 1967, the Egyptian and Syrian governments repeatedly threatened to annihilate Israel, as these countries demanded that UN peacekeeping forces be withdrawn from the region. Moreover, Israeli shipping lanes to its southern port of Eilat were blocked, and Arab troops were deployed to front-line positions. The Six-Day War was the outcome, a war that Israel won. Coming into possession of the Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, Sinai Peninsula, West Bank, and eastern Jerusalem, Israel extended feelers to its Arab neighbors, via third parties, seeking a “land for peace” formula. The Arab response came back on September 1, 1967, from Khartoum, Sudan, where the Arab League nations were meeting. The message was unmistakable: “No peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, and no negotiations with Israel.” Yet another opportunity to end the conflict had come and gone.

Fact #5: In November 1977, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat broke with the Arab rejectionist consensus. He traveled to the Israeli capital of Jerusalem to meet with Israeli leaders and address Israel’s parliament and speak of peace. Two years later, underscoring the lengths to which Israel was prepared to go to end the conflict, a deal was reached, in which Israel – led, notably, by a right-wing government– yielded the vast Sinai Peninsula, with its strategic depth, oil deposits, settlements, and air bases, in exchange for the promise of a new era in relations with the Arab world’s leading country. In 1981, Sadat was slain by the Muslim Brotherhood for his alleged perfidy, but his legacy of peace with Israel, thankfully, has endured.

Fact #6: In September 1993, Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) reached an agreement, known as the Oslo Accords, offering hope for peace on that front as well, but eight months later, PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat confirmed the suspicions of many that he was not honest, when he was caught on tape in a Johannesburg mosque asserting that this agreement was nothing more than a temporary truce until final victory.
Fact #7: In 1994, Jordan’s King Hussein, following in the footsteps of Egyptian President Sadat, reached an agreement with Israel, again demonstrating Israel’s readiness for peace – and willingness to make territorial sacrifices when sincere Arab leaders come forward.

Fact #8: In 2000-1, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, leading a left-of-center government and supported by the Clinton administration, offered a groundbreaking two-state arrangement to Arafat, including a bold compromise on Jerusalem. Not only did the Palestinian leader reject the offer, but he shockingly told Clinton that Jews had never had any historical connection to Jerusalem, gave no counter-offer, and triggered a new wave of Palestinian violence that led to more than 1,000 Israeli fatalities (proportionately equivalent to 40,000 Americans).

Fact #9: In 2008, three years after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon unilaterally withdrew all Israeli soldiers and settlers from Gaza, only to see Hamas seize control and destroy another chance for coexistence, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert went even further than Barak in extending an olive branch to the Palestinian Authority. He offered a still more generous two-state proposal, but got no formal response from Mahmoud Abbas, Arafat’s successor. A Palestinian negotiator subsequently acknowledged in the media that the Israeli plan would have given his side the equivalent of 100 percent of the disputed lands under discussion.

Fact #10: At the request of the Obama administration, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to a ten-month freeze on settlement-building in 2010, as a good-faith gesture to lure the Palestinians back to the table. Regrettably, it failed. The Palestinians didn’t show up. Instead, they have continued to this day their strategy of incitement; attempts to bypass Israel – and face-to-face talks – by going to international organizations instead; denial of the age-old Jewish link to Jerusalem and, by extension, the region; and lifetime financial support for captured terrorists and the families of suicide bombers.

Isn’t it high time to draw some obvious conclusions from these facts, recognize the many lost opportunities to reach a settlement because of a consistent “no” from one side, and call on the Palestinians to start saying “yes” for a change?

The despicable claim of Israel being a democracy is laughable garbage - propaganda by the rascist ethnic cleansing entity! The zionist entity is an abomination of lies, theft by force, mass murders and destruction of civilian infrastructure, subversion by threats of nations, and a historical mythology based on supremacist religious claptrap!

“On April 29, Israel’s Interior Minister Aryeh Deri upheld the deportation of the four parliamentarians (Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC)), after Israel’s parliament passed a law in March granting the interior minister full power to revoke the Jerusalem residencies of Palestinians over allegations of “breaching allegiance” or “loyalty” to the Israeli state.” Really? That is the kind of crap the nazis did, but translates into what Israel now does every day!

“Palestinians risk losing Jerusalem ID over Israel loyalty law
Israel revoking residencies of Jerusalemites over ‘breach of loyalty’ is rendering them stateless, rights groups say.” The ethnic cleansing of Palestine by the zionist entity is a crime against humanity, defended by a psychosis of superiority nearly unmatched in history! As a threat to the entire world the aggressive, mental, racist entity is also nearly as dangerous to the world society as any previous regime or “religious” cult on earth!

The Antisemitism Gag

Good Jews out there should unite loudly in their condemnation of Jewish crimes (crimes committed by organized Jews to advance particularly Jewish interests), or say goodbye to Jewish privilege and impunity under their structured and carefully tendered gag of anitsemitism. Jews should be subject to the same rules and vulnerable to the same criticisms and actions as the rest of us.

“Facts”? BS! What you are pushing is Hasbara Handbook lies and propaganda masquerading as “fact”!

The “fact” is that Israel is a racist entity dedicated to empty Palestine by force - The Occupied Territories - remove or force-out the original Palestinian inhabitants to create ethnically cleansed territory to be for Jews only! the fact is that that MO and agenda has been the zionist intention since 1948 and before, admitted by past Israeli leaders.

The fact is the zionist entity has sabotaged any and all attempts to end The Occupation and establish a two-state solution with security and sovereignty for both people - but security and peace were not enough for right-wing Israel, not enough for the inherent racism in right-wing Israel, they wanted all of Palestine, “given them by god” and will allow nothing to alter their dreams of a “pure state” - much like other fascist entities throughout history…other racist entities that were smashed by history, one way or another! BDS!

Day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year, for generations the unbroken string of massive crimes against humanity by the Israeli state against the Palestinians people has been seen and documented by the world. The words ‘world leaders’ and ‘heroes’ don’t exist in the same universe. But world societies remember. The Israeli state will be known for the rest of human history by its vulgar crimes. That’s the rest of human history. And no amount of copy/pasting easily refutable lies from Little Red Book sounding propaganda manuals can ever change that.

And as Emphyrio so patently demonstrated information exposing Israeli lies and propaganda, including by its apologists, is readily available. Books have been written about it. I’ve written the following in the CD comments a couple of times prior, but the Palestinian story can’t be told enough.

In 1947 the UN presented a solution of dividing Palestine into roughly even portions for the Jewish state and for the Palestinians. The Palestinians were in a similar situations as the Algerians with the French. Neither, understandably, wanted to divide their homeland into two parts with foreign settlers. When the Palestinians rejected the plan, the Israelis concluded they were not bound to the plan either and decided they would take not only half of Palestine but an additional 30% as well.

Menachem Begin: “The UN(1947) Partition of Palestine is illegal. It will never be recognize. Eretz Israel will be restored to the people of Israel. All of it.”

Even before 1948 Israel determined that 80% of Palestine would be used for the Israeli state. (So much for honest cooperation. Something the Israeli leaders would repeat again and again over the decades when it came to peace negotiations and cease fire agreements). Of the remaining 20%, what’s called the West Bank today was prearranged to be annexed by Jordan as an agreement that Jordan wouldn’t attack the Jewish state. This arrangement with Jordan was kept under wraps by Israel so it could maintain the false claim that its existence was under imminent threat. Another Holocaust. The remaining part, Gaza, had a considerable Palestinian population but which was assumed by Israeli leaders to eventually be part of Egypt, even prior to the Egyptian occupation of it.

In the 80% of Palestine that the Israelis mapped out for themselves, there were 660, 000 Jews and 900,000 Palestinians. In March 1948, a decision was made to expel as many Palestinians from that 80% of Palestine as they could. The known numbers as of the present range from 750,000 to 800,000. That’s greater than the present size of Denver or Boston or Seattle. This is why from 1948 onward, there has been hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees. And of course, no Israeli refugees. The lying Israeli propaganda stories about the Arabs broadcasting to their populations to leave and expect to return after the Zionists were removed, were created to explain the vast refugee movement. That lie has been exposed by Israeli historian Ilan Pappé and researched by Israeli journalist Benny Morris. (Morris went to England and used British archives which kept a record of every broadcast during that period).

The indigenous people lived there for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. When the ‘war’ was over, dozens of massacres had taken place, not the single one the Israeli officials said. 11 towns and some 500 villages were destroyed. Land, property, homes, of which the Palestinians owned with documents as proof, careers…all destroyed or stopped. Massacres were committed to ‘encourage’ the population to leave. The Israelis had committees to choose the best land, all planned. Said Moshe Dayan: “There is not one single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population. “

Writing to his son in 1937, David Ben Gurion wrote in part:
“We will expel the Arabs and take their place. In each attack a decisive blow should be struck resulting in the destruction of homes and the expulsion of the population.”

Talking to the General Staff in May 1948, dear benign, benevolent, Ben-Gurion stated: “We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of all Arab Population.”

Aggressions happened during the whole period of the British Mandate of Palestine (Mandatory Palestine, 1920-1948). The British keep good records. Here are some examples:

June 30, 1924. According to Israeli journalists Shlomo Nakdimon and ShaulMayzlish, Dutch Jew Jacob Israël de Haan was assassinated by Avraham Tehomi on the orders of Haganah leader Yitzhak Ben-Zvi for his anti-Zionist political activities and contacts with Arab leaders.

1948 September 17th UN Ambassador Count Folke Bernadotte was murdered on the orders of Yitzhak Yezernitsky (the future Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Shamir), Nathan Friedmann (also called Natan Yellin-Mor) and Yisrael Eldad for daring to suggest that Christian and Arab refugees could return to their homes. The following day he was dead. In 1982 Israel issued a postage stamp commemorating the two that carried out this act of terrorism.

“A false memory was enlisted to legitimize its rule”. Moroslav Volf

Nuremberg called aggression the Supreme Crime. Those responsible for that aggression are responsible for everything that flows from that Supreme Crime. And now when generations later the victims maintain their protests the Israeli courts ‘legalize’ their murder. This all goes into the memory banks of world history.

One more thing. Your Fiction#8, which your Little Red Book didn’t identify as the Taba Summit, came amazingly close to forming an actual agreement. Your propaganda lie gets exposed when Zbigniew Brzezinski appeared on the Good Morning Joe show in December 2008 and which got uploaded to Youtube. Getting your propaganda shot down on a MSNBC infotainment show is about as lame as it gets for a crimes against humanity apologist and liar.

Thank You eyewitness, for the history and the video clip!

Scarborough was/is such an ignorant asshole! “Big” Brzezinski slapped his arrogant ass down in great style…too bad the shallow idiot didn’t even bother to listen or care…

Israeli bigotry and racism is exported to the US especially as well as elsewhere. “Training” police, border patrol, and other “security forces” to treat unarmed civilians as “enemy”, to beat and/or kill them, as they do Palestinians in the Occupied Territories!

Durham, NC was the first US city to ban such inherently racist-based police training in/by Israel!

Programs of/for the subversion of nations by Israel includes political propaganda, and military “co-operation” that is a threat to all nations where Israeli forces “train” their police to kill and abuse civilians, demonstrators, and anyone deemed in opposition or a “threat”! The police culture of racism and violence is represented by the Border Patrol murder of unarmed 20 year old Guatemalan, Claudia Patricia Gomez Gonzalez, shot in her head, only days ago, and countless other examples!.
