'Payout Time': Exxon Seeks Waiver from U.S. Sanctions to Drill in Russia

Nika Knight, staff writer

Exxon is applying for a waiver from the U.S. Treasury Department to bypass U.S. sanctions against Russia and resume offshore drilling in the Black Sea with the Russian oil company Rosneft, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Among those charged with deciding to grant the permit is Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the former CEO of Exxon who previously oversaw the company's Russia operations.

This is what the Trump administration is all about. It is not about our nation's business. It is about private commercial ventures and special interests getting their way - the masses of American people be damned.

Does Tillerson work for Exxon or the USA?

#3

Tillerson waves his hand in a jesture then states to the American people, "These aren't the droids you're looking for." The American people respond, "These aren't the droids we are looking for. Move along, move along."

#4

I wpuld say neither. I say he's working for Trump. Wonder how much Trump is invested in Exxon? Hmmm...

#5

Surprise, surprise...the kleptocrats (US and Russian) led by T-Rex, Trump, and Putin will soon check off yet another of the dirty deeds on their nefarious agenda...at the expense of the environment and in total defiance of maintaining positive, effective diplomatic relations with all other nations in the world. The demonic despot (DJT) is jumping for joy at destroying yet another of his predecessor's efforts to still the sleeping bear's empire-building through the use of: pointing guns, launching missiles, and rolling tanks (Crimea/Eastern Ukraine). Secy of Energy, Puerile Perry will sign off as will T-Rex and his very own U S Department of State (now his own personal tool to pour billion$$$ into the Exxon-Mobil coffers thus ballooning the assets in his "blind trust" to atmospheric heights.)

It's only about the money at the expense of all life.

#6

Of course it's a bad idea. Note, though, this sentence from the article: "Exxon was previously granted a permit to bypass the sanctions in 2014." The same bad policymaking was taking place under Obama and would almost certainly have been taking place under Clinton. For some folks to pretend that this sort of corporate cronyism is simply a Republican problem is partisan opportunism.

#7

Sounds like someone is envious because Trump has accomplished something with his life and has millions of $$ to show for it.

#8

Looks like he works for Exxon.

#9

Right - as if they care.

#10

So this is just a continuation of what was stearted in 2014? So Obama was doing the same shit. I didn't notice Rachel Maddow mention that!

#11

Nonsense.

#12

He's a double agent, possibly a triple, if Russia is involved.
;-})

#13

Does Tillerson work for Exxon, or does USA work for Exxon?

In 2013 Exxon was in a partnership with Rosneft to explore for oil in the Kara Sea. Exxon invested millions in this partnership and it paid off with a big discovery there. Then came the Ukrainian crisis and the imposition of US sanctions on Russia. Exxon had to back out of the partnership, and Rosneft was left with the big discovery all to itself. The only party to benefit from the continued sanctions is Russia. Is this what we want? Exxon made its investment and got nothing in return, unless it gets the waiver.

#16

You could smell that coming from a mile away., smile away.

#17

More of us Russian "trolls" are showing up everywhere I look. Maybe more people are waking up to the fact that the US government lies, and that Russia isn't our enemy after all.

#18

Exxon works for Americans by putting gas into your cars at a price you can afford.

Dirty dealing is a prerequisite for being in the white house
Cheney and Halliburton
Obama and the banksters/penny pritzger
Heck Obama hired the Monsanto VP as his food czar who immediately protected gmo crops thus aiding Monsanto
And don't even bring up Eisenhower and the dulles brothers
The list goes on and on

A corrupt system produces corrupt politicians

The photo accompanying the article shows: T-Rex and Vlad either pre-, during, or post- mutual gratification . In any case, their exchange was obviously orgasmic as reflected in their smug, adoring faces.
