I hardly think Putin should be a person to be admired (former KGB agent) especially considering his strong support for Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko which says a lot about his motives. Just because the dims used him as a foil for their loss doesn’t mean we shouldn’t consider this “lifetime” despot as another evil fool running (ruining) the world.
My main point: I’ve had it up to here with US Amnesians who have all these strong opinions about other peoples’ tyrants! Attend to the mote in your own eye, I’d say.
One of the big problems here: warmongering smears about people like Putin. I honestly never know what to believe, but I’m certain that much of what we US Amnesians hear about Putin is utter bullshit. Of course it is. How many times do you have to hear the needle dropped on the same cold-war record?
Other peoples’ tyrants are none of our business.
Sorry, but that kind of thinking is myopic. If you have “it up to here” with opinions, why don’t you sign off and take a long walk.
You don’t sense anything warmongering about demonization of world leaders?
You’ve got this big thing in your own eye, and accuse me of myopia. Go figure!
You seem to think, if US Amnesians were confined to minding their own freaking business, there’d be nothing to talk about. You seem to think like an imperialist.
Many of our “world leaders” need to be demonized, not just our own.
Your attack mode is obnoxious especially for one who hogs so much of the comment sec tion here - kind of a turn off for me as one who supports this sight.
Attack mode? You call the concept of US Amnesians showing enough humanity to leave other countries alone “myopic” – I say that finding of myopia is an imperialist finding, clearly emerging from the preconception that every country in the world is our business because we are Empire.
I think the above constitutes something to talk about. But because such a discussion comes too close to a nerve somewhere, you call it obnoxious attack mode. I initiated this whole subthread in defense of another poster here, timebr, who was stupidly attacked as a Putin pawn – too ugly for the Commons, imho. 'Nuff said.
To call the RNC fascist without calling the DNC fascist when they are both parties of the American Empire seems wrong.
100% agree. The only difference that I can see is that the RNC is overtly fascist and the DNC is covertly fascist.
Precisely my thoughts.
When I read the title of this article, I was almost certain it was about the 20 years of organized crimes in Afghanistan (or Iraq, or Vietnam, or Korea, or Latin America, or…) by the duopoly. Fascists and Nazis only lasted for a decade or so. And no, they did not have 800+ military bases around the planet . Although just like here, most of its people thought of themselves as exceptional and as the chosen.
“In the 1936 presidential campaign, FDR called out the American Liberty lobby for trying to impose a fascist government that would merge corporate and state power.”
The “merging of corporate and state power” is the basic definition of fascism. Mussolini included brutal police forces and racist vigilante in the combination. Of these entities, big business calls the shots. Today’s Republican party leaders serve business interests ‘overtly’ while today’s Democratic party leaders serve business interests ‘covertly’ while they make empty promises to the working poor. The most powerful business interests in the USA are automobile, travel and transport-related industries. Their motto: Shut up and drive,
peons, consumers, wage-slaves and cannon fodder.

Ban guns by making them too expensive fir the working class. Provoking war with Japan. Japanese concentration camps as part if a land grabbing scheme. Deny reports of Stalin’s atrocities.

Followers of the antifa ideology use violence in support of their political goals. That is pretty much text book terrorism.
If Mussolini were to run in 2024, he’d probably romp it in sadly.
What do you call a state that brands people with anti fascist views as terrorists?
Hint, it starts with f.
Green’s hyperbole stems from the defeat of the corporate tool HRC. How dare voters choose an outsider of the beltway. We’ll fix him was their goal.
Antifa are more anti-racism than anti-fascism. The vandalism - more than violence - was directed at racist police brutality. In the case of Portland police, their antagonistic fight-provoking attitude worsened during the Trump era and under mayor Ted Wheeler who literally condones “good cop bad cop” actions no matter what he may say otherwise. Wheeler serves the ruling class who are ruining liberal cities to remake them more conservative; an example of Disaster Capitalism.
Those who believe reincarnation think it might not be
a coincidence that trump was born shortly after Mussolini died.
Well said…
Tommy Douglas on Fascism.
Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege.
Except for that final sentence, you were on point. However, America did not become a Democracy until the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965. Essentially, it is a brand new Democracy in truth and in practice, and it is floundering.
We have not had 240 years of Democracy. And if we don’t speak the truth we won’t be able to correct the mistakes.
