I wonder how they’ll convince people the tax bill is great when three months later, we can see for ourselves that we’re paying more, not less.
Well, I did not say it was going to be easy and there are failures, and will be more failures, all along the way. But I still perceive the left efforts to take over the Democratic Party as “giving up” far more easily than the hard-right did, which reached their prominence today only through more than 50 years of steady organizing, with failures along the way, going back the the totally crushed Goldwater campaign in 1964.
Now, to be sure, organizing on the hard-right, is far easier because they are not challenging the capitalist economic syatem like the left is. But surely, it is still easier to take over an existing organization than start a new one from scratch - as the disarray among the Greens in the US, and very limited successes in other countries (where they are not really a left party) has shown.
You’re still talking about special interest groups, not individuals. If what you say is right, the conclusion I draw is instead of trying to be active in a local chapter of the Democratic party–become active in a special interest group that the Dems are afraid might bail on them. But the tricky part of that is any group that MIGHT pressure the Dems is going to get the response: “Ha! You got nowhere else to go!” We’ve already seen that.
along with this i feel that people should be grateful to pay taxes, the ones who have more should be happy to pay more as they live in a land where they are allowed such privilege. i have always said everyone is a democrat, partaking of the special programs that help folks out, until they make their own and turn republican
There’s more to justice than you seem to think. Without justice; life on Earth will be put in a tax free secret bank account with zero balance.
Ayn Rand acolyte and stunted adolescent, Paul Ryan only sees government as a route to the Koch Bros. teat.
Ryan and Sean Hannity should have a “Who’s the biggest knob?” competition. Really hard to pick a loser in that one.
Evangelicals were not a special interest group. You see them that way now, but they were (and are) normal people in the 1960s and 1970s who became organized around principles they saw the Republican Party drifting away from, right or wrong. Reagan’s governorship and the loss of seats by moderate Republicans in the California legislature were their first early victories. They did this a step at a time, in states throughout the country, imperfectly at times. Unlike the Left, they didn’t take their toys and leave when they experienced losses.
I think it’s you and others on this board that need to read history. The Democratic Party didn’t become the party of civil rights overnight—it changed. The Republican Party didn’t eschew progressivism overnight in the early twentieth century—it changed.
That is more than 500,000 saved per hour by the Koch pathological brothers vs. 0.0375 cents “gained” per hour by this secretary.
I am not sure about this as too many, as in the past, get “comfortable”. Of course having the right to unionize without obstacles, a living wage–whatever that means, and single payer will be much better.
Yeah, it would be worthwhile to eradicate Wisconsin from the Ryan plague even for a socialist as a step for breathing room. I will do so. Just did so.
And this is true also for building a true left party or co-alition as it happened in Europe. The problem that might get in the way is the fact that the US is a reactionary nation.
So, a left, assuming you mean socialists and communists and perhaps shades in between can take over a party, Democrats, that, frankly are also not challenging the capitalist system? The “progressives”, perhaps even the Greens, are they in the end actually challenging capitalism? If you can send financial support to bolster the campaign of a non corporate Democrat without actually joining the D’s why not do so?
The “dirt” on Ryan keeps accumulating. Soon there will be enough to bury the bastard under 6 feet of it!
I predict that he will remove his ideological blinders this spring, and realize that there’s NO WAY that he will win again. However, asshole that he is, what he’ll CLAIM is that he always discusses the matter of running again with his wife, and they make a joint decision on the matter–which will be FAKE NEWS!!!
…a joint decision made at church while they prayed about it. What a hypocrite!
We are in a reactionary period not really seen since the 1920s. We shouldn’t be surprised: the first black president was going to cause some of the populace angst. The thing is, if left of center Democrats start taking legislatures and seats in Congress, that will change the party and policy. That is what happened in California in the progressive era, it’s what happened in the mid-twentieth century regarding civil rights, and it’s what happened after the Republican Party was taken over by rightist ideology. What I see here at CD is just excuses to give up, step out of power, and ignore history, largely because progressives didn’t get what they wanted from Obama, much less Clinton. No nuance, just reaction—right here at CD.
Clueless, heartless oligarchs.
“No, I’m not. I jumped ahead. Climate change is of course real”
stated, an appointee denied for not being anti-global warming enough.
Trump worries the votes aren’t there, a White House official said.
Well, I’m getting older now. Could be sidetracked. Justice and the meaning of justice have been front burner topics since civilization began. Probly south of Egypt somewhere in deepest darkest Africa. Many civilizations have come and gone since then and justice has been debated in many languages.
Oligarchs may dispense justice in rubber courts as you alluded previously. I agree with you and only wish to stress that some form of meager justice administered by oligarchs enforcing austerity is not all there is to the subject of justice. This is backed up by modern writers such as Amartya Sen and Carl Sagan; No tyrant has ever conquered the little blue dot. Why? Justice is required to do that and justice cancels oligarchic empire.
I sent in $27. I’m an old carpenter and steel worker on drilling rigs and sent $27.
It’s total absurdity.
I know nobody will read this so FU, your tax scam and your poor horse you rode in on, apologies to the poor horse. The tax scam, the gift that keeps on talking from the poor and giving to the rich. Oh yeah, one of my inhalers costs almost $500 dollars if I didn’t have Medicare. I have to have two different ones I need to live, they cost me $5.00 total in '12, now they cost $30.00 each. Yeah keep taking…
