Sadly but very true. Thousands are living without a home. Very good article.

Well written article, reminds me of a cartoon that I saw that shows a picture of a homeless person flushing themselves down a toilet with the caption: “GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD”.

In a decent society, nobody would have to spend a single night without a home.
For more than half of my life I lived in just such a society and had never seen a homeless person. I encountered this phenomenon for the first time here in the US - which is exponentially richer in material terms than my previous society.

when was the last time the corporate media even mentioned homelessness let alone reported on it to the extent that is needed- as Hannah Arendt wrote
in " The Origins of Totalitarianism"-

" Totalitarianism will not be satisfied to assert, in the face of contrary facts, that unemployment does not exist; it will abolish unemployment benefits as part of its propaganda…"

Real relief may take time and money to sort out.
We can start by not creating more homeless.
At birth some rights should be allotted. A Social Security number, passport, voter registration, selective service number, etc.
What do people hear when trying to get shelter. What’s your present address? Hmmm.
Where do you work.

We have gotten by living in a tiny house for decades. Most apartments have more living space than our house.
A government project is the only affordable way to go.
For profit is not an option.
High rise apartment housing for low and no income has to be a part of the remedy. The occupiers should have input of resources, work sharing for upkeep and repairs.
Free apartments for some that bring repair, rebuilding, and other maintenance skills.
This is not something new to many other countries that have little homelessness.

what?! you mean there’s no homeless fairies that just wander around tapping people at random to join the ranks of those free wheeling lucky duckies that don’t have to work any more?

what kind of sorcery is this?

I am 60 and have been homeless in L.A. for almost 5 years. I alternate between staying in hotel rooms and staying in my car. Homelessness is government criminal negligence, because homeless people pay taxes for a reason!
