Just like every bailout since the day Reagan saved Chrysler, this next aid scheme will be just another goddamn enormous giveaway of public money to private corporations and the wealthiest of individuals.
At the end of the day, whether it’s Covid, hurricane Katrina, or 9/11, the powers that be in USA are only interested in saving one thing.

Telling, that the Progressives have to keep make the demands like this. Apparently the
‘New Republican’ wing of the old Democratic Party needs to be reminded.

We need a Party of the Left. We currently just do not have that.

So, the capitalist game plan in US America is to pit one group against another–rob Paul to pay Peter, then Peter to pay Paul–just so the wealthy don’t have to pay taxes. This nation has a disease worse than coronavirus.

We are seeing why the true left (communists, socialists) was systematically destroyed in this country. Time we resuscitate the Left. We are many, they are few.

We actually do have several left leaning parties, the Greens for one such, but the duopoly jealously guards its dominance of the political here in an increasingly fascist America.
Corporations run this nation, make no mistake about that. It is no accident that election campaigns become increasingly expensive, an avergae senate race costs upwards of ten million dollars and the race for the presidency runs at or near a billion!
This is a way to continue corporate run government which, by definition, is fascism.

As a lifelong lelftist, active in community politics and with a long history of opposing our creeping fascism, I can attest to the fact, unfortunate as it is, that the left always seems to self destruct, becoming nothing more that a circular firing squad far too often.
We saw the right , and the former Tea Party, now the Freedom Caucus, was a perfect example of this, put minor differences aside to make a difference and advance their ideology. Now they , for all intents and purposes , run the GOP.

At the same time the left remains mired in inflexible political purity, shunning allies and potential help from candidates who do not subscribe one hundred percent to these peoples visions. Thus dooming themselves to making no progress.

Any Democrat who votes in favor of a payroll tax cut, is simply ‘trying out’ for the new and improved GOP.

Well we need to change that–It has been pointed out that while the left talked revolution the right carried it out.

At This Trump-Favored Charity, Financial Reporting Is Questionable and Insiders Are Cashing In

Charlie Kirk’s nonprofit Turning Point USA has made misleading financial claims and gets its “independent” audits from its co-founder Bill Montgomery’s former business associate. It has enriched several of its top leaders as it pushes Trump’s message.

The tax-exempt charity says its mission is to educate “students about the importance of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and capitalism.”

Our Kleptocratic Duopoly has a single unremitting objective: redistribution, upwards! Take all OUR equity, homes, labor, intellectual property… and feed us all to the circling sharks. No need for subtrafuge: they control monopoly media, they legislate us into usurious indentured peonage. They set us on each other, so WE now pay half the working class to kill our half. Their revolution WAS prodigiously televised, we all know our roles; gnawing out the rotting carcass of empire.

401k, Interstates, WalMart, White flight, Amazon, red-lining & Imperialism… “we all sell out, every day; might as well be on the winning team?”

The picture of the DP so-called leadership of Pelosi and Schumer actually fighting for anything just does not compute; they will not fight, but will blow smoke up our ass and right-quick fold like a house of cards to reveal the complicit stooges they have been for years!

The entire DP hierarchy are complicit frauds, “centrist” corporatists who serve much the same interests and entities as R’Cons only without the obvious mental illness and depraved indifference and treason - they play a very old game of “leading” while being entrenched corporate whores and slavish cheerleaders for the MICC war-machine theft from civilian society - all while raking-in campaign-contribution bribes from the PTB in America - wealth and power has totally corrupted and made a mockery of representative government Of, By and FOR the people!

This “election” is a pathetic kabuki fraud but must be played and won to remove the clear and present existential threats of the malignant and treasonous trump regime. The next immediate goal is to form a new representative party absent the corruption and sellouts of the current DP charade “third way” and DLC private corporate club the DP has become - taken over by big-money, corrupt politicians, liars, and betrayals, exemplified by the Clintons, Obama, the Congressional machine, lobbyists and big-money.

If we do not form a real “third way” by a new party that truly represents Independent, progressive, left, 99% and what was once “American values” we will continue to be manipulated and owned by the status quo, corruption, fraud and betrayals.

The reality is that the Republicans are only interested in printing money to hand out to themselves. Oh, they prattle a story about the debt but talk is cheap. The reality is that they don’t mind running up the debt at all as long as regular people get the short end of the stick and they walk away with the loot.

The Republican strategy for decades has been to reduce taxes on themselves, run up the debt with handouts for themselves, privatize federal programs to take the money for themselves, and leave the middle and lower classes with the tax bill to pay it back.

STOP CALLING IT A “PAYROLL TAX CUT.” THAT IS WHAT THE RIGHT WING CALLS IT TO CONCEAL ITS NATURE. THE “PAYROLL TAX” IS THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF REVENUE FOR SOCIAL SECURITY, AND FOR ALL PRACTICAL PURPOSES THE ONLY SOURCE. A CUT TO THE “PAYROLL TAX” IS A CUTE TO SOCIAL SECURITY, JUST ONE MORE OF THE RUSES THE RIGHT WING HAS BEEN USING TO ELIMINATE SOCIAL SECURITY SINCE BEFORE IT BEGAN.

Damn! Somebody who actually understands the situation, including the existence of third parties! Part of the problem is that only a few dozen people know they exist. The other part is that the ones who do know and who voted for them through several election cycles in efforts to raise their visibility and clout don’t dare to vote for them this year. I have an astute and well-informed friend who swears he will not vote for Biden, not because he considers Trump the lesser evil but because the chances of anything but more of the same we’ve had for decades under a Biden presidency is slim to none.

“The plan put forth by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans will do nothing but double down on the failed policies that put corporate profits before workers and families.”

Do Scummer and Peloser have the guts between them to say NO!? The results of that plan would likely be worse in the not-very-long run than no bill at all.

might be two of the funniest words ever married in a sentence.

They are not failed policies from their standpoint. The policies are designed to steal everything from the citizens and give it all to their corporate owners. And of course all the politicians get to take their cut. And it is not just the big bad Republicans doing it all. The corporate Democrats are standing shoulder to shoulder with their Republican pals.

Yes, of course, the democrats should pretend to be the opposition party they’re supposed to be.
Q: So when are payroll tax cuts appropriate? A: When Obama/democrats make 'em.

When Biden wins (by default (preselected option) obviously), brace yourselves, it’ll be Obama/Clinton redux. I can still hear all the howling from the center/left of center democrats about GW Bush’s policies, yet when Obama continued or added to them–nary a peep from democrats.

Since it appears Trump’s gonna lose, the rabid republicans have another 5+ months to go for broke, and they’ll be breaking the record this time.

The idea that the Republicans would pay back revenue they take from the Social Security fund is insane.

They want to kill off Social Security and have wanted to for a long time. Now that they have a true grifter in the Oval Office who has a proven track record of stiffing the little guy, they’ll charge ahead with it while people are struggling literally to stay alive.

Welcome to the CD Commons Rick. This is a constantly debated topic here. For me the issue is that we need to form coalitions based on a progressive agenda rather than one based on the agenda of others. Medicare for all is a good example. Jayapal and Sanders have put forward great legislation that progressive people support and all are invited to join that coalition. The current unemployment benefits issue discussed in this article is an example in the other direction. Progressives support a robust program of benefits for all who lost their jobs due to the pandemic but we are being asked to sign on to the results of whatever negotiations establishment Democrats and Republicans come up with (which will surely include some very obnoxious provisions). Progressive people should completely reject the so-called compromise arising from that type of process - and importantly should completely reject that type of process that continues to plague us.

Meanwhile - regarding third party alternatives I will reprint my list of five serious Green candidates that I hope people here will support and work for:
